[QUOTE="Meejoe27"]

But what is the incentive to be rich?

Those 1% also have to pay taxes! LOTS of taxes!

Taxes make being rich not even worth it. I mean poor people get to keep 100% of their income, so really poor people are more rich than rich people.

What fun is a 400 foot sail boat when you have to pay 51% of your income to the governement? Why even buy a 50,000 sq foot home for your 19 year old super model girlfriend, the government is just going to take some "Luxury tax" whatever that means. Since when is owning a home a luxury? last i heard shelter was needed to survive. checkmate Govt.

Want to buy an island? hold on there buddy the Government wants to charge you taxes to pay for "Public schools" and "Nation Defense" WTF, my kids don't go to public schools, and i can just buy an army to defend myself, so why should i pay taxes? Poor people need healthcare? Well I don't need healthcare, my live in family doctor does all that. Poor people should just get live in family doctors. problem solved, omg i'm a genius, No poor people are just too dumb to think of theses things.

If i wanted to drive i would just have a road paved and then torn up after i'm done. Poor people should just do the same.

Poor people use money as an excuse for everything. get a job that pays 30 million a year and quit complaining.

xionvalkyrie

Actually, those 1% pay less taxes ratio wise than the middle class do. They have a ton of legal loopholes they use for tax write offs, so in the end, the %of their total wealth they pay to taxes is much less than what the middle class has to pay. Most of the American taxes come from the middle class.

not to mention all those secret bank accounts in Swiss and Luxembourg banks...

the rich still make tens of millions, despite paying much of it off in the form of taxes. We could get insanely high revenue if we made it illegal to hide your money in offshore accounts.

Look at this (it's a relatively unbiased source, btw): http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=2908

Are we still debating the estate tax? We need to tax the hell out of these people. Think of the new revenue streams!

I agree with your position on health care, but considering the fact that our hc system has been based on treating the symptoms instead of preventative care (unlike Europe) for so long, we have become a nation of overmedicated sick people. When health care does pass, we ARE going to be seeing some long lines, unfortunately. But, after a generation of preventative care, then the waiting lines will evaporate. Considering the fact that the U.S. is jumping on the bandwagon so late, we may have some distribution problems ahead, and the Republicans/Libertarians will be ready to declare the entire universal hc system a failure the moment one person is put on a waiting list.

tycoonmike

That's because, by Pelosi's and Reid's own words, it will be. They claim that no one will be put on waiting lists, and yet in all the comparable programs in Europe and Asia thousands are put on government waiting lists for operations that could save their lives or save a lot of pain and agony. If even one person is put on a waiting list, then by the leading Democrats own words, it will be a failure.

And, not to mention, that when those long lines do form, it won't matter if they last for a year, a week, or even a day. If the general population sees them, they'll cry foul, lowering the already falling public opinion for universal health care. And, as history should have taught us, the more a population dislikes a policy the more they'll complain until finally the government is forced to stop it once and for all.

Incorrect. Only 15% of those using Britains's national health care system are put on wait lists of over 6 days. In the United States, it's 25%. I realize that Canada is the example that many conservatives cite as having lackluster care (the wait times are supposed to be at 33%), but we're not talking about doing what Canada's doing. Obviously, the number of wait lists will increase once we get everyone covered, but only temporarily. The livelihood of 46 million Americans, remember, is more important than money (in my opinion...yours may differ).

I'm really liking Suspyre and Pain of Salvation right now. And Dream Evil. Of course, Queensryche will always be my favorite. :D

I have to admit that recent developments in this country have shocked me. I'm struggling to understand where these people came from and who has stolen their brains.

I've decided to stick to the coastal regions.

hakanakumono

That's my plan too. Remember, the coasts have BEACH BABES! Something those inland red states will never be able to truly appreciate...:D

[QUOTE="Hot-Tamale"]

[QUOTE="psychobrew"] Did you even read the article? A family of three who earns $60,000 is not rich at all (yes, this family will be fined if they don't purchase a $13,000 health policy). In fact, it basically amounts to a tax on the uninsured middle ****because they still won't be able to afford a health care, but they'll be giving uncle sam and extra $4,000 a year. If the fine were for those earning over $250,000 per year, that would be one thing, but it's clearly not. The bottom line is Obama made some campaing pledges that he needs to stick to. This is just one more way to squeeze the middle ****psychobrew

A family of three that makes $60,000 is upper middle, no doubt about it. Remember, this is corresponding to the healthcare legislation that is being proposed. This will only take effect once ALL AMERICANS ARE COVERED. This is supposed to work hand-in-hand with that bill. Just remember that if you read an article, you should relate it to what's going on in politics at the same time.

There's a ton of doubt about it, though it depends on where you live. The poverty levels are wacked. In some areas, $60,000 barely pays the bills. If you live near a big city, you can't even afford your own house on that salary anymore. Add a $13,000 per year expense on top of that and some people will sink. Out in the less populated (and much cheaper) areas, $60,000 does allow you to live a very comfortable life. The fines will be in effect before all Americans are covered, otherwise the fines would never start. Even after the system is overhauled, health care is still going to be prohibitively expensive, and after a few years it will slip back in to the same mess it's in now.

We'll just have to wait and see. At least we can agree on that. ;)

In terms of terrifying zombie films, Evil Dead II and Braindead immediately come to mind. Both are extremely brutal and gory, and are considered classics by the horror community.

_en1gma_

Evil Dead was terrifying? :lol:

That movie was silly as hell.

And while I've never seen Braindead, this review makes it out to be 1% terrifying and 99% ridiculously and hilariously awesome...

BTW, the above spoiler-heavy link has screen caps of some very gruesome images, so please do not click if you are squeamish.

But yeah...apparently I REALLY need to watch Braindead.

Have you seen Slither?

Slither was okay.

ANd for the record, I do NOT think Evil Dead II or Braindead are particularly frightening. They're 90% comedy anyways...(but amazing films nonetheless). :D
