Everyone is biased and anyone who claims not to be is simply delusional. It's the degree of bias that should be the question.

KANE AND LYNCH? LOL.

Don't mention that game. Eidos can suck it!

You better watch it. The ediots at edios might call up your boss and get you fired for that kind of talk.

It's my runner up. The graphics engine is what kept it from being my GOTY and I'm not even talking about the frame rate or lack of v-sync. The game was amazing and they did a great job with what they had to work with and the real budget constrains they faced but I can't stop thinking how amazing this game could have been if they used a lower spec engine. Why would this improve the game you may ask? Well I feel the engine forced them to re-use scenery more often then they would have had to with a lower spec engine.

It costs more to make everything look this good and it takes to to make everything look this good. I would have gladly traded good looks for more variety. That isn't to say there was a serious lack of variety and it's no where near as bas as in Oblivion but different environments to explore are a huge part of an RPG for me and more would have been better.

My GOTY has to go to Spaceforce: Rogue Universe. It had issues but this game captured my imagination and drew me in for hours on end like no other game I played this year. The game had tons of content and there always seemed like there was something new to do or to explore. Most elements of the game had lots of depth and it let you play the game in many ways and do things how you wanted to do them. I have always been a huge fan of games that allow freedom as well as space sim so this game was always going to be one of my favorite games this year, it not only met my expectations but surpassed them.

[QUOTE="Idonomeus"]No but what is with the fascination with scores? Are people buying games to play them these days or more interested in boasting about the scores their games got and telling people how superior the games they play are based on someone elses opinion. That last bit wasn't meant for you but it's amazing to me how much people care about review scores now. I can remember a time when no one really cared or at least no where near as much as people do today. End rant.CrimzonTide
I don't care about inidividual scores at all, but I do care about GR scores. They tend to give a good median of how good the game is; I find it very helpful when selecting games to buy. That review did a horrible job by overplaying the technical issues, it seemed as if he played it for the sole purpose of finding techinical issues, and ignoring the stronger parts of the game.

I agree and the review and site in general seems to be trying to cash in on what happened here at Gamespot and the general mistrust it created towards the larger gaming sites who get lots of revenue through ad money. They may have a different agenda but it really isn't that much less obvious then the larger sites and in the end it comes down to money in both cases. As for GR it has never helped me find the type of game i enjoy but if it helps you that's fine. My only problem is with people who use these scores as some sort of proof of the superiority of the games they enjoy and i wasn't referring to you when I talked about that. It just happened to be part of my rant.

Mass Effect flopped. Its a good game but many were saying it was set to be the best rpg of all time. stefanlek

There isn't anyone who considers it to be the best RPG of all time? I don't consider it to be but I have heard others saying it is their favorite. Who are you to say they are wrong?

Mass Effect is just a game and putting titles next to it's name like masterpiece, flawed or otherwise will only be relevant to the person giving the title. It will appeal to some people and other people will be wishing it was an action shooter or a D&D based RPG or whatever. I thought it was a very good game because I enjoyed the theme, it was ambitious and the game felt fresh to me. It had some issues that detracted from the experience but they were not serious enough to prvent me from enjoying any aspect of the gameplay. What's your opinion?

The less people who only look at scores the better this world will be. taker42

I agree. It's terrible Jeff got fired but if anything good is to come out of this entire mess it will be less people seeing reviews as the word of god.

I never did. It should be clear to most people who have been gaming for a while and don't only play 8.0+ games that these sites/magazines are geared towards hyping games from developers with big budgets to spend on advertisement. Marketing your game well has always been more important then anything else and these sites are part of the marketing machine.

Also, why have they fired him, but not removed or adjusted the score of the game? Why is the review still up? MrSickVisionz

His video review was taken down and it was meant to be what offended Edios. It does seem insane he would get fired for this but if you read the information we have and the general mood of those who know what happened it's safe to say he was fired for some crazy reason.
