I don't know if it really fits into the action adventure category, but I would really suggest playing Daxter. It was developed by Ready At Dawn, the same people who brought us God of War:CoO. Definitely worth playing.
I've heard good things about Jeanne D'arc, though I haven't played it. I have, however, played Crisis Core. I love that game and cannot praise it enough. It is a must buy. However, if you are looking for a game that will last all summer, look elsewhere. I beat this game in less than a week.
I found Sins to be too slow for my taste. While I'm sure opinions differ, for me the fun of an RTS comes from commanding large armies on the field of battle. I like a fast paced thrill. For me, Dawn of War is just that. Personally, I'd go with DoW.
It's not that a game NEEDS to have gore. But I am completely opposed to the idea of censoring a game that intended to have gore. I'm not quite sure I see what your asking but if you mean 'should there be no gore on the PC' then my answer would certainly be no.
