we were all casuals and non gamers once. it's not like use tastes stay that way forever. devs know this too.

true we may have been casuals at ome point but none of the games...at least in my gen which is the nes gen...were like wii sports or big brain academy and games of that nature. it was mario and zelda, sonic final fantasy...and because of that i am a hardcore gamer today. but casual gamers of this gen are going to continue to want games like wii sports simple and fun. while i would enjoy that once in a while its not enough to hold my attention. theres no drive to make me want to play wii sports for a whole night whereas a game like say God of War or Halo will keep me wanting to push throught the story.

Did you read what your wrote? Back in the NES days all games were "simple and fun". And you are saying you became a hardcore gamer because of that. Nintendo is now returning to the "simple and fun" days. The Nes is Nintendo's highest selling console and one of the main reasons is because it was "simple and fun" and they are attempting to emulate the NES's success witha similar approach. You can't claim that what they are doing is bad then say they should be doing the exact same thing you are saying is bad.

The games like Mario Zelda and Final Fantasy evolved into hardcore games through each generation and you followed them. A lot of people didnt follow them though. That is why console sales have been steadily decreasing. Nintendo may be going back to the simple days and catering for the casuals but they are certainly not going to abandon their loyal hardcore fanbase and neither will Microsoft or Sony.

Re-read my statement i said wii games are simple and fun...whereas games like super mario were fun games but they werent games like wii sports which are very simple

Games dont get much more simple than NES games im affraid. So what you are saying is blatantly wrong. You must have a very obscure view on the matter if you find games like Wii sports and say for example Elebits are simple compared to games like the original Mario.

To Lasden

i understand what you are saying but thats just my point...my thought is that hardcore games will be pushed back and we will see more games like wii sports and guitar hero not that those arent good games but look at the wii's line up. i mean sure there are good games in there metroid, smg, ssbb, but compared to the 360 or ps3 lineup we can see where the developer attention is going to...

kamuix

The hardcore games wont be pushed back. The same amount of hardcore games will remain. It might even grow. With the influx of casuals to the industry Companies will be wanting to make more games to make more money. This means more video game developers will be hired. With more staff they will be able to shift extra focus to these casual games while still keeping others to make the hardcore games.Companies are about making money after all and will continue making games for a market that will make them money.

If there is a market fro something there will be a product for it. More casuals being drawn to this industry will not make the market for "hardcore" games weaken. Therefore whether or not Nintendo succeeds they and other companies will still cater for a hardcore crowed aswell as the casual crowed. There will be more casual games yes but hardcore games will also remain available on the shelf.

Just seemes to make sense to me. I think that Microsoft screwed current 360 owners with the Elite. I know I'd be pissed as s**t. Anyways, isn't this more good then bad. People now don't have to toss over wondering which system to get like I did.Rhaxdric

People dont have to toss over wondering which system to get? You mean they get forced to get the one that makes Sony more money.

Graphics catches your attention, but gameplay keeps your attention.

So many games I wanted to play because it looked good graphically, but then seen its gameplay for the final build and realized the game is not for me. Sheep should agree to because their most hype games actually are the best graphical games on the wii.

A good example of this was wreckless for the xbox. It was awesome looking, but once I played it I got bored of it quick.

SO yes gameplay> than graphics, but graphics is what most gamers look for first, and hope the gameplay can match up with the graphics.

too_much_eslim

In some but not all cases you would b correct.
