Thank you guys. Do I need anything more than the R9 380 for 1080p gaming?

Note 3: I already have Windows 8 Pro so I can upgrade to 10.

Note 4: If I can lower the cost that would be AWESOME :-)

Hello! I haven't posted here in ages :-) 2 years ago I moved to live in Germany and I left my gaming PC back home. I survived on my 2008 HP laptop and my PS3 so far. It's time to change that.

Note 1: I already have a 24" monitor with HDMI/DVI and I have a 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. I don't need an optical drive.

Note 2: I am only doing 1080p gaming for the foreseeable future.

Processor: Intel Core i5 6600K

Motherboard: ASRock Z170 Extreme4

RAM: 16 GB DDR4-2666 Kingston HyperX Fury

CPU Cooler: Scythe Katana 4

Case: Fractal Design Define R4

PSU: Thermaltake Berlin 630W

GPU: XFX Radeon R9 380 4 GB Black Edition

So what do you think? I want this to be around the 900 euro mark as far as possible, but leaving headroom for future upgrades.

Thank you

I finally manned up and bought a Sapphire 7850 OC edition. WOW! Great card for the price, EGP 1550 which roughly equals USD 255.

Now, my 8800GT can finally rest in peace (although, literally, it's in pieces after the failed 2nd baking). It has served me well...

The thing is that I have recently bought a PS3 and now with this "compulsory" upgrade, I won't have the money for an overall upgrade (CPU, mobo, RAM, PSU and GPU). While I want future-proofing, I don't want to over do... Because I know it will be a big while before I do a total overhaul, so my new shiny GPU may need replacement then. But I don't want to get something out of the bottom of the barrel.

Thanks guys. The price difference is not that large between either. When you talk about bottlenecks, how much would that "practically" be? Considering that all the reviews I read were on a lot better CPUs that the one I have. Also, would I see any difference due to the fact that my motherboard is PCIe 16x 1.1. I am looking forward to play Deus Ex, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Serious Sam 3, Hard Reset, etc...

My 8800GT finally bit the dust. It happened before and I baked it and it came back, now I baked it again and some capacitators fell off. RIP, it served me well, and I was on borrowed time since the first failure. So, no complaints.

I am thinking of getting a 7870 or a 7850 to power my system (C2D E8400 @ 3.6 GHZ, 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM, P35 chipset with PCI-e 1.1).

I don't want to upgrade anything else. I have a 19" 1440x900 monitor, that I may upgrade down the line too. And sometime I play on a 42" 1080p TV.

What do you think?

Is your Skyrocket the size of a thumb drive, does it support KB/M, and cost a mere $25?

This.

I don't live in the US, but the budget will be something from $200 to 250. Is the 6950 worth it for my rig?
