Flawie Blog

Now I have two.

I just won a competition over at SuperPLAY.se. The community & Blog site of the Swedish gaming magazine SuperPLAY. One of the editors there had a competition in his blog that could win you a copy of Mass Effect. I already have Mass Effect but I thought I would apply for the contest anyway just for fun and voila. Now I have 2 copies of Mass Effect. I guess that can be kinda handy if you accidently break one. I already have two copies of Gears of War so why not continue the habit. Anyway, the competition was as simple as motivating why YOU were worthy of the game. I wrote a motivation including loads of really deep and hardcore World of Warcraft references since I know the guy is a huge WoW fan. It worked. Me and four other members won ourselves copies of the game. If I didnt have total brainfailure a while back I easily could havewon another contest held over there to. Kinda nice when the people at a magazine put so much time into the community site.

Insomnia

Ok, so I pretty much havent slept at all for almost 2 days now because I have this insane wierd virus in my stomach causing extreme throatburn. Imagine swallowing a razorblade and repeat it over and over. Its burning from the pit of my stomach all the way up to the mouth so bad I cant get 1 second of sleep. So now Im sitting here and ranting about it like someone actually cares. I just watched the whole CES coverage and the latest On The Spot in a row. Dont really know what to watch next. Maybe ill go back and watch an old OTS or something while desperately trying to dampen the pain thats burning in my digest system. I´ll probably play some more Naruto as well soon, still enjoying that game alot. I also decided to check out some more footage of "Pirates of the Burning Sea". When not sleeping for so long you get the wierdest ideas. Like looking for a worthy replacement for World of Warcraft. I´m a huuge fan of pirates and everything surrounding pirates so I finally decided to REALLY look into this game. It looks kinda neat, i gotta admit. The thought of playing in a massive online pirate world makes me giggle. My own ship, my own pirate avatar, a huge Carribean to roam around in. I might end up giving this game a chance. But then again, i decided to give LoTR-Online a chance to when that came out and I cant say I have played alot of it since...

Anyways, Im gonna go make a sandwich or 2 and whine to the first person that wakes up for work about how bad I´m feeling.

Rise of a Ninja - Gut Reactions

Naruto - Rise of a Ninja arrived in the mail today. First impressions: Mindblowingly awesome. For me, as a REALLY big fan of the first 100 - 150 episodes of the Anime Im completely blown away by reliving the first 80 of them in this spectacular manner. And theres more than enough explaining going on that even those who has never even seen 1 episode of the Anime will be able to pick this up and enjoy it. I wouldnt be surprised if many of you out there go and watch the whole series after picking this one up. I guess Naruto has gotten a kind of "Anime is for Nerds and idiots" stamp on it. But really, you dont have to be a wannabee Japanese to enjoy this one. The rich world, the awesome sense of detail, the amazing artwork, the extremely loveable characters and the superb soundtrack. I have just gotten past Kakashis test in the beginning of the story. The rest of the time I have spent exploring the backalleys and rooftops of Konoha village and I´m completely in love with the game. The only thing I can complain about is some minor technical issues with some stuttering sound, sluggish menus and some hitches in the otherwise supersmooth framerate.

Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas

Ok. So I just watched this movie for like the 18th time or something. Its one of my alltime fav. movies ever for sure. It never ever ever gets boring. I can watch this movie over and over for 12 hours straight without getting bored.Depp and Del Toro are EXCELLENT. They both make the roles of their lives. If ANYONE havent seeen this one yet. DO IT! JUST DO IT! Dont wait another day. It gets better and better for everytime I see it.The optimal state to watch it in is "average intoxication". Just the right amount of beer to enjoy iteven more than when you´re completely sobershould be in your system and it should ALWAYS be seen with someone else that has the same sense of humour as you do. When both of those conditions are fulfilled its unstoppable! Im goin to watch it again before going to bed later tonight!

