A letter of music, oh Vixen from the streets

Dear Vixen, lady of the streets,

Thanks for your last letter and the update on your latest client. Who knew the Deputy Prime Minister was such a good tipper eh?

I must tell you about an album I purchased this morning, the new Kings of Leon album enititled "Because of the Times". It's by far the best album of 2007 so far. As well as the amazing first single "On Call", the album opens with a fantastic tale of pregnancy in "Knocked Up", a seven minute anthem which never ends, and you never want it to. And yeah, there are other good songs. Like "My Party". Don't believe me, buy it.

I'm kind of going off Klaxons at the moment. They used to be such an amazing innovative band, but after a while you've just listened to an album too many times and they are constantly overplayed. Plus they changed the original version of Gravity's Rainbow and now it's not as good.

TRACY BARLOW'S GUILTY!!!!! Rejoice.

From that boy Ollie

Goodbye Salma, and don't bother coming back

I thought I'd be really awkward and do my blogs a bit differently. Mainly because one of my favourite things is creative writing, a course which I may choose to study at university should I get accepted into Glasgow Strathclyde but also because sometimes I think that you must read so many blogs, you must get a bit bored of the whole format.

So I'm experimenting using the form of letter-writing:

Dear Vixen, lady of the streets,

It's been a long time since my last letter, a letter of woe and sorrow. Or not. Actually it was pretty much just a normal letter but hey, you know how I like to exaggerate.

Firstly I must ask are you also gutted that Skins has finished its 1st season? Only 9 episodes they give us? That's just wrong. Here is Skins, probably the best UK TV show of the last 6 years but with only 9 episodes? You can't have too much of a good thing. The last 3 episodes of the series were absolutely fantastic, what with Michelle's "seduction" of Sid and then Tony ruining her budding relationship with psychopath Josh, followed the next week by the wonderful episode devoted to Effy and some new rave psychos and then the last episode which had some focus on all of the characters ... Anwar's birthday party was hilarious, the cliffhanger ending was just wow and then the ending got a bit surreal but all in all, such a fantastic series. Most of all, Sid and Cassie ... yayy!

Then my other obsession, Ugly Betty, has been pretty strong recently. I thought the Swag episode was brilliant, itwas great that we got to see some more of Christina. And is that the end of Sofia Reyes? Please tell me she won't be back, I hated her. I miss Himbo Daniel. And also, we the people need Henry/Betty. Don't you agree Walter should just get lost in a ditch somewhere and die?

I think this season of Desperate Housewives is by far superior to the first two.. This season is the first season where I have been reall angry to have missed an episode, and I've watched most of the repeats on e4. This season's mystery is absolutely fantastic, I think all the characters involved are absolutely brilliant. Gloria Hodge? She's like Felicia on crack. I can't wait to find out who killed Monique. I also think the whole Gaby/Zach thing is really entertaining and has actually make me like Zach Young (no, not in that way). I'm loving all the Tom/Lynette scenes we're getting with the pizzeria but I hate that miniNora they've been lumbered with. Wouldn't it make more sense for her to move in with her grandparents? Susan/Ian ... meh, bring back Karl!

Then ER, Hollyoaks and Balls of Steel ... all are being great atm. I hated BoS last time it was on and now it's regular viewing.

I must also mention Coronation Street. Of course Tracy isn't going to get away with murder, we all know that. I just can't wait til Monday to see her face fall when she's found guilty. They should throw away the key! I also love the whole Janice/Leanne dynamic what with Leanne's escorting. Their scenes on Wednesday night at the restaurant were excellent.

And yes, I do have my own personal life. I'm sure you're wondering why I'm chaffing about television. Harry and I are getting along just swimmingly, we've almost been going out for 3 months and I actually love him. I didn't think I was actually capable of being in love at such a young age. He's taking me and a few friends to a Klaxons gig in a few weeks, which will be the 2nd time I've seen them live (they're actually amazing) but then he's off to university in autumn  which is going to be hell, although he is going to Hertfordshire which isn't that far away. But still, it's gonna be hell when he goes.

I've also fallen out with one of my best friends which has kinda tore my whole group of friends apart. I hate that people take sides when it's my argument. I especially hate that most of my friends from that group appear to have taken her side.

So yeah, signing out.

