I dont know if I believe it. Don Mattrick and Major Nelson were also saying that Microsoft wasn't going to change their approach to online-DRM and used games, then they did. They've retracted on everything except Kinect.
It can already function without Kinect, so we're half way there. The console will sell well at its initial launch, but overtime when sales start to stagnate, they'll offer it without Kinect to try to boost sales.
They'd lower the price before they offer kinectless version. The entire point of selling the kinect with every console is to insure everyone has one. That way devs can program knowing everyone will have one. They couldn't do that with the 360 because it wasn't standard. Not sure why it's so hard for cows to understand. I guess staying stagnant and offering the same experience as the previous gen with nothing new is what cows call "next gen". People understand the reasoning behind it all, but you cant force "next gen innovation" down people's throats. If people really dont want Kinect, they wont buy it. And when it comes to that, MS will have a choice to make... is it better to continue manufacturing of kinect and bundle it with the console, to ensure everyone has one, but the reduce the price of the console so pretty much they are giving kinect away for free? Or, would it be better to sell the X1 alone and try to make some sort of profit on that, and then try to sell kinect seperately, rather than just giving it away.
