@halvedlife: Not sure a lot of what you've said is true.
1. Not really constant upgrades. I am still running quite happily an i5 2500K @ 4.4Ghz from 2011, most recent upgrade was from a 7950 GPU to a 290 about a year or so ago. It wasn't an expensive build and yet I am able to run most games at high/ultra at 1440p. So not really constant upgrades to be honest.
2. You should check out GoG.com if you want to play old games without messing about with workarounds, also, without workarounds its hard to get your PS4 to play say, PS2 games or your Wii U to play N64 games etc. So your point doesn't really make much sense there.
3. Have you used Windows 10? It runs great, sorry if you've had bad experiences with Windows 10 but I have to say I have had no issues at all.
4. Hmm, I am pretty sure games on consoles have had their fair share of problems. I mean google "unity xbox graphic issues" and so forth. FO4 is also known to have stuttering and some FPS issues on consoles, sure nothing that is game breaking, but hardly faultless.
5. I personally hate the word "fanboy", I think fanboys of any platform should go do one. Okay we get it, you don't like this platform or you love that one, well don't buy the one you dislike! I am not a fan of the Xbox One, but I don't outright hate it. But I do own a PC, Wii U, PS4, Vita, 3DS and they aren't perfect but I like them for various reasons. I also agree that "Master Race" is a stupid thing, very pretentious to be honest.
I'm not saying all the above to just ignore criticism to one of the platforms I enjoy, but please do back it up with facts and not personal opinion, or at least state when it is personal opinion rather than present it as fact. That is all.
I think I owe most of my education thanks to games.
I learnt about cars and car mechanics thanks to Gran Turismo/Forza/Early NFS games
I've always wanted a Lotus Espirit due to playing Lotus Turbo Challenge on the Amiga as a child(unfortunately I own a Vauxhall Astra but in my mid-20's insurance on an Espirit v8 is huge)
I learnt the phonetic alphabet, navigation, radio systems etc with Flight Sim 95 through to FSX
I learnt a lot about history from Age of Empires/Crusader Kings/Total War
I've learnt a lot about philosophy and society from Bioshock/AC
and so forth.
Like all art forms, we can learn and evolve with the experiences we get with games. We educate ourselves and we alter our perception on the world around us.
@blackace Once of the issues I've had with my consoles is it dropping wireless connection all the time and not to mention all the cramp I had to go through when my Xbox stopped reading discs
@badman11226 Although it would be good for a game to get reviewed by a panel and then the scores averaged out. But a game to play through can take many hours, you cannot have Gamespot, a free website, be able to pay staff members their time on one game when many other games need to be reviewed too. Say a game is 10 hours long, quite short, 5 people = 50 hours worth of staff time on one game., the GS staff most likely only work around 40-45 hours per week each!
