How long will Intel support the Socket LGA 775 motherboards? I think they will release their next generation processors soon to counter AMD's upcoming quad core processors, does anyone know on what socket will they be based?

I know that AMD's socket AM2+ and AM3 processors will work on the current AM2 motherboards (but without some features, but they will still work).

If you are suspecting it's the RAM, download memtest86+ and burn the iso or a floppy if you still have one and check your RAM. You can find it here: http://www.memtest.org/

I will keep the 120 GB as it is, I will format the 160 as: 20 GB ext3 for Ubuntu + 1 GB swap, and the whole rest for games.

OK. Thanks.

Can you tell me how are you partitioning your 2 x 250 HDDs?

I have a 120 GB HDD that is partitioned as 20 GB for Windows and 100 GB for games (both NTFS), now I got a 160 GB HDD, I am keeping 20 GB of it for Ubuntu, that leaves 140, should I keep it as one, or divide it? and what does have to do with performance?

Let me put it that way, which will be the future-proof (if there is such a thing) system, Intel or AMD? Which company is going to change the current platform faster than the other. In terms of motherboards, I know that there are constants like PCIe 16x but what about 4 PCIe 16x slots, I saw them in some Intel mobos, but what about AMD? Also I saw some Intel mobos supporting 8 GB RAM, again what about AMD? So, it's 2 questions now!

So, should I go the Intel route or the AMD one?
