[QUOTE="Idonomeus"][QUOTE="samusarmada"]Their analysis is much deeper than that, detailing how it is "KOTOR all over again" samusarmada
So they think Mass Effect is KOTOR all over again and Halo 3 is the most innovative game this year. I really don't understand their point of view considering ME made more improvements to the way the dialogue and story was told then any aspect of Halo 3was improved from previous games. The combat and overall game design was completely different to KOTOR, it wasn't just enhancements there but a complete change of direction.
"Some [of the characters] are beautiful, others are bizarre. Some even get angry from time to time . But few are worth the effort of conversation. "Tell me more" your character says. "Please don't" says the voice inside your head. Where are the vaudeville rogues in this galaxy. Where are the entertainers?"
"The conversation wheel, which pops up early to keep the speech rolling, asks you to choose tone rather than precise words. At worst, the choices are so moderate as to be more or less the same, and the words which come out don't relate."
"The game's a real plate spinner - and unfortunately it shows. the combat...engages but never electrifies. the biotic attacks...are so bland you'll opt for maximum firepower, which dominates the enemy if logically upgraded. An ill-advised 'normal' difficulty settingbetrays that there are 2 genres here, stats based RPG and frenetic shooter which dont really get along."
"...and the story (especially the obvious ending) seldom justifies the search [for higher difficulty levels and other paths].
I didn't find that very relevant to the topic of it being KOTOR all over again. Even if they thought aspects of the story were surely they can't ignore the fact that the combat is more similar to a TPS while KOTOR was a D&D based traditional RPG. I disagree with their analysis of the dialogue wheel because it's a vast improvement to having to scroll through lines of text, the combat is an improved version of what Deus Ex offered and it's one of the greatest games of all time. The characters and story are too subjective for me to comment on. It's safe to say very few people, either critics or gamers would agree with them about the story. Not the best ever but certainly one of the best in recent times.
