The N3ws blog: PS3 Firmware update (v2.00)

Finally, the 2.00 firmware update will arrive tommorow.

Here's the complete 2.00 breakdown:

Remote Start - Energy savings: no need to leave your PS3 on all day while you periodically access it with your PSP during coffee breaks.

Information Board - Scrolling headlines, handpicked by Sony for Sony. (Thankfully, you can disable the ticker until a later update, when Sony plans to let you import your own RSS feeds.)

Themes - Create. Share. Love.

XMB Color Selector - Take control of the mood.

Music & Photo Playlists - But no Music-Photo playlists.

Additional Sorting Options - Now you can sort your music ... (ready for this?) ... by year!

DualShock 3 support - A "last-gen" feature renewed (without a US release date).

PLAYSTATION Network XMB group - Attention: PlayStation Store has moved to a new icon.

Canon printer support - 'Cause even game consoles need to print things

Source.

Yup, that's it. Think what you want, but I'm thinking about writing an editorial. There are some core features still missing.

The N3ws blog: (Rumor) New character in SSBB - Krystal?

A listing on voice actress Alesia Glidewell's online resume hints that Krystal, who debuted in the "much loved" Star Fox Adventures, will make an appearance in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Glidewell lists among her credentials for video game voice over and motion capture three characters from the upcoming game: Krystal, Knuckle Joe, and Zero Suit Samus.

These are her credentials from her own website: Look carefully.

Remember these are voice acting credentials and this means that she could be as much as an assist throphy, a stage-centric distraction, a cameo in the single player storyline, or even a fully-fledged playable character. Then again, Krystal might've been cut entirely, or the resume is simply mistaken.

Right??

UPDATE: It seems that she took it down after they discovered it. Hmmm...

The N3ws blog: Super Mario Galaxy first review (Famitsu)

Is Super Mario Galaxy as good as we all expect (and hope)?

Yes, according to Famitsu, who've scored the game a whopping 38/40 in the latest issue. The four reviewers of the Japanese publication gave it 10, 9, 9, 10, paying special tribute to how well the game uses the Wii Remote.

It's also apparently a fairly decent length too, which settles our fears of a six-hour rush job.

It's November 16 release means there's not long to wait. But one lucky git doesn't have to; there are copies of Nintendo's masterpiece floating around in American retail stores and one employee is already flashing the goods around on the internet.

Lucky bastard:P.

The N3ws blog: Xbox "Home" on the way?

According to reports, Microsoft E&D GM Daniel Schiappa has hinted that a PlayStation Home-like virtual world will be coming to Xbox 360 within the next year.

According to Team Xbox, the Entertainment and Devices(E&D) boss turned up on stage at the Virtual Worlds Conference And Expo in San Jose and stated: "...by next year, you'll probably know more about why I'm up here."

"I think they've definitely taken some concepts that we originated like achievements, but I think they're pushing in a different direction and we've sort of fundamentally got two different approaches going on here," he said.

"It's a cool world but it's like a little game by itself. Our approach is the other way around; it's that games are the center and that's the star of the show, that's what people buy the console for."

Yup, no copying here, it's all good >_>.

The N3ws blog: China Universities ban PC's, No Wii price drop this Christmas.

Nintendo Co expects to keep its Wii video game console priced at $249 for the time being since it is selling all of the units it makes, a senior U.S. executive said on Thursday.

"We'll stay at $249 for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make," said George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing at Nintendo America.

In other news, to prevent students from playing too many video games, some universities have banned freshmen from owning computers - stirring up quite a controversy in the process. They said the measure will help freshmen avoid becoming addicted to computer games.

"At Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei Province, no freshmen including, those who major in computer science, are allowed to own computers. The school shut down the freshmen dormitory network, and, freshmen are not allowed to log onto the Internet without permission.

China is home to 30 million online gamers, many of them college students. Addiction to online games has been found to affect undergraduates' ability to learn, causing headaches for many schools."

Is banning computers really the answer?

That's all for this edition.

The N3ws blog: Sonic in Brawl and motorcycles in .....Mario Kart?

Unless you've been hiding under a stone you probably couldn't have missed this.

The one whose Smash appearance has been most desired dashes in from far away at supersonic speed. Sonic the Hedgehog crashes headlong into battle!

At the same conference where Nintendo confirmed Sonic as a playable Smash Bros. character, the company also announced that Mario Kart Wii will include motorcycles when it ships next year. While there's no other information about the new Mario Kart vehicle type, we know that Wario already has his own set of two wheels, as pictured below. It'll be interesting to see which characters can ride on two wheels or if it'll be available to one and all.

Unfortunately, no one is going to find out very soon, as the game has been delayed from early 2008 to Spring 2008. At least Nintendo gave gamers something to look forward to in the way of motorcycles and then reconfirmed that the steering wheel accessory will come with the game.

As much as I don't agree with their decision in introducing motorcycles, the series does need some kind of innnovation without affecting the key formula. This is the best way to do it.

That's all for this news blog.

Riviera: The Promised Land (Boss fights.)

What's up everyone?

For the last two/three weeks, next to pokemon, I've been re-playing another RPG. This one is for the GBA, namely Riviera The Promised land (This game has also been remade for the PSP btw). I've taped (almost) all the boss fights and I've uploaded some of them.

This game was very different from the traditional RPG where you get the free roaming/exploring features. Instead it guides you through the storyline in the form of chapters.

Speaking of chapters, here are the final bosses from the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th chapter. If you are a RPG fan like me, you'll definitely enjoy these battles:).

Chapter 3:

Chapter 4:

Chapter 5:

Chapter 6:

In my next update I'll upload the final chapter in different parts and
I'll also reveal the enemy in the bonus chapter
.

Gamespot Player's Ball is two hours away:D. See you guys in the chat!

World's oldest Halo 3 player found!

This one just threw the Big N's philosophy right out the window:P.

Dean Takahasi of The San Jose Mercury News (and recent panelist on the Joystiq Podcast Roundtable) has apparently found the world's oldest person playing Halo 3, and it looks like that honor falls to a 95-year-old Japanese grandmother.

Sure, her gaming skillz look a bit weak, but we've seen younger players do just as poorly the first few times they played. We wonder if she's gaming online at all, because she dishes out some smack talk to the TV at one point ... at least, we assume it's smack. Plus she might want to sit a bit further back or else she'll need glasses. Oh, wait.

PS: Two blogs in one day:D. (teh shame)

Can you tell the difference between GT5 and real life?

The graphical line separating video games and real life has been getting thinner and thinner with each passing console generation, and the Gran Turismo series always seems to be the one leading the charge.

Harnessing the PlayStation 3's graphical power, Gran Turismo 5 features the most realistic graphics to date. So real, in fact, that many people can't tell the difference between an image from GT5 and its real-life counterpart.

To prove this, a Neo GAF forum member created a quiz featuring screens from GT5 and GT5 Prologue that will have you staring inches away from your monitor trying to discern the difference.

Take the quiz, and see how you do!

You can get a total of 15 points. The only downside is that they won't tell you which one you did wrong if you get less than 15.

Let me know how much you got:P!

Pokemon battle!

Sup everyone?

I've managed to create a decent team and I'm currently looking for challengers:D!

My FC is 2148-4882-4938. Name: Jerell.

I've been looking for a battle on the gamefaqs battling forum but it's filled with people who are playing with weird rules (clauses): "Can't put pokemon to sleep, can't use double team, can't this can't that:|."

I love to battle the old fashion way. My rules are simple: 1.No hacks and 2. pokemon that are allowed in the battle tower can be used. Easy right?

PM me or add me on AIM.
