Let's step outside System Wars for a moment to take a look at the casual consumer's perception of recent Wii games:

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition

  Shocking

One game to rule them all?

At least for April.

What about April 2009,what version of Mario will be out then? I hope you're getting my point....

What about April 2009? Ask me that again in 2008 when games launching in that time period might conceivably be announced.

Do you really expect the same kind of quality on the Wii because it is a popular system ?

Nike_Air

Yes.  Software publishers always concentrate their efforts on the most popular platform.

[QUOTE="jedigemini"][QUOTE="PaintballinDude"][QUOTE="jedigemini"]

Myth #1: "In a year 360 and PS3 graphics will be so good that they will leave the Wii in the dust and nobody will care about the Wii!!!!"

Reality: If anything, it's the games that come out early in a consoles lifecycle that have the most "wow factor". Examples: Mario 64 for the N64, Metroid Prime for the GC, Halo for the Xbox, Gears of War for the 360. Sure, graphics get progressivley better throughout a consoles lifespan, but its the first batch of games that have the most "omg I must buy this new console" factor, because they are the first games on the respective console to make the next-gen leap. So if games with graphics like Motorstorm and Gears of War cant tear people away from the Wii now -- they never will.

Couple this with the fact that the kind of crowd the Wii caters to is comprised of non-gamers and casuals (people who don't particularly care), the fact that in a couple of years 360 and PS3 graphics will be dated by PC standards anyway, and the fact that every Wii game seen so far was rushed to the market on a GC dev kit and they have a lot of room to improve as well -

-- and what your left with is an argument poked so full of holes it might as well be a piece of swiss cheese.

Myth #2: "The Wii will magically stop selling because it's just a fad like Tickle me Elmo!!!"

Reality: The is no precendent for line of thinking. The Wii is nothing like Tickle me Elmo in that Tickle me Elmo is a singular product with no lifespan beyond its purchase: you buy it, you, own it, and that's it. The Wii on the other hand is a console -- something with a new games, developments, and incentives to buy it. A consoles success is something that has a snowball effect, whereas; overtime, as it becomes more successful, the console recieves more support, is given more games, and customers are given more incentive to purchase it -- not less.

The Wii is the fastest selling console of all time, a cultural phenom -- it took everybody by surprise, and now developers have been left scrambling as they are making their next gen efforts more Wii-focussed. Have you noticed all of the Wii game announcements in recent weeks? Get used to it -- this is just the tip of the iceburg.

Nintendo got smart, their consoles success no longer depends on the dwindling interest of their fanbase -- they have introduced the console to a market that will never tap out -- non-gamers, who make up the overwhelming majority of the world -- and that basic principal is why the Wii will never stop selling.

Wii purchasers may eventually get tired of the Wii and Wii sports, but the point is that because of the sweeping market that Nintendo is going after, Nintendo will never run out of potential Wii purchasers.

Myths busted.

PaintballinDude

Myth: Mythbusters Can read the future. Busted Myth: Wii doesnt need better graphics Busted Myth: TC is not a wii fan boy Busted Seirously if you need someone from A&E or G4 to back your system up. Good luck

Reality: The Wii is kicking the ever loving snot out of its competitors.

Your fanboy delusions: :"but... but in teh future it wont!"

Come talk to me in six months when no new games are out.

Super Paper Mario says "Hello".

[QUOTE="haris12121212"][QUOTE="Zerostatic0"][QUOTE="haris12121212"][QUOTE="kraidiation"]Poor Sony. Oh how the tables have turned.chicken008

Huh?... Nintendo always dominated in the handheld departement... there is no change in there... the DS follows the steps of the GBA, but even better. And you can't actually excpect to see Playstation games knowing that the Ps3 atm has pretty bad "reputation" (On the other hand Wii only has 3 games nothing huge there neither)... and the PS2 well its last gen lol... DS lite is the handheld/console to own in japan atm.

The Wii's 3 games is still more then the PS3 and it is handidly beating the PS3 in software sales, not to mention that Japan has never been this obsessed with a Nintendo Portable before. Not to mention not all that long ago the hottest console in Japan was the PS2 and many were predicting that the PSP was going to slaughter the DS. The tables have turned, there really is no other way to spin it.

Umh yeah the PS2 was the hottest console because before it was new gen. And Japan has always loved Nintendo's handhelds. (Actually this applies for worldwide also) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Advance#Sales_and_marketing . The DS lite pwns because its new, its awesome its the handheld to own... pretty much like GBA was (the most games, exclsuives and so on, the handheld to own). As for console sales its a whole different story yes, but you can't judge that right now.

You don't understand. DS software has already beat GBA software LTD in Japan. DS hardware is at about 75% of PS2 LTD already.

New Super Mario Bros. has sold nearly 4.5 million copies, becoming the best selling game of all time in Japan*.

There's nothing in Japanes console sales history to which the DS' performance in that region can be compared. Don't even try.

*excluding pokemon

Haven't the new Pokémon RPGs outsold New Mario Bros?

Footnote.

I wish the 'Halo Killer' meme would just DIE.  It's almost as annoying as "Nintendo going 3rd party??1!"

[QUOTE="Kaze_no_Mirai"][QUOTE="Berserker_2"] Nintendo are not the innocent, kid-friendly console company everyone sees. They are in the business to make money and they have maintained the status quo for the last 15 years. They never stray from their demographic. Nintendo are the current bully, despite the illusion of Miyamoto's happy smile. The Wii is the result of complacency and Nintendo fans continue to buy their products. Which comes back to my point about Sheep hypocrisy.Berserker_2

Nintendo is in the business to make money!!11?? No way... And Sony and Microsoft are in it for all the poor kids who don't have anything to eat, right. Why are they the bully... seriously, please explain and give examples.

MS, Sony, and Nintendo are all businesses. They are all legitimate, too. That's all great. God Bless them every one!

However, the Sheep have a certain culture and they refuse to see Nintendo as a business. They completely embrace Nintendo's words defending the Wii.

Here's the truth from the horse's mouth:

Iwata When did you start feeling that way? Takeda It must have been about a year after we started developing Wii. After speaking with Nintendo's development partners, I became keenly aware of the fact that there is no end to the desire of those who just want more. Give them one, they ask for two. Give them two, and next time they will ask for five instead of three. Then they want ten, thirty, a hundred, their desire growing exponentially. Giving in to this will lead us nowhere in the end. I started to feel unsure about following that path about a year into development.

After a "year of developing the Wii", they decided to use old technology. Takeda also insults the consumer by complaining about our expectations. Microsoft and Sony met our technological expectations. Why didn't Nintendo? It's too hard for Takeda to keep up, I guess.

He's talking about developer's expectations, not consumers'. If anything the Wii has consumer expectations at the forefront of its design.

Stop the generalizations about sheep.  They're unflattering, and the person that they aren't flattering is you.
