Mine froze and did similar things for a while, couple of things later RROD... I was lucky as i got my 360 back within 10 days of it breaking (MS has great customer service :) )I was playng MW2 online when all of the sudden my screen just went black and my xbox froze, but i didnt see the red lights yet. so like an hour later I went back on my xbox and then it started freezing up either right away in the xbox guide menues or shortly after i started navigating through the game menues and it would flashg the reds lights occasionally. So, I took it apart and cleaned the gpu and the cpu and put arctic silver 5 on them, because i heard that that should do the trick but it didn't. Now i turn it on and it freezes up within about 10 seconds of being on. It's wierd though because if the ethernet cable is plugged in then it just red lights every time and doesnt even go on, but if i unplug the ethernet cable then it will at least run for a few seconds and freeze up but the lights don't come on. when it freezes it will make like a loud kind of ccsshhhh sound and then go silent and i can still see the screen but it has like a bunch of doted white lines all over. So, what should i do now? Let me know if i posted this in the wrong section, i'm not sure if i did or not.

NO! after you have opened it microsoft wont even touch your console...So today was the first time my xbox got some red lights going off. Only 2 of the lights are going off, which is supposed to be a overheating and ventilation problem. When the lights went off the xbox was cool and I called the support line and they said to send it in and I would have to pay 100 dollars.
So my question is if I take my xbox apart to try and fix it and cannot, could I still send it in after and have it fixed or be sent a refurbished one for $100

[QUOTE="sharkbiscuit79"][QUOTE="kit352"] i also recently pulled the metal sheild out from under the top part. i didnt see a need to keep the heat in further.shadow8585thats probably a heat sink they are there for a reason no I know what hes talking about. between the rear dual-fans and the white (or black if you have an elite) casing, there is a metal sheild with holes punched in. I installed my own talismoon fans and soldered them to a 9V source on the motherboard so they suck out a lot more hot air. On the site which directed me how to do that, I read that taking out the metal shield would increase air flow by 5% Yeah the heat sinks are on the motherboard over the CPU and GPU not under the casing, also by opening your console and tearing the inner microsoft sticker to do so you have voided your own warranty.... smart ;)

Do not worry about it. =P Trust me, if you are only going to play a few games, and bought an arcade, then just use a 2 gb memory unit. That is all you need. Even if later on you buy more games, get an HDD, but keep the memory unit. It always comes in handy. For games like Too Human, or Enchanted Arms, these units are your best friend. For other games, you need them to transfer updates quickly from one 360 to another. And if your 360 breaks, the memory unit helps keep the save data while you send in your console.
yaeh, demos and add ons and games and all that ill be using me ps3 for that. Anyway i just learned the 300gb HDD i got from my freind was modded (hopefully my other freind with an extra 20gb HDD wont mind giving me his) btw does the microsoft warrenty cost "extra" or do you automaticly get it when u buy a 360? Btw chouscouger i still have a few questions and whats wrong what talking to a few members for a while?
Everyone gets a 3 year warranty of NO charge, i think all E74 codes are fixed for free irrelevent of how long you have had your console... Also there is nothing wrong with talking to other members..... some people are just unsociable. :)no 'duh' to you as this guy isn't getting a f*cking hard drive so read the thread before you start posting retarded comments.save nxe to your hard drive duh

I dont think it is bannable due to the fact that your HDD or the console itself has no connections to xbl only modding multiplayer games or ones that have any use for xbl will give you a ban. But by modding a console you do void your warranty and the ability to send it into ms for repairs even ones that require payment.
It doesnt, its all about preferences, some people prefer external to save gamertags on to use when playing on other xboxes. it is also better if your 360 breaks so you do not have to go throught the redeem gamertag process and lose game saves....
No problem! glad to help and see you on xbl ;)
