eh Tool, the band with the most pretentious fanbase, outside of maybe Radiohead, ever.Cloud_Insurance

agreed. but we're not all pretentious. I chock it up to Maynard... saw a vh1 interview (i believe), jeez, i couldn't be more disappointed in what a prick he was.

Aenima is by far their best album. If you listend to Tools early work its mainly just art rock, a bunch of sounds mixed in together. But when they released Aenima, thats when they really tied in all of their musics articulation and it turned into a great album.mexicangordo

That's probably the best summarization of what made Aenima so good, and how they changed from that album on.. But i personally think that they topped Aenima with Lateralus. And unfortunately, 10k days wasn't as good, although it was great, it seemed much more... superficial? it didn't feel like it had the depth that Aenima and Lateralus had.. I think myabe Maybard took too much from A Perfect Circle, albeit perhaps unintentionally..

no. it's possible that music could have gone in a different direction. but it doesn't matter to me. they didn't really effect the genre of music i like. dissonantblack

Assuming that the genre of music you like is Synth Rock (The Birthday Massacre), then i'd say the beatles heavily influenced your genre. You have to remember the domino effect. Synth rock is a subgenre of rock, which was a subgenre of rock and roll, which is what the beatles were. Just because it's newer, doesn't mean that it's somehow completely uninfluenced by all the genres that came before it.

I have to say that I agree for the most part. I disagree with quigly's definition of innovation. I feel like innovation is progression that everyone accepts as the new standard. there have been many "who discovered new ways of using technology" such as Peter Frampton, but they didn't progress their genre except in technological form.

The Beatles changed the way that people looked at music. Even their own early music wasn't that great. Where they shined was what they did after they exploded. They managed to evolve and progress and push the boundaries. They basically created the sound that we're used to hearing now.

If you don't believe me, listen to their "Ones" album (which consists almost entirely of their earlier works, if i'm not mistaken) then listen to the Cirque du Soleil remastered album "Love". The difference is enormous. Their music is still of the highest caliber, even decades later.

I can't take this poll cause i only have 2 tool songs- Undertow and 10,000 days- and i can't choose!!Shurekill_94

Wow O_o

That's quite a jump in the Tool timeline.. Interesting that you're a fan of both styles, I on the other hand have a hard time listening to a lot of their older material.

Just trying to see how many Tool fans are here, and among them, which is their favorite album.

Be original

Take a look at this person's drawing. It's the same thing, but looks better than yours.

Credit for the drawing above goes to *NgBoy from DeviantArt.com.

I don't take plagiarism lightly.

Shad0ki11

Just because he's using a reference to practice drawing doesn't mean he's plagairizing. If he were, he'd post the original and credit it to himself. Let him progress the way he chooses.

Using art as a reference and copying it are two completely seperate things.

He could have used that as reference, then made something on his own. Using artwork as reference =/= copying everything down to the very expression and angle of the character's face.

My point is, that he seems like he doesn't have a ton of experience under his belt to just freehand his own version. And if he is, then i apologize. But everyone has to start somewhere. Just like everyone goes through a tracing phase in elementary school, this is another logical step to learning how to create your own art.

Make her hate you. Tell her you knocked up some other chick. Tell her you would rather kiss your mom. Whatever it takes.

NearTheEnd

I wouldn't go that far. That could make her feel like all men in the future will betray her. Don't want to be the cause for what could be her future trust issues. Just be honest and sensitive.

I can't tell you guys how much everyone's advice means to me. I just tried and tried to love her and she waited and I can't do it. I feel like I'm going to be punished for doing this. I've never felt so guilty before in my entire life. Thanks so much guys.LikeHaterade

Young romances are always hard, but it builds character. Trust me, this is something you both should be going through, it's a necessary experience.

---edit---

just for clarity, i'm saying you should break up. I wouldn't want you to misconstrue my post to mean that you shouldnt.
