I'd urge you (OP) to hold fire and get a PS4 if that's the console you really want. I have no doubt Capcom will announce SFV at some point in the not too distant future. From what I've seen so far Killer Instinct, though a solid looking effort, is really similar to SFIV. If you haven't played SFIV then you should consider purchasing SSFIVAE. Another point to consider is that the pricing structure of Killer Instinct hasn't been announced yet. It's a free-to-play game that comes initially with two fighters. You have to pay for the rest. We don't know what else has to be bought and what comes with the free download.

I'm switching over to the PS4. I had a PS1 and PS2 but Alan Wake swng me over to an XBox 360 in favour of the PS3. The two reasons are that Sony has more games that interest me and the XBox One prevents games rental. That is a killer for me. To be honest though it was the Alan Wake series getting dropped that initially severed my connection to the XBox brand.

Of course this entire theory rides on the belief that XBox One releases will bring in more money than their PS4 counterparts as a result of these restrictions. Something I think is highly unlikely. I'd say that linking the sales often seen on Steam to DRM is questionable. I'm more inclined to believe that Steam has these offers in order to sell products that people aren't buying in satisfactory numbers. Supermarkets do it all the time.

You can't surely think preventing game rental and preventing people from lending games to friends is a positive step forward?

Personally I'd say Alan Wake and Forza 4 are the main reasons you might consider getting an XBox 360. There's no other exclusives on it that I'd consider to be compelling. Of course Alan Wake can be bought for the PC so that leaves Forza 4. I can't say that I'd buy a console for one game but Turn 10 are a fantastic developer and Forza 4 is a brilliant racing game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the XBox One needs to connect to the internet on a daily basis in order to function. If I'm having money trouble and have to cancel my internet then I can't play my XBox One at all, even though I own it. Games are not cheap so I object to any policy that restricts any kind of lawful usage. My personal policy when it comes to how I play games is that I'll gladly pay for a game I know I'll love, irrespective of factors such as replayability and length. I support the art/entertainment that I love as far as my budget allows but being able to rent games is important for me. However the XBox One does not allow game rental. I don't endorse piracy and my conscience is clear. So boycotting the XBox One is a perfectly reasonable stance for people such as myself. It's unacceptable to take action against all gamers when only a minority are the target. A different solution is needed to combat piracy. I disagree with the OP's assertion that developers will show their support for MS's policies by favoring the XBox One. I don't think these measures will result in a higher profit for XBox One games versus their PS4 counterparts.
