I bought a PS3.

First of all, I apologize for being away for such a long time. The reason for being absent was that I couldn't acess gamespot from my dad's computer. Don't know why, because IGN(I wonder if they'll ban this word?) worked fine.

Anyways, a lot of stuff has happened in my life for the past few weeks:

  • I travelled to the phillipines( which is where I am now).
  • I visited Hong Kong and Macau(both of which are semi-independent regions of China with their own currency and own laws but still belong to China)
  • I bought a PS3!! Yes, I did. Some people might be confused since I'm not a big PS3 fan but in HongKong, PS3's are 230 dollars cheaper than in Europe. So it seemed like a great offer. Besides, the store even gave me Ratchet and Clank for free!!!
  • I've bought a lot of comic book collections recently. Bought a Punisher book, a Thor book and a Marvel Encyclopedia. I also bought the new James Bond book(Devil May Care) because I wanted a book to read on myI Hong Kong-Manila flight.
  • Finally, I met Gerard Depardieu! Most of you don't know who he is, but he's a really famous French actor who is famous for his HUGE nose.

And that's about it. Bye Bye.

Your first game....

Good or bad, we all started our gaming lives with a game. A game that is special and that all gamers will hold in a special place in their hearts. What was your first game? Was it good or bad? My first game was Wario Land II for the Gameboy. It was a great platformer IMO and a game I'll always remember.

Another year gone by.

And I feel as though all my actions on this bloody planet were insignificant and petty. The only remotely thing good I did was to plant a fig tree but almost a year has gone by and no figs :(

Yes it's my birthday today(it was, rather, but I only had time to blog now) and like I've felt for the past 4 or 5 years, I feel sad. The only people besides my family who wished me happy birthday was DarkChriss( thank you for the great ecard) and my friend Lourenço. So wish me happy birthday even though you're late. I'll still feel the love.

A lot of stuff has been happening over the last few weeks it seems. E3 has come and gone, and now the time of the year where the best videogames come out ( Qurters 3 and 4) have begun. I know it's too late to give a blog about E3 so I'll just say that I was dissapointed at Nintendo's, interested by Sony's and surprised by Microsoft's. As for myself, I bought a couple of used games I played the Too Human demo, and I went back to playing Pokemon Diamond..

Dead Rising:

This game is a lot of fun. You get to kill zombies with lawnmowers, baseball bats, golf clubs, guns, chairs, plants, bowling balls, and pretty much anything you can find around the mall which is the setting for the game. However, then you die because you thought you were Rambo and could kill all the zombies that came near you and you have to start again from the beginning of the game. "Oh that's a pain in the butt but it's an awesome game, I'll continue". So then I play until the level I was at and I don't kill all the zombies I see, only those in my way. And I get to the first boss: Carlito. After 20 minutes or so I make the bastard run away. Sweet. Then I get a call on my walkie-talkie saying there's a problem at the mall's rollercoaster. Okay, I haven't saved the game but it's probably nothing serious. So I get there, and I try to turn the rollercoaster off. I was kinda sleepy so I yawned for a long while. BAM!!! I'm in a friggin cutscene with a psychopathic clown juggling two chainsaws. Shiite! I get into the combat and I realize that I'm on my last health bar with no restaurants to be found and I have no more ammo. 'Nuff said. So due to the frustrating saving system I'd give this game a 5. Other than that it's the best zombie game ever.

Max Payne-

This game oozes s-t-y-l-e. Everything from the comic book-esque cutscenes of the great story, to the voices of the characters, to the bullet time sequences, this game is definetely one of the coolest games I've ever played. I got it for 4 euros(7 dollars more or less)second-hand. I'm still on the 8 chapter of the first part of the game but I'm really enjoying it. I'm actually quite impressed at the game's visuals and sound for an early 2000's game.

