I saw some articles which say buy a X1950 rather than 8600GT and 8600GT cant even run DX10 games on max over 10FPS

Yea I tried the Call of Juarez demo on my laptop and it cant cross 9 fps

If your a hardcore gamer you dont need an 8800-the higher end DX9 cards will be fine until the middle of next year-my X1900 runs Bioshock on high at 1280x1024. Buy the 1950 cheaply, then upgrade next year to one of the new Nvidia cards.

If you dont want to have to upgrade in the next year or two, you will need an 8800gtx, so unless you can afford that the X1950 is the way to go!

But my Dell PSU is too weak for that and there is no space for dual slot cards because the cpu fan is too big

Definately the X1950PRO. The 8600 doesnt perform well enough in DX10 games to warrant buying it for that, and it is outperformed by the 1950 in DX9.manic111

I dont need DX10 but 8600 GTS is a DX10 card so it should be faster in dx9 right?
