IpodHero176 Blog

Burst

It has been awhile since my last blog. There's not much to update about, but here are a few bits of info.

My friend let me borrow DBZ Burst Limit. It's a decent fighting game, but I prefer Budokai 3 to this. Good though. The story flows the same as the anime with a more manga feel to it(how it transitions).

I got a laptop for my birthday. It's an Acer with Windows XP Home. It has a 106 GB harddrive too, which might not be too big, but big enough to add music to.:)

I've been watching TGS on Game Trailers. It's not as Japanese-esque as I thought it would be(this is my first one to watch). It feels like PAX or a GOOD E3.:P One of the news that I found as funny was that Square-Enix is developing a DS game of the Peanuts(Charlie Brown, Snoopy, etc) comic. Strange, I know, but could be a good game.

I also think I will get Rock Band 2 next week. I didn't buy it at launch because I wanted the bundle. Some of my friends on Live have the game, and by Game Informer's score, it's worth the cash.

Now for the Rock Song Tourney. Your are almost at the finale! This week's contenders are:

Rockstars- Nickelback

vs

Layla- Eric Clapton

If you don't know who to vote for, just watch a little bit of the vids and choose, or just pick one. Your votes determine which song goes onto the next round!

NOTE: You must vote for one. Can't vote for neither.

Nimbleness

Goes a long way, especially when playing an instrument.:P I learned how to play 7 Nation Army all the way through, with only a few mistakes, mainly with the placement of the second part of the solo(I play the notes correctly, but it's suppose to be on the high E string, but I play it on the A string). I'm now slowly attempting to learn Brainstew, which isn't hard, but a good intro into power chords.

In gaming news, I have put some hours into ToV. I'm at the part
where you board the ship to Necrotopia(something like that). I think I am a little overleveled, but I'm not complaining.:P
Now for the impression:

Tales of Vesperia is a very decent JRPG with minor surprised twists and character development. I know some of the Tales fans will get on me for saying that, but the development is predictable and will not make you relate with the cast. The theme is mainly about(correct me if I'm wrong) exploration and stepping out of your comfort zone to do the things you want to do.

The gameplay is one of the game's highlights with the combat being very in-depth. It starts out simple and turns into a complex battle that you would normally expect in Star Ocean. I like the finishers(I forgot their names right now), but they are very difficult to pull off.I can't think of any issues with the gameplay.

The musical score is good, but not great compared to a FF game. There are a few download-worthy tracks, but I need to learn their names.:P Seriously, JRPG games should have the game's tracks in the manual.

The graphics are good, but the main problem is the change from CGI and 2D graphics that look like a scene from an anime. I don't have a problem with either version, but they need to decide whether to make the game have full CGI cutscenes or 2D animated scenes.

The game is a good rent, but a decent buy. I would recommend buying it if you are not planning on buying another game for awhile.

The Rock Song Tourney will be back in the next blog.

Sorry I haven't been on

That Hurricane(Ike) was stronger than what the media stated it was before it landed. Luckily, everyone in my neighborhood was unharmed.:) We were without power for 3 days, so instead of staying, my family and I went to San Antonio. It was fun there; despite what had happened days ago. I went to the Riverwalk, saw a free Blues concert, and got 2 games.:D I didn't bring my comp, which is why I wasn't on for awhile. The power is now on(we SA left when we found out it was on), and when I got home, I was able to play one of the two I got for my birthday.I will try and post in all of the missed blogs.

The games are:

The Force Unleashed

Tales of Vesperia

I will purchase Dragon Quest 4 DS tomorrow, if the Gamestop around me is open.

My school disctrict told us that school will begin next week.:D Free time with my 360.:D:D

Even though I have 3 tests when we come back.:|

My impression of TFU is brief, but it's a pretty good game if you are a Star Wars fan. Other than that, I would recommend renting first. The twist in the middle of the game isn't too exciting or surprising if not, unecessary. If anyone remembers when the developers said that there will be multiple endings depending on the choices you make, I'll just candidly tell you that they lied. The plot is so linear, that I thought I was almost done with the game. There are several cheap combos that both you and your opponent can do to each other. The only reason I died multiple times is that the enemies would do continuous combos before you could get up. Also, you don't start with all the powers that you did in the demo. Other than that, the game is alright. The gameplay is fun and the physics is entertaining also.

