And it wasn't a response to gain consumers, it was a responce to not lose any. You really think They did it to be nice? Ok, so Microsoft isn't greedy either, They were just giving out 3 year warrantys to be nice ;)
The point is that Sony didn't have to do it but those 3 years warranties of MS are forced. Early Xbox were really unrealiable and MS got into a couple of lawsuits that forced them to extend those warranties... In fact, I remember MS executives saying that the RRoD was a myth, and they even try to fight back the lawsuits because they didn't want to put so much money toward fixing their mess.
I'm sure you have plenty of plausible links to back these claims up and note, random forum posts are not plausible links...
