I just used it for exploring the contents of BluRay discs since I still don't have one on my PC, and probably never will given I do most of my purchases for it digitally, not to mention how long it took for PC games to start using DVDs long after PS2/Xbox were using them standard.

I used it as a regular PC so email, work, etc.... Now I have a hub, dvd burner, keyboard and mouse with no computer.Velocity

How did you stand it? I was using Ubuntu 9.04 on mine with the majority of the smaller functions disabled, and I only had roughly 50mb of RAM free with Nautilus running. I couldn't multi-task unless I wanted to sit there and wait on the hard drive to churn about its virtual memory.

The lack of hardware acceleration under OtherOS is also a huge turn off, everything is so slow.

I purchased the GOTY edition back in early December, and over the course of 82 hours (the time it took me to 100% the trophies, including all DLC), I've had the game lock up at least 40 times, the majority of them occuring in outdoor areas.

When you have the game lock-up 3 times in a single afternoon sitting, it kills your spirit to continue playing.

Loading is at most 5 seconds for me, unless the screen sits there waiting for a trophy or two to trigger first, in which case it may be as long as 10 seconds.

What's wrong with using the PSeye as a mic? That's what I use, and it's much much better than having something jammed in your ear for hours of gameplay. I also have a pair of wireless headphones hooked up to my surround sound... using these with the PSeye is perfection. The only complaint I have with the PSeye is that when your game's sound gets picked up by the mic and causes an echo... but that's why I use the headphones:Djshaas

In most cases (not yours since you use headphones for your audio playback), unless your speakers are set to mute, anyone and everyone is going to hear your game audio echo back, and that includes the stuff we just said over our own mics to you. That's why people hate it when others use the Eye as their mic.

The PS3 supports a lot of standard USB devices, it's not hard for people to buy a USB headset for audio communications.

For me, I use the official Sony BT headset for the PS3, got it in the Socom pack. Headset is great, unfortunately the game was complete bollocks.

(especially at the time of its release where it was bug ridden and glitchy to all hell)

The PS3 installs bits and pieces of games not the entire game like the 360 does. These bits and pieces decrease load times and they are much smaller than the 360 games, since it is not the whole game. Some games require mandatory installs while some games like Modern Warfare 2 don't.

Uh, for every game that has a 4-5gb installation, with the exception of MGS4, the game is essentially installing the entire thing to the hard drive.

Only games I've seen that do otherwise are the Insomniac games (Resistance, Ratchet & Clank) that produce a smaller 500mb'ish file to use for cacheing common files into for speeding loads up on stuff that gets reused a lot. (like the character models and weapons), and inFamous, which starts a small file cache, which eventually builds up to a 1.3gb file.

It makes me wish PS3 has a dedicated cache in the HD like the 360 does, one space all the games have to share, rather than all of them thinking they're special and all deserve their own space on your HD, which is made more-so annoying on the PS3 for the fact that game patch data is typically bundled as a same file as the cache/install, meaning if you wanted to free some space, you'll have to reinstall as well as repatch the game you removed next time you go to play it.

(and god, some of the patches go in the 500mb+ range, largest I've seen being Eye of Judgement which literally has a 3.5gb patch)

[QUOTE="Adziboy"]Ahem, I don't condone the use of cheating, buh... COUGH Start a game on crushing and save then exit. In options, change the difficulty to hard, normal or easy and then enable the cheats you want. Come out of options, go back into options and turn crushing on. Go to chapter select and choose the first level. COUGH Yes. Cheats bad. :P

Uh, if the Crushing trophy is handled the same way it was in Uncharted 1, you won't get the Crushing trophy unless you start the game via the New Game option only. Chapter select will not work.

That's Gamestop for you.RK-Mara

^

You'd be surprised how often Gamestop 'jacks' the price on popular games to take advantage of the fact they'll still sell regardless, aside from those of us who are none the wiser and run to the Walmart next door to get it at its proper MSRP.

Could just get yourself a decent PC-compatible controller (or deal with the mess that is getting a DualShock3 running on Windows) and use a joy2key program such as xpadder to have the controller emulate mouse and keyboard input, and play your PC games from there.

Anyone know if it includes the Encore expansions or not? I'm wagering a no, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Just noticed it popped onto PSN today, and am tempted to grab it.

It has them.

Video extras are accessed via the XMB itself under the Video tab.