Ollie

Thats my letter to Vixen the prostitute. WHO I just made up. Or you. So comment my blog.

:D

So The Sopranos is the top drama ever?

Wow, that was some bad phrasing in that title. "Top drama".

But I have tried to watch The Sopranos in the past and found it incredibly difficult to get into. For one, I couldn't find even one character likable and I found that, although the concept of the show is good, the actual show itself fails to inspire anything from me.

And then it got me thinking, which other "top" dramas are extremely overrated and of course that brought me on to Dr Who and Lost (sorry Shawn), a family science fiction "drama" of which the word painful is an understatement and even the hope of David Tennant taking his shirt off can't get me to watch. The latter, a headache-inducing show which ends a season how it started - without any answers and unfortunately it seems that it'll be the end of my lifetime before this show ends.

But don't worry. I also like television. A strong episode of Ugly Betty on Friday but is anyone else sick to death of Salma Hayek's character? I hate that we'll be seeing more of her and I'd rather we got more focus on characters such as Christina, Santos and Amanda. I have to say, Wilhelmina and Marc talking to the prostitutes was the most hilarious thing ever.

I can't believe I doubted over Skins would be good or not. I think the reason I didn't like the first episode that much was because Tony is such an egotistical, manipulative **** that I wanted to punch him. I can't watch About a Boy anymore because Nicholas Hoult makes me angry. This week's Russian episode, written by the legendary Simon Amstell, was absolutely hilarious and it was good to get some perspective on the friendship between Maxxie and Anwar but I'm not happy that these two characters - especially the former - are getting practically nothing to do. And Cassie? WHERE WAS SHE??????

Oh and a new avatar. Skins-stylee.

I haven't been able to check out Heroes yet but it seems interesting. I might wait until it is transmitted on BBC2. And also The Closer's back on which is something good to avoid Charlotte Church, who really really grates on me.

=D

Yeah my personal life is OK at the moment. Apart from UCAS stress. We got the Higher Education talk on Thursday night and I was stunned at just how much university is going to cost me, and I was hoping to go to Stirling University too but the Scottish uni system is completely different. So yes, Higher Education is very very daunting and worrying and I need to stop buying loads of CDs and DVDs otherwise I'll be poor forever ...

+ a list of the Top 10 British TV Characters

10. Dr Guy Secretan (Green Wing)

In the first of 3 appearances from a Green Wing cast member tonight, Dr. Guy Secretan - played brilliantly by Stephen Whatshisface - is one of the show's brilliant leads. An egotistical w*nker he may be, he's also one of the show's brightest sparks and I don't think the Mac/Caroline buildup would have been as interesting if he were involved. Highlights include Geeball and his community service.

9. Cassie (Skins)

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself including a character in this list from a show which started only last week but Cassie so far is a rivetting character and the trailer for this week's episode seems to further prove this. The fact she's been in a mental institute (was it?) and can only eat certain things is definitely something to be explored and I can see her character being the highlight of the show already.

ASo I'm a weatherman now?

TV.com is so very stupid.

And Skins was not that great. Tried a bit too hard to be something it's not.

Ugly Betty seems to be picking up steam. The Lost Room seemed very lost though and I don't think I'll be tuning in this week.

+ I now have a job

And I continue to wish that John Paul from Hollyoaks is real. He told Craig that he loves him in an absolutely fantastic episode on Friday.

There is a God who watches over TV ...

He makes 24, Desperate Housewives and ER have great start to their seasons.

He makes Hollyoaks villainess Clare Cunningham return to wreak havoc.

And then he provides us with this bit of news ...

"Coronation Street actress Wendi Peters is to quit the show after four years.

The 38-year-old – who plays loudmouth mother-from-hell Cilla Battersby-Brown – informed executive producer Steve Frost of her decision to leave at the end of last year.

The soap's writing team are now in the process of working on a dramatic exit storyline for the character.

Of her decision to call time on her role, Wendi said: "I've had a brilliant four years at Coronation Street. It's been filled with wonderful experiences and great opportunities.

"I feel very privileged to have been given the fantastic character of Cilla and I shall really miss her. I'm looking forward to spending a bit more time with my family and pursuing and working on other projects."

