Finalsequel Blog

Top 10 of 2006

As thier is only a few days left in 2006, I figured I'd better hurry and post my top 10 list. So here it is:

Final Sequel's Top 10 of 2006

10. Brothers and Sisters- A real good dramedy along the lines of Desperate Houswives . Its not a great show. Sometimes it becomes to wrapped up in the political side of the stories, and the dialouge can be boring at time. its also not the type of show where you think throughout the week, What's going to happen next week?? But it gets better with each episode.

9. Kyle XY- This was the surprise hit of the summer in my book. I strongly believe that if a show is scifi based and not on SciFi its chances of surviving its first season, let alone getting picked up are slim to none. As this was on ABC Family, I thought it would be pulled before episode 6. The show had just the right mix of angsty teenage themes and mystery of who Kyle really is. The season wrapped up real nice with a cliffhanger that has fans longing for season 2.

8. The 4400

7. Avatar: The Last Airbender- This is probably the finest example of American animation ever. But its not the look that draws people into this cartoon adventure, its the story. While the main plot is old and has been used many times, the way the story is told is totally different. This season saw Aang befriend the ' The Blind Bandit' Toph, master earthbending, search for his lifelong friend Appa, and uncover a conspiracy in the Earth Kingdom. Not what you expect from a show Nickelodeon, eh?

6. Heroes- I've praised this show before in my blog and what can I say that hasn't already been said? Sure it sounds alot like X-Men and like another one of my top 10 The 4400. But once again look at how the story is told. Where as the 4400 focuses more on the bigger picture, Heroes focuses more on each character. Developing the characters so far beyond what they were in the pilot before bringing them together. And the curves they throw. One thing I love about this show, is the way its shot. It gives off such a dark and ominous mood, that just goes so well with the show.

5. Desperate Houswives

4. Toonami Jetstream- Okay so technically this isn't a show, but I had to put Jetstream in the Top 10. This video streaming site from Cartoon Netowork's Toonami block offers three animes that had never before been shown in the U.S. as well as classic Toonami favorites. I love Prince of Tennis, oddly enough as well as Mar. Hikaru No Go is a hit and miss. And it brought back great shows like Samurai Jack and Megas XLR.

3. Commander in Chief- Okay this show came out in the fall of '05 and was unjustly cancelled this May, but I loved it. This was a great drama that had a chance to be the next West Wing if not better, if it had only been run right. When you go through three different showrunners in under a year you know somethings wrong. Along with the fact that ABC didn't know what they had and did a horrible marketing job, lead to this shows early demise.

2. Battlestar Galactica- BSG is more of a soap opera/military drama than a SF show. Sure you have your space ships and alien races but alot of the show is grounded in today's world. The biggest wepon the fleet has are nukes, no futuristic bomb. Infantry troops use M-16s and other current firearms, not lasers. BSG is a gritty show not intended for children The show has many alagories in it to what is going in the world today. From the War on Terrorism and the War in Iraq to the political, religous, and social problems of our world.

1. 24- How could this not be my number one show. 24 keeps me on the edge of my seat for 24 weeks. Season 5 was the best yet. The plot was drasticaly different. For the first part of the season Jack was actually trying to stop terrorists from using WMDs on Russia. It then changed gears and had Jack trying to uncover a plot that lead to the highest realms on Washington, D.C. And ended with a wonderful cliffhanger, well it was cliffhanger at the time.

Honorable Mentions: Weeds, Eureka, Bleach, Doctor Who, IGPX, Family Guy, American Dad!, Invasion, Psych, The Boondocks, and Veronica Mars.

So there it is. My top 10 of 2006. Hopefully 2007 can measure up!

Why are Parents so Hardheaded?

No I am not refrencing Will Smith, I am just asking a question. I am in a book club( and before anyone goes and says 'how nerdy' let me make this clear. I am in the book club becuase they offer hard to find older books for cheap.) And I forgot to go to the website and decline the featured selectins, and they got sent out. Now it was two books I did not want and wasn't going to pay $30 for. So, today as my dad was going out to run some errands I asked to mail them back for me and I handed him $5 to cover shipping. He handed the money back and said it was no big deal. We then got into an argument becuase I wanted to pay for it. I mean most parents would kill if their kids offered to pay. It was me who screwed up and I want to fix it.  ARGHHH!

The newest bug going around is giving me a HUGE headache. I'll explain.

The cast listings for the Pirates guide have always bothered me. They looked like this:

Joe Smith- voice of character A

I wanted them to look like this:

Joe Smith- Character A

I figured this would take 5 minutes to change. It took 3 submissions and 2 days. The new bug only accepts whatever it wants to. The first submission deleted half of the 9 person cast but none of my corrections even though the confirmation page said it would go through. I tried a second time and got 4 cast members uploaded. At this point it was well past midnight so I logged off. Finally today I was able to get the rest uploaded. But I still have to fix it at the episode level and according to the cast form there, none of my changes have gone through, though the main pages shows it. This has already been reported in the Tech-Support forum though as Christmas approaches and the staff will be gone until probably after New Years, this won't get fixed til 2007.

