OK, that's really good to know! :D
Edit: About the PS3 not being dead yet I mean

One of the things that worries me is that I waited a long time before I got a new PS3. I did the same thing with the PSP but I didn't realize that the lifespan of the system was pretty much dead and that they had quit making new games for that system, so all the games I had gotten for the PSP were used and falling apart.
The PS3 still seems to come out with new games, but I've been hearing talks about the PS4 and I think when companies start talking about their next system that it's a sign of the beginning of the end. I'm really hoping that the PS3 has some good years left in it for me to enjoy the games for it before they quit making new games for favor of the PS4.
So is the PS3 still going to be around for awhile? I really hope so. :(
Well anyways what I'm really looking for is games that star only female characters. I have enough games that star just men or men and women, I just want to play as a badass heroine who can kick some butt without the help of a man. :P
You guys gave me some really good suggestions so I've decided on Heavenly Sword, Bayonetta, the Tomb Raider games, and Mirror's Edge. I probably won't be able to get all of them at once but whenever I get the chance to go to the mall I will be on the lookout for these games. Thanks guys. :)
[QUOTE="GreySun369"][QUOTE="LeonardHatred"]You could always just get a solid RPG and create a female character, theres much less likely to be an explicit gender hierarchy there.
Maybe try Heavenly Sword? That was made by a British company so you've got alot less of the whole impractically curvy woman doing backflips in a suggestive manner than you get with Japanese/American games.LeonardHatred
Like I said before I don't mind the over-sexualization of female characters in games, what I do mind is when they're not given as much importance to the game as the male characters. Like for example in Resident Evil 5 despite the fact that Sheva was a playable female character in the main game she was still pretty much treated as a secondary sidekick character, the game was mostly about Chris and his views on the events in the game. Plus you were forced to play as him first, Sheva has to be unlocked after beating the game once. or another good example is the issue I have with the playable female characters in Siren Blood Curse. They really suck compared to the male characters because not a single one gets to use any firearms and they can only pick up "small" melee weapons.
As for RPGs that let you create your own character, the problem I have with them is that the majority of them have a story that always seems to be written for a male protagonist. Fallout 3 is a good example of this.
No I registered your complaints with the roles women play in games being the real issue, I just merely meant theres no tongue in cheek element to Heavenly Sword which I found refreshing.Frankly it sounds like you should just buy ME/ME2 and play as FemShep.
Ah OK, I guess I misunderstood what you meant by that last post.
I will try Mass Effect some day because I heard it's a great game, I'll probably play as both male Shepherd and female Shepherd just to see how they play differently. :)
I like the blu-ray and free online. Blu ray means games don't come on multiple discs, and I have access to the entirety of the blu-ray library. Free online means I don't need to pay to browse the web, access my Netflix account, or play online games.

^ What this person said. Plus PS3 doesn't seem as likely to break on you as the 360 does.

Aha, feminist mother and father here and 3 older feminist sisters. In my house you appreciate women or die haha
And yes, exactly, and the latter 2 instances are pretty much 99% of gamings female characters. Problem is you never get genuinely proven writers penning computer games, its usually just some weak banter between gunfights.Pickings are even slimmer when it comes to playable female characters. FemShep and AC's Catwoman are the best recent examples I can think of.LeonardHatred
Well it seems like quality playable female characters are a rarity in video games these days. It's not just the sexual factor, but they always seem to make the females inferior to the males in some way like giving them less missions or weaker stats, or making it to where you have to beat the game as the male character first just to play as her. I don't really mind female characters being sexy, but I like for them to be just as tough and important to the story as the male characters. Anyways this is kind of the reason why I'm looking for games with female characters as the only leads, because in these games the women get to be the strongest fighters because they don't have a male character to compete against and their backgrounds gets explored more.

There's also Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City which my friend has been telling me about a lot. I'm not sure if I'll like it as much as the other Resident Evil games, but it seems to have a pretty good balance of male and female characters: 3 of each for the good team and bad teams. The female characters in this game don't really seem slutty, they actually look pretty badass. I like that Japanese chick from the evil team who's a scientist and likes to experiment on zombies and mutants while she's combating them.

No. No it reaaaaallly isnt.
I have to say I agree with others that have complained about the over-sexualisation of women in computer games. If they arent in distress, theyre slutty villains. And they aaaalll have impractically huge breastsMass Effect and Final Fantasy both contain some well written parts for women, but even the central characters are all men. And I say this all as a male myself, albeit raised in a family full of feminists hahaLeonardHatred
I was raised by a feminist single mother, so I know what you mean. :)
But honestly I can go both ways, I can appreciate either an overly-sexualized femme fatale or a down-to-earth plain jane tomboy. It just depends on how she's handled as a character. I don't like women that are thrown into a story without much purpose other than to serve as meaningless eye candy or to prove that the story isn't sexist.

[QUOTE="GreySun369"]I've heard of a game called Wet which seems to feature a female protagonist. What do you guys think of it? Is it any good?
