Dude, haven't you heard? Graphics are the primary factor to deciding whether a game is 'good' or not these days. If the graphics are bad, then the game can be revolutionary or damned fun for all we care, but no-one will play it.

(Pessimism aside, I look forward to the finished result. I've heard a LOT of good previews about Crysis, and hope it can live up to the excessive hype).

I'm not going to make overly optimistic judgements about games that haven't even been released yet. And it's too early to decide the best game of 'this gen' or 'this year', when either have hardly even started. As for last gen, though? Oblivion is unquestionably great, the GTA series practically defined 'sandbox' gaming. The MGS series was renowned for excellent (yet in some cases confusing) storyline and intuitive gaming. (all in my opinion, mind you)

What do you/people expect me to say though? That Halo 3/(insert title of other excessively hyped game) will be the best game of this year/gen just because it's Halo/(name of franchise)? I guess we'll have to wait and see. Is patience and a subjective mindset really that difficult to adhere to? :|

Who can prediect such a thing? The 'next gen' after this one starts when one or more major players in the console 'war' release a profoundly more 'powerful' console that takes things to the 'next level' (ie. has a higher standard of graphics. Seriously, that's all that 'next gen' appears to be so far, IMHO)

Well, I think a few FMV's here and there won't hurt a game much, but personally I hope that a dev puts more emphasis on gameplay over graphics with this supposedly 'new and improved' hardware. Mind you, that's almost career suicide these days considering how important graphics seem to be in the public and critical eye. -__- (goes back to playing Gunstar Heroes on the Genesis)

Though my opinion's far from original, I'd have to go with MGS3's ending. Not even FF7's 'huge twist' surprised or touched me as much as that sequence. Shadow of the Colossus had an excellent ending also but for different reasons, left things very open to interpretation as well as leaving a profound sense of closure. Both games are bloody awesome in their own right, anyways,

Well, out of the two you're asking, I don't know either of them, sorry. As for recommendations, are you asking for any particular genre, or just excellent games in general?

Depends on the boss/level. Gunslinger, for instance, would be a VERY bad idea against Vergil (particularly on DMC mode), whereas it would be quite useful against generic Hell enemies. Royal Guard is overall the best style IMHO, but being able to use it to its full potential requires flawless timing and reflexes (particularly in this game), something which is beyond most gamers (including myself :()