Speaking of which this will probably be my last blog before Christmas so I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Or whatever holiday you celebrate!

Absent

I would first like to pass along my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of James Kim. RIP James.

Its been almsot a month since I've been visible on the site. And once again its becuase of a medical problem though this one seems to be more severe than I thought it was. As I mentioned in my last blog I was having some discomfort in my lower back and left leg. By the end of November, the pain had gotten so bad I was unable to sleep. I was in constant pain and finally gave into my parents demands to see a doctor. After some preliminary test he concluded it was one of two things: A herneated disc or a pinched nerve. He was leaning more towards a herniated disc becuase at the time I still had feeling in my left leg. He put me on a two week steroid treatment to "heal" my back. And I don't see where as its helped at all.

True, I am able to actuallly sit up now and get out of bed. But I am still in excruating pain(the only way I am able to type this is after taking a mucsle relaxer, which only eases the pain slightly). It hurts to sit, stand, walk, lay down pretty much to do anything hurts. And what is really worrying me is the numbness that has now crept over my left leg. Its not a good feeling to all of a sudden feel as if your left leg has just vanished.

Becuase of this getting on the computer has been real low on the totem pole. I've logged on a few times and checked my queue(I was surprised when a few days ago I actually had a three subs waiting for me) but the 5 minutes that takes has all I've been able to do. I am do back at the doctors on Monday if the pain and numbness are still there, a thought that frightens me. I hate doctors.

Progress?

I've been away from the site most of this week. I've had alot of personel things going on and a mysterious problem with my legs where it hurts to sit for more than 20 minutes. It seems to be case of not enough exercise, as I've been alot less active since November started(we've been pelted with rain storm after rain storm so getting out of the house has been a pretty much a no go). I swear it seems I always come down with wierd problems.

But could the site be headed towards progress on the bug front? Yesterday afternoon a mysterious bug popped up where gguides were reverting to thier status of two or three weeks ago. I lost over 100 points on the Pirates guide, some people were losing recently aquired editorships/TU status. But the STAFF made two huge steps.

1) One thing I've always considered to be a problem battling bugs here is how when something happens and it is brought up in the Tech-support board, their is no acknowledgment from the staff whatsoever. And if someone does pop by its days into the problem. Today, missribs actually stopped by the thread and said they we're looking into it.

2) The STAFF didn't let this problem fester over the weekend. They stepped in and fixed it this afternoon. This is huge becuase it shows they actually can fix the problems quick and we also will avoid the chaos that would have ensued over the weekend.

But this leads me to wonder will this be one time thing?? When the next problem pops up will we be back to the 'dark ages'? I hope not. Who knows this could be a sign of things to come. *knock on wood*

Tired Thursday

The elections are finally over. I don't mind politics and I follow them on a semi-regular basis, but all the political ads were starting to bother me. The race here in Tennessee was really bad. It was considered a very important race so both canidates stepped it up. And becuase Harold Ford Jr.(the Democratic canidate who lost to Republican Bob Corker) is from Memphis the political ads ran like crazy. And everyday there each canidate came out with a new attack ad.  As I turned 18 back in September I could have voted this year but I missed the 'cut off date' this year to be able and vote in thie election.

Last night's episode of Jericho was great. It answered of a few a questions, such as the Governor surviving and thier being atleast some form of federal goverment still intact as the squad of soldiers was sent out by Homeland Security and that FEMA helped evacuate some survivors. It also sets up a nice episode next week.

In other TV news I've officially given up on The Nine. This was one of my most anticipated shows, but I quickly changed my mind. The pilot started off well enough but the second episode was horrible. I didn't feel any sympathy for any of the characters, and was only midly intrested in Tim Daly's character as well as Kim Raver's. The concept seemed intresting at first, but at closer look its just another drama along the lines of Weeds and Desperate Houswives.

Basketball Experience

This blog could also be called "Grizzlies Vs Knicks" or "How I almost I got thrown out of FedExForum".

Anyway, my dad won two free tickets to the Grizlies' season opener against the NY Knicks. So yesterday we left two hours early got to downtown Memphis and hour and half before game time, cruised around Tower Records before heading to the arena. This was our first time "inside" the 'Forum. And I gotta say the arena is as nice as any in the NBA. It has all the features you'd expect in a basketball arena, but with a Memphis flair. We found our seats and the game started. It was great right off the bat. Mike Miller nailed three 3-pointers in the first quarter and was on fire. Hakim Warrick and Rudy Gay were dominating the glass. At the end of the first quarter it was Grizz:25 Knicks: 20. It looked like we were on our way to starting the season 1-0.

