I think he main question is... wtf is it using 3.5gb of operating system ram?

At least the xbox you figure with the 3 operating systems/ the seamless switching/kinect... etc, I get it. 3gb for the OS.

Is the Sony machine similar to that?

Yes Xbox will use 3.5gb. And as I said, As operating system memory, DDr5 and DDR3 won't be a big difference at all.

Video card memory different story.
