I'm wondering which developers told Cerny they want to develop for this console. Development costs have been exploding (i.e., $300 million for Spider Man 2) and I just cannot envision any programmer saying "great, we have yet one more platform to develop for with higher specs which the customer expects us to reach to justify the purchase price of our game."
Who is this console for? Sony had to downgrade its hardware sell through forecast (which really pissed off their shareholders), not as many people are buying game consoles writ large, American spending habits have curtailed, developers want to control costs, so who is actually asking for this box to exist?
It must be posted that Colin Farrell is an underrated actor. He has so much range, he can and has played so many different roles, I've never seen a bad or checked out performance from him.
There must be something they're serving in the pubs in Ireland, they are turning out so many great actors just like England does.
The price of the Pro and selling everything a la carte (the disk drive, the stand) is evidence that Sony has no problem nickel and diming its customers.
So there is NO WAY IN HE|| that Sony will not charge for these upgrade to Pro spec patches. For those who already own these games, count on around $10 extra for the "privilege" of playing in native 4K60.
Sony can charge whatever they want, that is their inalienable right.
But no disk drive is a double insult. So if a user has a library of physical games, an extra $80 must be paid making the console $800 when including taxes.
Microsoft is an evil despicable corporation that should be broken up and operated in individual units. But two takeaways:
-I love how Sony hypocritically whined and moaned about reduced competition during Microsoft's acquisition of ABK but they are infamous for signing these competition harming exclusivity deals with third parties.
-Game Science lied. They told everyone that the Xbox port was under optimization knowing that they had signed an exclusivity deal with Sony and had no intention whatsoever of releasing the Xbox version for a long time.
I don’t see the logic or value proposition of the PS5 Pro.
The regular PS5 is not being used to its full potential (as evidenced by tons of Gen 9 games getting Gen 8 ports) plus according to experts, the leaked specs will not significantly improve game performance.
I see the benefit to Sony charging $600 for a box whose components will be cheaper to make but I don’t see any benefit to gamers.
This is a tacit admission from Phil that Microsoft corporate is finally tired of the relatively soft revenue that Xbox has historically posted. GamePass has not made a significant profit since its inception, Microsoft paid a ton for ABK and now they want to see that money recouped and the Xbox business grown.
Phil's future and maybe even the future of Xbox is on the line. Microsoft is not a charity, the execs and the shareholders are not nice patient people, they have made crystal clear that they want to see a significant margin increase in their video game business. The next few quarters will be very interesting to watch.
