HMMM...

What are the odds that this will be a $599 priced video card? Since it's the top model, that is likely to be the price. I'll pass on this one. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a video card to play games, it will be a Radeon HD 4870 X2.

I believe what he means is, how long is Crysis Warhead in terms of length from beginning till the end (when you beat it), as opposed to the length of Crysis from beginning to end.

I have to admit that reviews I'd read and high system requirements could have deterred me from downloading the demo and attempting to run Crysis. I didn't really expect much from it but since my 17" LCD only goes to 1280X1024 and I wanted smooth frame rates, I ran it at 1024X768 @ medium and was amazed that it ran smoothly. I don't personally need all the AA or Anniso. I only care about FPS. I will definitely be getting Crysis as well as Warhead. They are worth it.

I didn't get a Vista box for DX10. I got it because I wanted to tinker with Vista. Having been a long time DX9 gamer, when I started up the Crysis demo running at 1024X768 on medium, I was floored by the graphics. As a matter of fact, my character died multiple times due to my inability to focus on what I was supposed to be doing while marveling at the graphics. I tried the DX9 hack and couldn't get it to work on my system.

We all know that Microsoft is in bed with the hardware manufacturer's to sell systems, hardware, and their OS. Many of us didn't need to buy a new system every three years. XP was fine. Was there a specific conspiracy involving Crytek? Maybe so. Maybe not. Who can prove it? When I was looking for a new vid card to replace my integrated graphics solution, I was torn between saving money and getting a DX9 card or being able to play Crysis and getting a DX10 card. I opted for a low end DX10 card and it runs Crysis beautifully.

If you dual boot with Bootcamp, you can run your PC games natively on your Mac without having to re-buy games you already have. Then you'll have the best of both worlds on one system.

[QUOTE="ND4Life"]

I didn't mean to start a flame war with my post. Getting back to my original question - so is Half Life 2 pretty much what I'm looking for as far as depth of the modding community?

Ninja_Dog

It's not your fault. Flame wars are inevitable here

I would definatly get the orange box. All of those games have a dedicated community.

I would also get the original half life. (not halflife source) It has one of the most extensive mod community i have seen. Great mods for half life include Sven Co op and Natural Selection.

You may have talked me into re-installing the orginal Halflife... assuming it will run on Vista... That will be an interesting experiment....

True, he could've built or bought two systems for what he paid for his iMac, but there are also high end PC/Windows gamer systems from Alienware and others that cost much more ($5,000- $12,000), so it depends on what you want and what you are willing to spend. I have a Powerbook G4 that I use for creative work, but it plays the few games that matter to me on the Mac Platform, and plays them to my satisfaction. I mostly game on my Vista PC because of Orange Box, Crysis, F.E.A.R and racing games that are only for the PC. Either way, I'm having fun gaming. Will others agree with that approach? Maybe so. Maybe not. That isn't what matters. What matters is having fun my way. He's doing his thing his way.