Steve Frost commented: "Wendi is a valued member of the cast and she has made the character of Cilla one of the most colourful and memorable characters in soap history.

"We totally understand her reasons for wanting to leave and are grateful that she has given us so much notice – this means that we can spend time writing an exit storyline which will do her and the character of Cilla justice."

Cilla will return to Weatherfield on Monday (Jan 22) from the trip of a lifetime after announcing to Les and the neighbours that she had duped them all over her claim that she was suffering from skin cancer.

Wendi currently commutes from Hertfordshire to Manchester to play Cilla and is "looking forward to combining new roles with spending more time with husband Kenny and daughter Gracie."

Cilla's final scenes on the cobbles are to air in the autumn."

She's only 38 though?

But there is The TV Devil though. And he got rid of Sheila on Shameless, a character who will be sorely missed especially seeing as she was my favourite.

Song I'm Obsessed With Atm:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-FZ2eIM9yQ

My issues with the new ER credits

Firstly that song is a main part of the show's history. It's always been there at the beginning of the episode and I miss it. Plus it can't be that hard to integreate cast clips into the credits.

And secondly ...

 I DON'T LIKE SNOW PATROL!

+ why is everyone obsessed with this awful Mika song? he looks like Kemal off that season of Big Brother and the song's pretty dreadful. And speaking of Big Brother, thank God Jade's gone - the show is still unbearable however.

And so ...

It seems my icon issues continue to develop. That is supposed to be Alan Car and Justin Lee Collins from The Friday Night Project but it is in fact just Justin's teeth. Any tips on resizing?

Oh and I have written my first review in ages. I think I'll continue to review this season of Shameless. Of course my reviewing skills are a bit shabby because I haven't written one since September.

And FilmSpot? That sounds interesting. I shall explore when I have the time.

"Alan, are you humping the ground?"

Anyone else agree that TeeVee has had a good start this year? Or anyone think differently?

The first thing I want to talk about is the final episode of Green Wing. That is one show I'm going to miss so much and the 110 minute special was absolutely hilarious. The Joanna/Statham (or is it Cherry/Merv?) on the run storyline was fantastic. I especially liked Statham's forefit and the squirting of the tomato sauce. I also loved the stuff with the Human Resources girls and Karen's makeover was fantastic. "I'm a bit psychic now."

Then of course Desperate Housewives returned with a great few episodes which were a major improvement on Season 2's first two episodes. I think Bree has become very very stupid marrying Orson even with her doubts over his innocence over the disappearance of Alma whereas the Nora vs. Lynette stuff is absolutely great. This English guy sucks though and why are they bringing back John Rowland?

Of course the highlight of my week was the return of ER to e4. So much drama packed into the episode but what a season premiere it was. I'm glad that this may be the last we've seen of Steve but what will be the reprocussions for Sam? Jerry's mother was fantastic and I think ERNeela could be replaced by SurgeryNeela very soon. Also hoping that baby Joe Lockhart-Kovac pulls through safely from the ordeal - and is that Sally Field back next week?

I'm not quite sure what I make of Ugly Betty yet. Some parts of it were really good and some bits of it were a bit boring. I guess it was an OK effort but I didn't really think it was worth the hype and I don't think it's  something I'll end up watching on a regular basis. But while I talk about Friday nights on Channel 4, consider me well and truly hooked on Celebrity Big Brother (Jade to win!) and I'm absolutely ecstatic about the return of The Friday Night Project. Such a good start it had as well, David Tennant was brilliant as the guest host and Alan Carr was on top form on the Friday Night News.

And the intercourse positions game? Too funny.

And so I shall finish this off with a look at my soaps. I thought Coronation Street would be on the right track now that Frankie has left and that Framie is finally over but it's been a real miseryfest this week with Violet's eptopic pregnancy and incredibly snoozeworthy with the Connor clan (excluding Michelle). However it's been good watching Janice Battersby get a love interest and Vicky Entwistle has brightened up Corrie so far this year.

Hollyoaks hasn't been great this week either. Going into 2007, the two central plots from last year have all been wrapped up now and it seems that the new producer may be showing signs of not knowing where he's going. The Gilly/Tania thing was pointless as is all the screentime they give to Justin Burton. And when oh when will John Paul McQueen do us all a favour and tell Craig he loves him?

 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
