Its one thing for a game to be highly successful, fantastic, and beloved by gamers and critics worldwide...but its another thing to be a phenomenon. A phenomenon, in this context, means a game that is known well enough that even casual gamers or even nongamers can recognize its name and face, games like halo, call of duty, and mario platformers. The funny thing is there are some amazing games that really deserve to be just as famous as halo or call of duty, maybe even more so...
i whipped up a list of five current gen franchises that are of incredible quality and ingenuity, yet can not be considered true phenomenons outside the forums of geeks haha
1. Mass Effect- a franchise reaking with quality, and the closest thing to watching the greatest star trek saga ever made, then put on steroids! Perfect for star wars and star trek junkies...If it gets a movie though im sure it will be more recognizable to people.
2. Uncharted- the video game equivalent of indiana jones, when displayed in HD it takes a second glance to even notice this incredible adreniline pumped adventure is actually a game. great for anyone who loves action! Once again, if it gets a movie it will have a popularity boost
3. Littlebigplanet- it might not make much sense for me to mention this, but honestly im surprised it hasnt hit harder home with casual gamers....i can really see casual gamers falling in love with this game in a heartbeat. Arguably one of the most creative franchise ever made, it is literally made for any kind of person. Plus its just adorable! Forgive its flaws
4. Assassins Creed- it is a very flawed franchise, but also a very original and fantastic one....What crowd is it for? Oddly enough i would say anyone who loves history or consipiracy theories, or anyone who watches Lost....It is a truly outstanding display of story telling and frustrating cliffhangers, and a beautiful action/adventure game in general. Its also a great display of how not every game has to be mindless.
5. Battlefield Bad Company- so heres the reality, Call of Duty is the phenomenon not battlefield..but im very surprised honestly....not about Call of Duty but rather how honestly Battlefield lacks a large online community. With Medal of Honor pretty much done or on a standstill Battlefield has proven it can take its place as one of the chief competitors in the world of military shooters, offering arguably one of the most realistic army experiences money can buy currently. Is it perfect, no...and it probably isnt a phenomenon because of how realistic it is...the average guy doesnt want that as much as they would rather have cod's more michael bay approach to war. Thats sad, because if more people gave it a try, theyd realize its at least as good, if not better, than cod.
so what do you think of these five? you think they deserve to be phenomenons...or if not tell of a favorite game of yours that you think really deserves extreme worldwide popularity
