I found this news article interesting (since I'm Australian) as it reports that Aussie gamers believe that PS3 will end up the number 1 console this gen again with over 100 million sales, just like the PS2.
Obviously it's pure speculation, but it is interesting nonetheless. Keep in mind PS2/DS is still by far the best selling combo down here. PS3/360/Wii are not selling extremely well, and it's basically because they're simply too expensive atm.
I picked out the main parts of the article:
A survey was taken of over 3,000 Australian gamers on whether or not they believe that Sony and the PlayStation 3 will eventually rule over the Microsoft Xbox 360 just as they did last generation with the PlayStation 2 over the Xbox. The survey and report makes the point that Sony should end up selling more than 100 million of the PlayStation 3 consoles before it is all said and done.
They also found that many people believe that the PS3 will be a success even though Microsoft and Nintendo have built an early lead over the Sony next-generation platform.
Sony was the preferred console of choice to 40% of gamers in 2006 for Australia and in 2007 that has only dropped to 39%.

Thoughts? Opinions? Rants?
Are us Aussies totally wrong or are we onto something here? I personally agree with them although I suspect PS3 numbers will be 80 million +, not 100 million +.
the-very-best
thats a good read. as always you post the best topics.
i think most people are starting to realize the potential is closer to reality then before. with games like lair, ninja gaiden, warhawk, heavenly sword, all on the horizon in the next couple of months. I think HOME and LittleBigPlanet really suprised critics and consumers alike of how fast the sony playstation brand can redeem itself.
This is my opinion, and generally my opinion turns out to be fact ( = lol.