Too Human:

I played the demo yesterday and I was pretty impressed at the game. I didn't have any problems with the controls or with the camera as many people have complained. I liked the level-up and weapons menu: they were fairly straightforward. The only problem I had with the game was the graphics. I thought that they were nice but there was a lot of room for improvement speciall on character models. But it's only a demo so I'm hoping that the final version will be more polished. I'm definetely getting this game.

As for me...

I'm going to the Philipines on Wednesday(my birthday!!!) to visit my father. I'm really excited because I'll be visiting Hong Kong while I'm there. So I won't be as active on gamespot but I'll try to comment on other people's profiles. Bye!

3 Things that drive me crazy in the videogame industry.

1) Nintendo- I don't really hate them. I'm just ****ing dissapointed at them which is a close relative of hatred. They took a ginormous dump on the faithful Nintendo supporters who helped the brand stay alive by buying the Nintendo 64 and the Gamecube. Now they've got the casual gamers and they don't need or care about the hardcore gamers anymore. Now they have the Wii. And the Wii works like Lindsay Lohan: A tiny, skinny white b**** who doesn't have to have any good products released to get money. **** you, Nintendo, you've sold out.

2)Sony- Arrogant morons. They give us Blu-Ray which we don't really need but they act as if it's a revolutionary format that will change the movie experiences completely. Well, it doesn't and it won't and we're not stupid enough to buy your crap... yet. Their blockbuster titles already were just 2 handfuls of IP's but those handfuls have decreased significantly in size and in quality with the passing of Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy XIII and Resident Evil 5 to the 360 as well. Now they have the Gran Turismo series( which Sony has been milking out into oblivion with their prologues and epilogues and whatnots), the God of War series and a maybe on the continuation of Metal Gear Solid 4. Oh and to be fair there's gonna be another Resistance but does it really matter that much with Gears 2 around the block? Didn't think so, pal. With all said and done, how can Sony expect the consumer to buy the most expensive console on the market, which has the smallest amount of games in their library(not to mention the least amount of EXCLUSIVE games) with the only plus side being an Internet browser and free online play? I'm dissapointed at you Sony, too.

3)A certain videogaming website who gave Halo 3 a 9.5, GTA IV a 10, Bioshock a 9 and Battlefield an 8.5- Ever since the whole Kane and Lynch scandal, this website has gone down the hill in terms of reviews of previews. Jeff Gerstman left, then Alex Navarro left and now gamespot is filled with youngsters in their early 20's who write reviews not for pleasure or to inform other people but to please the publshers and to make money with ads.

However, I have to cut this website some slack. Sometimes they don't give an low score or a high score to a game for money: sometimes they do it due to incompetence and to mental retardation. Final Fantasy Tactics A2 a 7? I'll agree that not much has changed from the last game but the same thing happened with Halo 3 and it got a 9.5!A game that didn't innovate in the FPS genre not to mention it doesn't improve on its own series gets a better score that BioShock which had an excellent story and was one of the most original and fresh games of the year! Be ****ing coherent!

Killing in the name of!

Sorry for the lack of blogs lately, but I've been busy relaxing. I tried posting some pics from my last day of school but there was some kind of error of sorts. *sigh* Anyways here is what I've been doing:

  • Bought a banana yellow Ibanez Gio and a Line 6 Spider 3 30 watt amp and have played it until blood flows from the blisters of my fingers.
  • Played DS until the sunrise: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Grimoire of the Rift(amazing!), Phoenix Wright: Ace Atourney(amusing), Sega Superstar Tennis(like an internet Macromedia game: fun for 30 minutes at a time), Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords(bizarre but fun), and I have yet to play a couple of game I...er..."borrowed" off the Internet. Completely legit stuff of course hehe :P
  • Seen the first 2 seasons of American Dad, all the Indy movies, the godfather trilogy, the Star Wars trilogy( the original one), Scarface, the Big Lebowski, Family Guy Star Wars and the Holy Grail by Monty Python. All on my Xbox 360.