Then the second quarter started, and the Knicks dominated.  Halftime flew by and the third and fourth quarter were amazing. The Grizz were down by 18 or 19 points and they cam back and forced the game into overtime. Then double overtime, and finally a third overtime. We started the third overtime like the first quarter. We were up by four before the Knicks cut it to 1.

With five seconds left, Quentin Richardson drives down the lane. Mike Miller slide into position to take the charge. Q-Rich hits him and the ref blows it. He calls a blocking foul!! They show the replay and the arean goes nuts. They issued some sorta of sideline warning becuase a fan or player stepped to far on to the court. Q-Rich hits both free throws and the Knicks go on to win 118-117.

So I'm mad at the call. I mad that the 10 Knicks' fans sitting behind us are celebrating. We head out and are in the stair well when this idiot behind us goes: "LET'S GO KNICKS!!" No one says anything, but it pisses me off. These guys come into our city, our arena win on a phantom call, and then our going to taunt us in our arena. And no one said anything!! It was like he was testing to see if Memphis fans could stand up to him. so he says it again: "LET'S GO KNICKS!!!" No one says anything. So I turn around and say: "Yeah. Enjoy your one victory this season!!"

He mummbles something and his friend grabs him and says "let it go, let it go". I half wanted him to say something back, or come at me. Why I don't know. I guess I just wanted to prove that Memphis could hang with big boys(not the Knicks are big boys).

Next UP is Charlotte. We should win that one.

Short Halloween Blog

So Halloween has been pretty boring so far. I was planning to go out tonight, but a 24 hour bug has kept me in. I haven't had any trick-or-treaters, but I already knew I wouldn't. And so far I have gotten a single prank phone call . The noyl thing I have to look forward to is raiding my little siblings candy bags for any Sweet Tarts they get tonight. They already know I'll be taking all their Sweet Tarts has they've seen me fight someone in public over a tube of that delicious candy !

I am so loving this tab browsing on Internet Explorer 7! I've been submitting alot of cast updates to the Pirates guide and its so easy to switch back and forth between sources and here. The Subs are also helping me reach my goal of hitting level 13 by mid week. I went up 4% yesterday after adding crew to two episodes. I finished adding the cast for the rest of the miniseries(or first 5 episodes) so we'll see how far it goes up tommorrow.

No Longer Thinking

I downloaded IE 7 last night, with no problems, thank God! Its not the hassle of having to download it and then if it doesn't work having to go back and delete it that worried me. (I actaully like that, becuase normally in that process I learn something new about the inner workings of PC) But its the problem of having every single person in my family yell at me when the the thing doesn't work right, and even as I am fixing it having people still yell at me. And then keep yelling even after I've fixed it.

But finally Microsoft has gotten something right. The layout is less cluttered than before and all the buttons have been given a fresh coat paint. But the most important thing and biggest improvement is the tab browsing. This is so useful and was much need to us non Firefox users. It will especially help here. Normally when I'm submitting things I like to have the source site open as well to make sure I am getting my stuff straight. It alot easier to click the tab button and not open another IE.

Well I had hoped to get to Level 13 by Monday or Tuesday but obviously I'm not. Hopefully I'll get there by mid week, I have some work to do on the Pirates guide and there is another editorless guide I've been submitting to that has alot of cast work needed to be done.  However, we'll see how this works out as the site has been real buggy this past couple of weeks. And there is a new bug going around. So far this one hasn't affected me.

Thinking about IE7

I am debating myself right now on wether to download  Internet Explorer 7 or to what a few more weeks. Its just the new features look so awesome, mainly the tab browsing(finally Microsoft came to thier senses!). But with everything I download I have to consider it. Maybe its becuase I am very impatient but nothing ever seems to install right. I tried to download a new version AIM one time, and it froze the computer. I tried to download Firefox once. It downloaded okay, except the darn thing wouldn't work! I couldn't go to any website, nothing. I just got a white screen.(Becuase of this I've basically ruled out trying Firefox 2.0)

I really want the new features and security. But at the same time, I worry- is this going to be another Firefox dibacle? Will it work once its installed? Will I have to go back and remove it?

Where's My Flyswatter?

Tv.com is overrun with bugs again. Maybe overrun is the wrong word since there are only two I know of and are affecting me.

The first one, I am proud to say I discovered it, or at the least was the first to report it, is the one where your favorite show breakdown is way out of whack. Currently as I type this I have two icons for show breakdown. One is the Drama King and the other is News/Documentary. I shouldn't have either one. What I should have are Action/Adventure and Animation. Also the list of my favorite shows is way messed up.  I have NO game shows, talk shows, or news/documentary in my favorite shows. Occasionaly it will change so that you have the emblems you are suppose to have but the show breakdown will totally be wrong.

The other one it where the CPs aren't running. You get a level update and the submissions will even be accepted but you won't get your CPs. Friday I added two actors to the Pirates guide who appeared in three episodes. I should've gotten 24 CPs. I got zero.

Today is Sunday so you know there will be no word from the Staff today, but hopefully there will be some tommorrow.
