Seriously, Yoichi Wada has no business being involved in any aspect of the video game industry after what happened to Square-Enix under his watch. The fact that he is now Chairman suggests that Square-Enix will not be making the changes they so desperately need to make to return the company to greatness.
Are they still talking about this in Washington? The Supreme Court has made it clear where they stand on interactive media. It's protected free speech. A more productive discussion would be how to better detect dangerous behavior in people and how best to limit their access to deadly weapons. Any number of things could make a disturbed person snap; poor family life, losing a job, breaking up. Should we then ban families, jobs, and relationships for being a potential trigger for violent behavior? Banning media is no less ridiculous.
@lulababy I don't agree. There are still storytelling opportunities in the Halo universe. The day they release a truly bad installment is the day the series should be wound down.
According to the official Sony support site, they have identified the issue with 4.45 and are working on a fix. They plan on releasing the firmware update on June 27th.
So why is this happening now, months after release of the game? Any legal issues should have come to the fore when this game was announced.
Taking the game down seems like a drastic step to me, which means an agreeable solution is not at all likely. Can they even work on the game in-house, or is the company effectively frozen?
Have to say, this news came as something of a surprise. I thought Microsoft was committed to their restrictive policies. Does this mean their console's architecture is easily adaptable, or will they have to delay launch of the X-Box One to make the changes?
In any case, Microsoft had to learn the hard way that forcing undesirable circumstances on consumers in a competitive marketplace is a business no-no. Sony made them look very foolish. I have to wonder if heads are rolling in Redmond over this debacle. How could they have so totally misread what consumers were willing to accept in a new console?
