I can confirm that installation of a new video card did not cause Crysis to not run. Won't be upgrading the video card any time soon, but it will be interesting to see if a CPU upgrade in a couple of weeks causes Crysis to not run. We will see....

loco145,

Your GTX is at 55c on LOAD???!!! My Radeon HD3850 sat on 66C on stock clock on load and on 71C OC'd on load. Are you using an aftermarket cooler on your card?

If you are getting artifacting at 55c on load, it definitely isn't your card. CPU may have been damaged from the overclock.

I think most reviewers are too concerned with graphic detail. They tend to benchmark games at ridiculously high resolutions (1650X1050, 1900X1200, etc.) and at higher detail levels than they would if they were more concerned with game play and FPS. This type of game review approach assumes that the average reader spent $3,000 or more on their system (if they didn't build it themselves) or that most people are using all high end parts. I don't agree with that approach personally, but that's just me.

[QUOTE="Lidve"]

[QUOTE="ElectricNZ"]20 fps is horrible. 30 fps is a BARE minimum.Swiftstrike5

no solid 20 fps in crysis is somehow ok

It's impossible to hit anything that moves when the game is running at 20FPS. Sure, it's fine for running around looking a trees, but you start noticing lag as you try and track a target. I can't play a game with a FPS less than 30. I think the game is much more enjoyable at a higher fps then a higher graphics setting.

I run Crysis at 1024X768 on my 17" LCD with Palit Radeon HD 3850 SUPER, because I want the highest FPS possible with decent resolution. I don't bother with AA or AF on any game because eye candy doesn't mean anything to me. All I care about is FPS. That said, I'm averaging 34.9 FPS with everything on Medium. High Detail and max settings in Crysis only works if you have a high end video card, 19" -22" LCD, and a Quad Core CPU at 2.8Ghz or more, and my system is not high end like all of yours, but my baby gets the job done.

Crysis is one of my favorite games of all time. I love the graphics and game play. The only thing I don't like are the VTOL controls (ARRGHHH.. STUCK ON THAT PART!!! AAAAARGGG!!!!).

You seem to be pretty emotional in your dislike of the game. If it's that dissatisfying to you, sell it on Ebay and buy something else that you like. It's just a game man, not a religion or life or death choice. I'm just happy to be getting 34.9 FPS in Crysis after my video card upgrade. It's the one game out there that can bring systems and video cards to their knees.

Retail outlets prey on consumers who aren't knowledgable enough to know when they're getting ripped off. Retail employees in US stores are trained to "upsell" to customers more PC than they actually need in many cases, while telling half truths and outright lies about the hardware and software they need. The flip side of that is stories like this, where consumers are over charged for hardware that isn't enough to do what they need.

I had a similar dilemma recently with the same budgeted amount ($100). Couldn't get a 9600GT or 8800GT locally for anything under $150. Couldn't get either from Tiger Direct or New Egg without having to do the "mail in rebate dance". Settled on the Palit Radeon HD3850 SUPER for $89.99 with a $10.00 Mail in rebate (brings it to $79.99). That probably doesn't help you if you are stuck on having an NVidia card. I couldn't find a good deal for either NV cards.

I had a similar problem to this once and upon opening and inspecting the internals, found the video card wasn't seated all the way. Try that first. Less of a headache than disassembling/reassembling the entire system.

I do not believe that Crysis had anything to do with Halo in any way, be it the armor or dual weapon weilding. They aren't similar at all. I'm still playing the original Halo PC, Halo 2, as well as Crysis on a regular basis and find nothing remotely similar between them other than wearing powered armor and carrying two guns.

[QUOTE="JnWycliffe"]hmm... after getting a bit more information about the install limit (3 installs *period* - installing, then uninstalling, then reinstalling on the same computer will count as two!), i'm decidedly against ALL ea games and i will not be purchasing any of their games, no matter how good they are. *cries for crysis warhead, mirror's edge, and dragon age*pcgamer_07

Is that how it is? I was under the impression that you can install it on the same computer as many times but if you make any changes to the hardware or do something like reinstall the OS then you'll lose an activation.

I guess I'll find out if Crysis works after I install my Palit Radeon HD3850 SUPER this evening. If there are any problems, I will report them here.
