I just recently put together a new PC after my 4-year old machine was gasping it's last breath. My previous PC had a GeForce 6800GT that was giving me headaches. While gaming, I noticed many artifacts on games that weren't even that taxing. Lots of screen tearing, geographic anomolies, screen flickering, and missing textures. I always suspected it had something to do with overheating.
Anyway, I moved my old hardware into another case so I could use my good case for my new PC. While uninstalling the hardware, I noticed a huge build-up of dust and hair on the GPU'S heatsink fan. I removed it all and booted my PC just to see if everything was installed correctly. I loaded F.E.A.R--a game that caused all sorts of problems with my GPU. It was amazing how night and day the performance was. The video qauilty was perfect and the game ran at blistering framerates. All this time I could not play games and all I had to do was blow into my GPU fan.
Problem solved. Here are the intructions I used: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1974-YFKL-4947
Now all I need is to figure out how to get the damn Quicktime progress bar to show up during videos.
