As someone who actually read the article, obvious a lot of these commenters haven't, I'd be petrified if I was an indie dev. Especially if Valve settles on the higher level fee. That'd be rough on the smallest of teams.
@ratchet989: Frankly it's just another thing that shows how rushed to market this system is. Their new fee based online service? Not ready for launch and so it's coming later. Apps that have been standard features on consoles from the last gen, even Nintendo's own things? Not ready for launch. It makes it look like it's being rushed out the door in early March because they know that's a relatively inactive time on the games calendar compared to the traditional Holiday launch window and they don't have confidence that the thing, even if feature complete, could thrive in the crucible of the winter shopping season. Given what they have shown us of the lineup for the year thus far I feel that's not much of a reach.
Besides that, the thing is a freaking tablet . I'd say that having tablet basic apps like Netflix and such is rather important if you're trying to convince people (regardless of age) to carry this thing around in their messenger bag that it's going to be competing for space with other tablets in. It'll never have the depth and breadth of app support like an Android tablet or Ipad, but some video streaming is pretty much the most basic entertainment thing you can include on these and even something that bedrock isn't ready for launch? How are they making such a mess of something so simple?
Still gonna grab one myself when Mario comes out, but it sure feels like everything about this system is a rush job.
@savagerodent: There's no need to put lipstick on the pig. Streaming apps have become a standard with modern devices. It's not some huge deal as I'm sure they will be there shortly, but the whole "it's a gaming device" argument is just excusing carelessness at this point.
After the reaction to Watchdogs 1, I'm not surprised the sequel didn't set the world on fire. There was gonna be a backlash after the last game got so much hype and failed to deliver the goods.
@forester057: Yeah, the Flint water crisis is obviously a work of fiction. Those dead people? Not real. The state of Alabama closing down DMVs in all counties where African Americans make up more than 75% of registered voters? Not real. The conservative VP candidate aiding the passage of a law that allows discrimination based in the name of god? Apparently not real to you. The Alabama situation also puts more of a burden on the disabled, but I'm sure you dislike them since they are a drain on the system right? You say we live in a post racism world? We have a state that still has the freaking confederate flag as part of its state flag. That symbol of treason and hatred that is so celebrated by the wingnut culture. Ridiculous. But yeah, go ahead and vote for people like that while still telling yourself that you're somehow a decent person.
