Thx for all the helpful replies. I'll answer some of the questions that have been asked.

He can read a bit and is great at memorization. Fate is super easy once you get it and reading beyond a few key words is not needed to play. In HOMMIV I can tell him what the goal is of the scenario he's playing. The rest of the reading is just fluff. Once he learns what a spell or weapon or magic item does, he never forgets - if he sees a new one he asks us. Of course he doesn't play it like an adult would but he can get around and win the simpler scenarios. He can read enough to understand all the attributes (once you know 10 or 20 words by sight you got it) and he's super with the math.

It's the games like Baldur's gate where you absolutely have to read and comprehend dialog in order to play the game that are hard.

I guess by 'evil' I didn't mean demons and devils I meant anything raunchy, mean/torturing/demeaning, pointless graphic violence or vulgarity, etc. He does like the challenge and seriousness of games targeted for teens/adults.

I've seen the Titan's quest demo, he is able to play that one so maybe I'll buy the game.

I'll look at the other suggestions too. Any more?

titan quest is a great game, and all the characters are voice acted (and it's certainly not necessary to follow the story to play and enjoy the game); you should definitely get it. if he likes the hom&m series, he'll probably like age of wonders 1 & 2 (a turn-based strategy game as well). you might have a hard time locating them for a decent price though. and warcraft 3 might not be a bad idea either.

Looks like my E8400/HD4850 budget machine will do pretty well. Too bad I need to finish Fallout 3 first. Or do I...zaphod_b

eh? far cry 2 is released before fallout 3.

The game apparently scales very well with Quad core systems.

Thats a big bonus for all you quad users.

yay~! though now that i look at the benchmark results, it doesn't seem like having a quad core helps all that much. i mean, the e8400 seems like the best value of the lot. great price for the second best cpu among those tested. :|

aha, yes. jade is indeed a hot number. i bought ass creed thinking that if i bought the game, somehow she'd take notice and be pleased with me. :D she never did respond to my purchase of the game though and all i got out of it was a crappy game. :(
