yea i never passed 6 a day... still happened random as hell. cant even get my game out the drive. this is immediately after the BR drive problem alsoYeah too many hours of play is a common factor in YLOD......I just had mine bite the dust about 2 weeks ago. I had to get a new one cause Sony couldn't fix it so they replaced my old one with a new one. Now I keep my play time to a minimum, 2-6 hours a day max. Heat can also be a factor, just keep it dust free and put the PS3 in the upright position (if you can) to cut back on the heat issues.

I just got it yesterday, 2 weeks since I fixed the blu ray drive problem.
I'm still under warranty but it's definately BS i had the 40GB by the way.
It just randomly shut off and was blinking red until i pressed the on/off button in the front then it just remained red in stand by, i turned it back on later everything was fine, after i shut it down that time it never turned on since, it would go blue n green and then yellow, and then blinking red. can't even get my disc out.

i bought one a while ago and it cost me $89 +shipping. It was a refurb laser though, i didnt know the difference before i bought one
did it work?yeah. i did manage to break part of the disc loader though, nothing serious just the little spring loaded sensors, so if you do take it apart yourself make sure not to touch anything you don't have too haha
yea i tried cleaning the lens once so i know my way around the system lol but still quite a costly piece of hardware. canadian im lookin at 100-120 for that piece. May as well buy the fresh 360 pro half price... agree?I know it is the laser because i have had some extensive repair experience with this type of stuff// i found other replacement parts but they were far too expensive//for that amount i have to pay i am better off getting a new system//thanks for your reply thoughbrandonk318yea i was sure my problem was the laser too, im not saying yours isnt though its just what i thought my problem was. May be wrong though I only had 1 store really check it out, I think I'm better off buying a new system too, maybe repairing and selling the old one but it's not really a good time to spend so much money it's almost half a grand and paying 190 on top of that is ridiculous, especially when its something we have no control over. anyways i think im going to get a 360 pro for 150 but im not too excited about their games library :( but on the flipside im beginning to hate sony over this bs feels like were being robbed fixing it.

[QUOTE="Bow-T_88"]lol @ ur sad case and me not reading it. Ps3's dont break, people break ps3's coolkid93True. And if you were playing Killzone2 then that might be the problem! That game is cursed! Alot of people who's ps3 had the YLOD OR in your words ps3's broke had that disk stuck in their ps3! :P:lol: Sike just kidding. The last thing I played befre it stopped reading discs was Killzone 2. As a matter of fact it froze, I restarted and it hasn't read a disc since. That game may as well be cursed.

With the older models, yeah.
This is also due in part by the fact that people don't know how to take care of their crap.
So True,When I Heard Of This Problem I Said The Same thing People Gotta Learn To Take Care Of Their Things.
What a stupid comment, it's not always the customers fault. My ps3 was in a well ventilated area ad conveniently on the 14th month it stops reading discs. No physical damage done to my ps3 as a matter of fact I haven't even touched the system physically in days.Just wanted to give an update on my situation. Me being so furious with sony I refused to send it in, I instead was busy with school and stopped playing the PS3 all together. Well just the other day I figured why not, i popped a blu-ray movie in and it worked. I was shocked, tried my other discs, and now it works prefectly fine again. Do NOT ever send your PS3 into sony. Im sure they have some money game going on with its customers to try and rake in more cash!
Good to hear it worked...you saved your ass $150 lol...well I got mine repaired at a third party for $100, works fine now...but it was still $100 T_T I think the same thing! ATTENTION PPL WITH BLU RAY ERRORS I got mine diagnosed but not repaired because I didn't have all the money yet but anyways the guy tried new lasers and everything and it still wouldn't work. He told me it was a problem with the chip in the blu ray drive and he didn't have the tools to fix it because they have special encryptions exclusive to every ps3 system that could only be fixed by sony, by the way they're charging me 190.97 for repair and I got the system new for $400, seems like a rip off to me. Total BS Sony has the worst customer service. I can't get a 360 because I don't like the games but atleast they have a good warranty with good customer service. Who really cares about failure rates when you got good customer service?Where is the best place to buy blu ray drives and laser for ps3? I checked everywhere and i can't find a good source of them for a good price. And just in case other replacement parts for the system.brandonk318It may not be the blu ray laser because I sent mine to get repaired locally and was told the laser is working fine but the chip in the blu ray drive was deficient and it couldnt be replaced by anyone other than sony because they had special encryptions exclusive to each system... sony is terribly, forcing people to pay 190.97 for sumthin dat stopped working conveniently a month out of warranty and asking me to pay just about half what i apid for a new one ( i got mine for 400 after tax i got 10% off, and repair is 190.97 in canada)
