I have the PC in my signature. It's pretty ancient. The thing is that I bought a socket 478 Intel processor, just when socket 775 was being released. The same goes for 8x AGP, that's why I only have 4x. I realized, the hard way, that the motherboard is everything. You have a future proof mobo, you have a future-proof PC.
Now, socket AM2 by AMD is around for a year, while socket 775 has been around for too long. I know that all Intel Core 2 Duo processors have better performance than AMD, but AMD processors are cheaper, and that AMD will strike back and launch something to counter the Core 2.
So, should I get a cheaper AM2 system and upgrade the processor alter on, or should I get an Intel system and I don't know for how much longer the 775 platform is going to last?
I know this sounds silly but I have been bitten once and I don't want to be bitten again! Thanks.