In my next blog, I will give an impression of Tales of Vesperia. Either the next one or the one after that.

I also made an account on Last.fm. The site is alright, but could be better. My only complain is the time limit on some songs. When I'm into a song, I get upset when it cuts off.

In other music news, I learned the solo of 7 Nation Army.:D I made a few edits to my version of the song, because the tab doesn't seem right on note placement.

Now for the Rock Song Tourney:

Division 3

Match 2

Mr.Crowley- Ozzy Osbourne

vs

Dream On- Aerosmith

If you don't know who to vote for, just watch a little bit of the vids and choose, or just pick one. Your votes determine which song goes onto the next round!

NOTE: You must vote for one. Can't vote for neither.

Really Harmonix? Really?

This a late blog, but I was having a pretty good time yesterday, since it was my birthday(The 10th for those who read this on the 12th)!:D I didn't get many presents since most of the things I want will be released next week. The things I got so far are:

-A $50 gift card

-Stocking stuffer-like things(body spray, socks, etc)

-Shirts

-$150 :D

I will get more, but not this week. My other presents in the following weeks will be:

Brisingr- The third and final book in the Inheritance trilogy

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed- Nothing more to say.:P

Dragon Quest 4: Chapters of the Chosen- I always wanted to play this on the DS, but luckily, SE helped me out on this one.

Tales of Vesperia- Suppose to be Infinite Undiscovery, but by the reviews, I changed it to ToV. I hear that it has a similar story as Symphonia.

As for the titleof the blog, it's about the news of RB2. At first, I thought that the game will be released on Sunday. I was half right and half wrong. The software is being released Sunday(the disc only), but not the bundle. A segment from the article:

"While the stand-alone version of the Xbox 360 game and individual guitar and drum peripherals will launch this weekend, a full bundle including both instruments, a mic, and the game should follow next month. The game will arrive on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and Wii later this year."

What point does that make? Why get the game and buy third party instruments separately?! I could get all of this with my birthday cash(and a little help), but that's all of my cash. No way I'm doing that!:| I could just get GHWT for $190 and get RB2(disc only), or just get GHWT, since it comes out on October 21, while RB2(bundle) comes out October 19.

I also get a day off of school tomorrow because of hurricane Ike. Everything always happens around my birthday! I wonder why?:?

I also meant to add that I am currently working on the solo from the song 7 Nation Army(By the White Stripes). It's a good beginning song to learn. After, I will try the rhythm part of the song.

There will not be a Rock Song tourney this week, but it will be back.

Epoch

A few weeks ago, I bought a new guitar from my friend, a Gibson Epoch fro $120. He's getting a new amp with the cash. I found it a good deal, so I went with it. It's nearly perfect too. I have learned the first 50 seconds of the song New York City Cops by The Strokes the first time I picked the guitar up.

epoch

I'm now looking for lessons, which I was going to learn from him, but I don't fit into his schedule, so I can't learn from him, so I'm looking in the Yellow Pages.com for teachers. I really want to become a good guitarist, but I really can't find a teacher without running into a ripoff. I wish that Joe Perry or Eric Johnson come to my door asking if anyone wants lessons. >.>

*still waiting for that doorbell*

Eric? Come on, you're not doing anything anymore! What's wrong with teaching someone?:|

In gaming news, I have been trying to finish Lost Odyssey. I have taken out

THB the Holy Beast,

BD Blue Dragon,

persona Persona,

CW Cave Worm,

and

Kelolon King Kelolon.

I also got

WT Well Travelled

And Skill Masters:

tt Tolten

sed Sed

cooke Cooke

jan Jansen

A tip for anyone who is playing LO on disc 4.

Temple of Enlightenment = Massive level up

Good grief, you can gain 20 levels in the outside of the temple!

I have gotten the boat in Half Life 2, and it's a little of a pain to control(not bad though).

I have decided to learn C++ later and learn Python first, since I hear it's a good stepping stone for C++. I'm not far in the tutorial, but it's easier to learn than C++.

I also found out that a developer actually resides less than 4 miles from my house!:D I e-mailed them about an internship, but they don't have any spots avaliable now, but when I get good in C++ to send them some demos or samples.

Now it's time for the Rock Song Tourney.

