there are better games to spend your money. TF2 for examp.dnodari

We agree on that. AND there is no PC port issue with it.

My understanding is that Crytek has no plans to release a demo of Warhead. From what I've heard, everything about Warhead is better than Crysis, including the multiplayer. However, if you were getting 10-20FPS in Crysis with your 7900GS, you probably won't get much more than that in Warhead. I was getting 26 FPS on medium at 1024X768 in Crysis with a Sapphire Radeon HD 2600PRO and upgraded yesterday to a Palit Radeon HD 3850 SUPER and got 34.9FPS with the same rez on medium. You will likely have to upgrade your GPU card to get more FPS out of Warhead, unless someone else here can show that to be unessesary?

Many PC game developers are on the forefront of graphics and design technology with their games. Without the PC gaming industry there would be no technical advancement at all in other industries.foxhound_fox

Indeed. But what we are seeing now for the first time are games that actually push the hardware we have today. For years, we got by with 64mb Ram 128 bit cards and Pentium 4 CPU's. The games weren't pushing the hardware so we didn't upgrade hardware as much because we didn't have to. Now we have games like Crysis that can bring the hardware to it's knees if it isn't capable of handling it. I honestly think that in the case of Crysis, it's really the CPU that is the limiting factor because if you look at the specs, the CPU requirement is higher generation-wize then the GPU requirement.

The long and short of it is that hardware manufacturers need to sell hardware, PC companies need to sell PC's and the gaming industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. Even in these tough economic times, game companies are getting rich selling games. I havent heard any of them laying off any programmers in recent times.

Homemade GPU cooler that drops the load temp on a GTX280 to 55c under Load??? THAT my friend is quite fancy indeed. My card has a huge heatsink and fan and is a dual slot solution that isn't funnelling all of the heat out of the back, so I'd be interested in ideas on aftermarket coolers if you can PM me on that.

As for your NV drivers, you're not using beta drivers, are you? I always had issues when using beta drivers. Go to NVidia's website and check to see if there is a driver update. That could solve the problem. I always check every week for new drivers and just this week, ATI released a new version of Catalyst driver software. Check NV site to see if they did the same. These guys don't always announce driver updates.

What he said, plus join Steam if you can. There you can get Half Life2 Death Match for free. You want to get F.E.A.R Combat too (that is free as well). Steam has alot of games that can be played online and bought via digital download. There should be servers local to your area or not too far away. Also Grid and you may want to consider GTR Evolution (which includes Race 07). I love FPS and Racing games too. Those are my genre's. Welcome to online gaming. It is the most fun thing about games, in my opinion.

I will wait until I can get two 4850X2's and CrossfireX four of them... Of course I'll need a 1200 Watt PSU and a commercial grade braker hardwired to the new PC, along with some lottery winnings... LOL!!!!

[QUOTE="Fraustbite_0"]

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!

Ok,

Perhaps it is because I was playing Crysis at 6:30am with no coffee before having to get ready for work, but this is driving me nuts!! I forgot the name of the level, but I'm sure you Crysis players know what it is. After saving Helena and Prophet and getting them into the VTOL, we are in the VTOL flying and come under attack. The pilot takes a hit and unfortunately NOMAD now has to pilot the VTOL, which sucks because I'm not a Pilot. So I get killed the first time I try to pilot the VTOL and shoot at the same time. Second and third time up (Thank God, I quick-saved), I can barely get the thing moving. I press "W" and nothing happens. I have to hold "W" + "S" + "Left Shift" just to get it moving using the Keyboard. Get to the spot and have to switch to the Gamepadto aim and shoot and keep getting killed by the Alien monsters. Can anyone suggest a way to get through this cr@p??? I HATE PILOTING THE VTOL!! THE CONTROLS S##K!!!! Why can't one of the other guys fly the thing while I shoot??? That would be SOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suggestions on how to get through this part of the level??

tiiaan

Stop using a gamepad!

That level is called ascension, i don't think is that difficult, just don't let the fast aliens flank you by getting close to a valley wall so you can't readily be targeted from behind and then open up on the aliens when they come into sight. Avoid turning whenever possible, as the aliens move so much faster than you that you'll only end up whirling in place taking heavy damage from enemies that you can never catch up with.

At the end when you have to reach the carrier stay low, don't get into figths and use your afterburner as much as posible to get out of the island.

Hope that helps.

That definitely helps. You identified what has been getting me killed- letting them flank me and being unable to turn quickly enough to take them out. Thank you very much for your suggestions.

[QUOTE="Fraustbite_0"]I'm sorry, I know this is off topic but.... "hot lesbian assassin"??? Is there a game out there that includes this?? :o)JnWycliffe

aha. well, you can play as a hot lesbian in mass effect!

I seriously hope there is a demo of that I can download somewhere. Forget everything I ever said about not needing or wanting the "high rez eye candy with AA and AF". I think I just found a reason... :-D

Oh I know that. However, you actually get MORE FPS on Medium settings, especially with one 4870. Two in CrossfireX would be enough to make me give in and join the rest of you in the pretty world of high rez and max visuals. I don't need max settings on my low end hardware. My Radeon HD 3850 won't give me the kind of FSP that a 4870 will on Max anyway. Max is just eye candy. I don't need to see things die prettily. I just need them to die quickly so that I can move on and kill something else....

I hope that didn't sound "overly aggressive" or "anti-social" or something... but what can I say? I'm an FPS player. Big guns. Armor. Save the world and kill the Alien Monsters.
