Pretty sure John Carmack tried to go the character route with Rage and fell flat on his face. Not that it was a completely terrible game but rather after all the hype it ended up being an after thought rather than an epic masterpiece like DOOM 3.
Ninja Gaiden ain't easy fool and God of War tells us a lot about family relationships. The industry isn't focused on violence rather consumers are. I'd rather play Splatterhouse over Epic Mickey any day of the week.
It has CoD and Assassin's Creed on board. Plus Tecmo Koei has shown a lot of support. Is there really many other third party developers worth attracting at this point in the game? THQ is constantly in hot water and Sega isn't quite pumping out AAA blockbusters. EA and Square Enix are about all it's missing.
