EA's statement leads me to believe that Vince and Jason were indeed trying to do what Activision said since they refused to give them any ownership in the Modern Warfare franchise.
Let's even back up further to the source of Call of Duty's console success. Ironically it happens to be a game that used the Source engine, Counter-Strike. It successfully transferred the feel of the most popular online FPS into an experience tailored for a console. Then they took it one step further and added perks and custom classes, which are features the industry has embraced from Battlefield to Uncharted. As for Battlefield well they just took what was already successful on PC and brought it to consoles. You know for a guy(Steve Ellis) who makes video games for a living he sure doesn't quite understand anything about the market. Well maybe that's why his company failed and he had to resort to making mobile games.
Um and missing the big picture here how is Timesplitters 4 quirky and different? It's a sequel to a franchise that hasn't seen a sequel in almost 7 years. Timesplitters doesn't have the longevity of Duke Nukem and look how well that sold even with the critical smearing. Speaking of Gearbox games, did this guy forget that Borderlands existed? Doesn't get anymore quirky and different than that. It was also a smashing critical and commercial success. Then you have Deus Ex, Portal and Bioshock. So yeah just a big whiner trying to publish a game that at best has niche fanbase and would never be able to compete in a market with the like of aforementioned franchises. It would be another Syndicate.
Jesus is this guy DigitalPixelBit in disguise? Crysis 2 had to have made a profit. I'm pretty sure EA wouldn't go ahead with Crysis 3 if it hadn't. I mean I don't see them publishing Bulletstorm 2 or Shadows of the Damneder anytime soon.
And let's not forget that the DS flew off shelves and had no major release for like a goddamn year. So unless you were somehow excited to Super Mario 64 again(which sadly many were) then you were stuck with the demo for metroid prime. I remember getting Star Wars Episode 3 just to have SOMETHING to play on my DS. PSP had so many fun games though like Ridge Racer, Lumines, Twisted Metal, and even Need for Speed wasn't that bad. Speaking of PSP that's another reason Vita isn't selling because PSP is still getting new games and people already have a huge backlog like me lol. Vita will do better though moving forward and is far superior to 3DS although I don't think Miyamoto will ever admit that.
It has tons of games I'd like to play. The reason it isn't selling is it's high price point and I'm sure a lot of people are holding out for the inevitable redesign.
I bought Crysis 2 new when it was on sale for $39.99 and I bought Crysis off PSN for $19.99. The fact you can use a bow and arrow in 3 and I'll probably preorder. You're welcome Crytek. Now keep you ill-advised comments to yourself. Worry about making your games the best they can possibly be and used game sales will be a non-issue. Perhaps you have spent too much time under the shadow of EA lol.
From what I've played on Xperia Play, Vita is in no danger. I hate on screen controls and even though Play has done away with that there's still much to be desired. Age of Zombies is hands down my favorite play game. It was PSP mini of the year and on the Play not only does it look better, but they even went as far as to add new weapons and a nifty achievement system. PSP was definitely capable of creating a console experience albeit with a few compromises as this article points out. Was playing Resistance Retribution some today and damn is that a great game.
