I doubt XBOX Live will ever reach the communication market like MySpace and AIM. What ever happened to videogame consoles that played games as a primary feature? Am I the only one here who doesn't chat with his friends on his 360?
The background-downloading feature is somewhat inferior to the PlayStation 3's though. Too bad it tells you what you achieved. I always enjoyed the time between feeling accomplished for achieving digital ego points, only to find that you barely scored your first field goal in Madden '06.
What I don't get is why I would prefer text-messenging as opposed to voice chat. I can't pwn you all in GRAW and tell Nelson to go away at the same time. I can be such a noob sometimes.
Blu-Ray support, IMO, is PS3's highlight feature. Not for movies in general (in which Blu-Ray will most likely become the standard, as that last thing publishers want is multiple platforms to produce, and Blu-Ray outsold HD-DVDs 3:1), but for GAMES. Once developers are fed up with constantly compressing and cutting aspects from their games to fit on a suitable DVD9 disc, the Blu-Ray will look especially inviting. If I were to make a game, I would love the luxury of not giving two sh*ts about if a scene takes up too much space, or if cutscene needs to be compressed to save room for animations and what not. 25 GBs is a TON of space, not to mention 50 GBs in Dual-Layer discs. Because developers cannot assume that everyone who owns a 360 has an HD-DVD Drive, they can never hope to use it so long as Microsoft enforces it is a mere option only for a dieing movie format. As of now however, purchasing a PS3 is like chainsawing yourself across your chest, let alone shooting yourself in the foot. But as both the price, developer support, and functionality differences (including online play) narrow, both the Wii and 360 will once again have their heads handed to them when this generation is in full swing, but maybe not in the same fashion as with the past generations. BTW, Most Wii gamers aren't really dedicated customers, FireFritter. Seriously, are the same people addicted to Wii Sports likely to pick up anything other than Nintendo products, like Spiderman, Red Steel, or even RE4? And even if anyone wants a damn Wii, where the hell could they buy one? : (