And heres some of the 10000 awesome quotes that can be picked from this movie:

"Raoul Duke: Look, there's two women **** a polar bear!
Dr. Gonzo: Don't tell me these things. Not now man. "

"Dr. Gonzo: Oh my god... there's someone at the door. There's someone at the door!
[yelling]
Dr. Gonzo: Ahh! Ahh! I'm innocent! It was Duke! It was Duke!
[inaudible noises]
Dr. Gonzo: Ahh! Ahh! Don't put that thing on me! Aaah! Aaah! Aaah!
[hangs up]
Dr. Gonzo: Well, that's the last we should be hearing from Lucy man. She's probably stuffing herself down the incinerator about now. You know what we need? We need some opium. "

"Raoul Duke: You can turn your back on a person, but, never turn your back on a drug. Especially when it's waving a razor-sharp hunting knife in your eye. "

"Raoul Duke: There was madness in any direction, at any hour. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. "

"Raoul Duke: With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know. "

The awesome dedication that is Flagship Studios

Ever since "Hellgate: London" launched, Flagship has been hard at work to bring out new patches and fixes to make the very unstable game easier to play. People like me who kinda expected the world from this game was kind of dissappointed on how many technical issues that were still in the game when it launched. Still, I have been playing the game on and off sinceit was releasedand I´m still playing it. So I´m living through all the changes that Flagship Studios makes to the game and I gotta say I´m very impressed. I have already noticed alot of improvements on the game over the last month and today they released their biggest patch yet addressing tons of the memory issues that made the game so unstable. I have to applaud Flagship for REALLY putting in an effort this first month and admitting that their game was kind of broken when they launched it. They have been working like mad to fix this and they continue to show their appriciation for the support and feedback they get from us players. On top of stability issues the game had serious issues with the game UI and the way that the online portion were handled. This has ALSO been adressed now and its now easy to find a group to quest with and its way easier to chat with players, get into a guild and important stuff like that.I´m going to copy and paste some of the patchnotes from the latest patch that just went live!:

Memory Usage

  • Memory manager rewritten for better performance and stability.
  • Fixed a UI-related memory leak.
  • Fixed a clothing and armor texture-related memory issue.

User Interface

  • New Looking For Group interface that allows players to more easily find each other for creating specific groups.
  • Reorganized the De-modificator, Augmentrex, and Nanoforge interfaces to appear in the left-hand panel area.
  • Added an auto-transparency feature to the chat window.

Thats just some of the fixes thats in the latest patch. And Flagship continues to stress the point that they KEEP ON working to make the game even better. I have no doubts anymore. Give Flagship a couple of months or maybe half a year and Hellgate will actually be as good as it could have been from the beginning, and then, theres no stopping this game anymore. I´m so glad this game is climbing up from the hole it was released in since I have been enjoying it alot despite of all the bugs and obstacles. This can actually turn out to be the "new" Diablo that it was meant to be. Good times! If they keep up this hard work I might have to go back and rethink my score of this game and raise it up to where it belongs without the glitches. Something I have never done before. Because, usually developers dosent put so much work into completely rewriting stuff in their game-engines to make them work better, they just blame people computers and goes off to grab another cup of coffee.

So I urge anyone who put this game down because it felt incomplete to pick it up again and have some faith in Flagship! I promise you the game is in MUCH better shape already.

The Happy New Year Post!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cant wait for the flood of 2008 Spring-games to start pouring in, with Burnout - Paradise as the first one for me. 2007 was one of the most awesome gamingyears in my life. I have never ever spent so much money on games as i did this year. The end of October up until now has been especially crazy. Read my Top 10 list a couple of posts below this one to find out the best the year had to offer.

Post-Christmas shopping

Went out and bought some Post-Christmas gifts for myself today to balance out all the clothes and bottles of Axe I got on Christmas eve.

Unreal Tournament III - PC, Transformers - DVD, Call of Duty 4 - PS3

Cant wait to see Transformers again even tho I would rather see it on BluRay. Someday this silly war will be over and I will buy it again on Bluray.