Pretty calm summer so far. However in less than a month it's my birthday! Woohoo! And I'll be getting on a plane to the Philipines to see my dad for the first time this year. Really happy for that. Also I plan to:

  • Go to the Rage Against the Machine concert tommorow!!!
  • Get Battlefield Bad Company!
  • Get Star Wars Force Unleashed!

There's also something else I'd like to mention. I'm getting a Wii for Christmas! My Mom says she's really interested in Wii Fit and will get it as a family present. It's funny how before she knew about Wii Fit my mom called every game, console or game accessory a gameboy or a playstation. Now she's developing a curiousity in the game industry. So thank you Nintendo for advertising in the malls, Tv and "pink" magazines ;)

Rant!

I like the Wii, don't get me wrong. It's just that I don't think I could get all my gaming needs from a Wii alone and I don't like Nintendo's approach to hardcore gamers. I like the casual approach of the Wii, but it seems too casual. It has a handful of hardcore games but the rest is mainly junk trying to sell with the apeal of Wii-mote controls. Also, I get the impression that Nintendo is being a f***tard and taking a huge dump on all the Nintendo fans who stood by Nintendo and stood by the brand instead of going Sony or Microsoft on their a$$es during the N64 and the Gamecube years when not all was peachy for Nintendo. Now they're concentrating theire efforts on casual games like Wii fit so to appeal to a kind of people( like my mom) who know nothing about videogames. It seems as if Nintendo stopped caring about REAL gamers. They give the usual Mario, SSB, Zelda, Metroid games kind of like a lazy parent gives a hungry baby a passafire because the parent is busy doing something and doesn't want to actually feed the baby.

I bought a Nintendo 64, and a Gamecube, I didn't give up on Nintendo despite all my friends had PS1's and PS2's. Sure I also bought them but I didn't forget about Nintendo. I don't want Nintendo to forget about me. About all of us. F*** casual gamers. They have lives and girlfriends. I don't :( Give me games Nintendo. REAL games.

Da da da da! Da da da!

Just watched Indiana Jones: The Crystal Skull and I loved it! It was really great. It's funny how the aliens look a lot like the aliens from "Destroy All Humans!". Am I the only one who thinks so?

My legs...

So it's the day after Rock and Rio and I fell very sore. A day of moshing, jumping, clapping and screaming really took a toll one me. But it was so worth it.

Muse: The highlight of the day. Every moment from the "No one's gonna take me alive" in Knights of Cydonia to the intro of Newborn to the chorus of Hysteria...It was amazing.I loved it!: one of the best concerts I have ever been to. I can't tell you what the best song was because they're all amazing!

Kaiser Chiefs: An excellent concert. The lead singer wouldn't stop running and jumping and shouting and making jokes. I really enjoyed it. The best song was probably We Are the Angry Mob or Oh My God.

The Offspring: So dissapointing. Sadly, this once great band of the 90's is now really old, and boring.

Linkin Park:Decent concert. It's not the best Linkin Park concert I've seen but it was fun. Best song was Crawling.

And so there you have it: my comments on each band that performed yesterday in Rock in Rio. Overally I had a blast, specially with Muse. I'd also like to know what were the top 3 concerts you've ever been to.

Cheers,

Multiplayer vs. Single Player

I finished reading and watching(yes I do them both) the review for GRiD and I was wondering if it got the score it got for having limited multiplayer options. Because it seems that nowadays a game isn't excellent if it doesn't have an online component no matter how crappy it is(e.g. GTA IV). And this saddens me because even at my young age, I remember the quality times I had alone in my room playing Banjo-Kazooie, Pilot Wings 64 and Destruction Derby on my Nintendo 64 and never caring about other people when I played.

I still do the same with games like BioShock, GTA IV and Gears of War. In fact, my first online experience was with Halo 3. I enjoy playing with other gamers, I do. I like socializing and meeting different people but I hate it when people ruin other peoples' gaming experience. Like the 5 year olds you play online or the guys who swear like they're on a Jerry Springer episode and even the guys who cheat.

That's why I've given up on multiplayer. What are your opinions? Do you prefer multi-player or single-player?