Division 3

Match 1

Kryptonite- 3 Doors Down

vs

One Winged Angel- Black Mages

If you don't know who to vote for, just watch a little bit of the vids and choose, or just pick one. Your votes determine which song goes onto the next round!

NOTE: You must vote for one. Can't vote for neither.

First Week Impressions

Well, I survived the first week of school. My courses are alright, but it seems pretty boring though. My say is set up like this:

1st Period- Health

2nd Period-Computer Science

3rd Period- U.S. History

4th Period- Algebra 2

5th Period- English 3

6th Period- Chemistry

7th Period- Multimedia and Animation

My favorite course would be Computer Science. It's very informative and I'm really glad I have an actual teacher to help me in learning programming. The other courses are pretty boring though, with Multimedia ending the day. It's a course with only 12 people in it, which is very small.

In gaming news, I'm now interested in getting GH: World Tour because of the confirmed setlist(as of August 27), which I will post now.

source: Guitar Hero News.com

The one that surprises me is the Low remix. Travis Barker's cover is pretty good, but not good enough to be in GH4. The Crank Dat cover of his was pretty good though. I'm glad Paramore is in it, they deserve it; and Beat It? It should be in there, and I'm glad they got the original, not the cover by Fall Out Boy.

Van Halen >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>John Mayer(who was the lead in the cover)

With Hotel California in it, my Dad can stop saying that they should put the song in everytime it comes on the radio.

If you don't believe me, here are a few scenes of people playing them at Liepegz(however you spell it).

Beat It(not good quality in terms of sound, but alright)

Hot For Teacher(This one was at E3 08. The intro is awesome though)

Rebel Yell(From GS itself:))

Now for the rock song tourney, which fits the theme of the blog(excluding the school impression:P).

The winner from the previous one was 3s and 7s. I was rooting a little for CAT, but you can't win them all.

Division 2 Match 1

Bleed it Out- Linkin Park

vs

La Grange-ZZ Top

Division 2 Match 2

My Name is Jonas- Weezer

vs

Learn to Fly- Foo Fighters

If you don't know who to vote for, just watch a little bit of the vids and choose, or just pick one. Your votes determine which song goes onto the next round!

NOTE: You must vote for one. Can't vote for neither.

Also, best commercial ever:P

Oh No

I watched it 3 times, because it keeps making me laugh.

Force Your Way Through

I've been waiting for a week for the demo of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed(the demo is out for the PS3 and 360 today). You start at the second level(the first being with Vader on Kashyyyk) and play with Starkiller(main character). Up to the end of the demo, the game moves well. Unfortunately, you don't complete your mission because the demo ends before you even get close to the target. The gameplay progresses well(I won't go in detail since you can DL the demo now. This is an impression of it). The main problem with the game/demo is the timed button pressing. I was playing on the second difficulty. While not hard, the final battle you have makes you frustrated since when the timed pressing comes up, it expects you to press it in less than a second(not exaggerating). While I still want the game, that will make me frustrated in boss fights. Other than that, it looks promising.

In other news, I start school in 4 days. I don't want to go back now.:P Too many games I want to play that I haven't beat yet.

I have started working on my game design document again(stopped to play COD4). I have also picked up Lost Odyssey again, and I'm only 2 bosses away from beating it. I'm doing most of the sidequests now(the boss ones).

That's all for now. I'm going to do the Rock Song tourney in the next blog, since I'm too lazy right now.:P It will be a double match though.

A question though: Would you like to see Guitar Hero/Rock Band series have more of a detailed storyline, or would you like it to remain the same?

Music update and possible new game

Hey guys. When I came onto GS now, I saw the new layout. I think it's cool, even though it's a little similar to Giantbomb's profile setup.

Anyways, I was surfing youtube one day and I saw the 1 thing that surprised and disappointed me at the same time. The Strokes(one of my favorite bands) and Velvet Revolver(another one of my favs) had a concert together. Where was I?! Why haven't I heard of this?! They were singing a Remones song. I also saw a video of Carrie Underwood's concert where she sung Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle. I thought it was strange, but she sung it well.

I was also watching a vid of Wierd Al parodying some rock songs(Enter Sandman was the funniest, followed by Chop Suey and Down with the Sickness), when I stumbled onto this vid:

Fresh Prince of Gotham

I might get a game either today or tomorrow. It's raining games for me.:P It's between Soul Calibur 4 or The Orange Box. I'm leaning towards the Orange Box, but I'm still not sure.

I'm also looking for a new background for my comp. I have some ideas, but the images on Google aren't good enough. Any game art sites that you know of?

Now for the Rock Song Tourney. Iron Man came back to win against Stricken.

Now for match 2

3s and 7s- Queens of the Stone Age

vs

Cruel Angel Thesis- Animetal

If you don't know who to vote for, just watch a little bit of the vids and choose, or just pick one. Your votes determine which song goes onto the next round!

NOTE: You must vote for one. Can't vote for neither.

Rank: Sargent Master Assassin. *EDIT*

Strange rank, but it sounds cool.:P I made the rank up from the two games I'm playing(or was in one's case).

I finished Assassin's Creed. Good story, but the gameplay is so broken, you don't need stealth. The ending was very cryptic and screams for sequel, but Ubisoft said that they will not make a sequel unless the sales for the game increase, which means, there will not be a sequel. If there was, it would take place in Japan.

I'm rotating between the single player of COD4 and the multiplayer. In single player, I just finished Captain Price's memory sequence. In Multiplayer, I'm level 10, which is Sargant(hence the title of the blog). I have to say that it's really fun. Yeah, I do run into jerks, but overall, it's pretty fun.If you want to play me, my gamertag is in this profile.

I also played a demo of the game Braid. If you don't know what it's about, think Super Mario brothers, but with puzzle pieces. It seems good, but the 1200 MS points($10) makes it a questionable buy, since 1600 MS points are $20(4000 points are $50). Once I get some MS points, they're going towards the COD4 maps, GH3 packs(not all), and Mass Effect DLC.

Now for the Rock Song Tourney. The start of Round 2 also!

Division 1

Match 1

Stricken- Disturbed

vs

Iron Man- Black Sabbath

If you don't know who to vote for, just watch a little bit of the vids and choose, or just pick one. Your votes determine which song goes onto the next round!

NOTE: You must vote for one. Can't vote for neither.

*EDIT*: Rereading the article, it says that Ubisoft will not publish Assassin's Creed 2 until there is more anticipation for the game.

First impression

I got Assassin's Creed and COD4 today. I started AC a few hours ago. Problem is that the game was used and it was scratched up along with a few smudges. The guy said that was the best used copy, but he gave me a 30 day warranty. I'm going to bring the game back tomorrow. In the meantime, COD4 time.:D I haven't started it yet since I was chatting with one of my friends on LIVE. He's not on GS, so you won't know him, but he's pretty cool. He just found out about adding songs to your HDD. He asked me about doing the same with movies on blank DVDs, but I didn't know(haven't tried it yet. If you know if you can do this, please tell me in the blog).

My friend is Waid19. If you have Forza 2(or Fusion Frenzy I forget:P ), or The Orange Box, you should add him. He's around my age, but he's just as mature as I.:)

In Giantbomb news, I added a few pages to the site. They accepted 2 of my original created pages(The Third Birthday and Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII). I now have 268 points.:D

Soul Calibur 4 is out. It looks good, but I'm satisfied with COD4 and AC so far. Geometry Wars 2 is also out, but I'm declining because the co-op is not online(they mislead us:().

Activision is thinking of taking out a few of their new IPs. They just might cancel Wet, and the Ghostbusters game might go to another publisher is worse come to worse.

The Rock Song Tourney will be in the next blog. This will be the start of Round 2!

I'm going to go see The Dark Knight tomorrow and The Mummy 3 Friday(maybe).

Now for the impressions:

COD4's will be in the next blog, because I haven't started it yet. Giantbomb members will see the review on my GB account, because I'm going to do one later tonight.

Assassin's Creed:

Good game so far. The gameplay mechanic is alright, but it feels like I'm holding a button down too hard to do something(if I do it lighter, it will do something else). The story is intruiging. I found it interesting that at the beginning of the disc's activation, they have a warning saying thatthe game was made by a diverse staff of different beliefs. I know why they did it, but it sounds like something you would see before watching a news channel. I'm digressing.:P The story is good. I won't spoil anything, but you are a puppet master of sorts.

Th-th-th-th-th-that's all folks!

Anyone who gets the reference first gets a super muffin.:P
