Part of what the man is saying is correct, but console games are so ridiculously superior that they could sell them on cassette and I would still prefer them over (e.g.) iPad games.
Thank you! Finally someone not caught in endless complaining. The game was epic and I enjoyed it greatly. Yes, they could have ended it better and EA probably influences Bioware in a bad way, but I also see Bioware communicating with fans and trying to resolve issues. At least they're trying and I feel they deserve some slack after all the great hours of gaming they provided.
I still think complaining is good though, it keeps developers on edge, but the reaction to ME3 was ridiculous. Many gamers take themselves way to seriously....
Let's look on the bright side, it is a great forum for smaller up-and-coming game studios to show what they can do. Considering all the critique on the bigger companies at the moment, I feel it is actually a good point that smaller companies get some room to.
Now it's up to Gamespot and others to give them a chance to.
@david1230 That's definitely something to worry about. I feel a lot of games (and other products) have lost their heart to commerce over the past decade and I agree that this should be stopped. This should solve itself if the people stop buying products from a company, it will force the company to reconsider its approach. If they are confident about their creativity, they will keep going until they get it right. If they purposefully play customers, they will adapt to the demands.
Side Note: I lost faith in EA a couple of years ago, they're the first and worst 'soul consumer ' in the business if you ask me.
To summarize:
- Please keep complaining and stay skeptical, but also take action and refuse to but products from companies that keep cutting corners.
@david1230 It's not that you are not making a valid point about the ending, because there are some good points in these articles. You are entitled to you opinion and you should voice it whenever you feel like it. I just dislike the way in which many gamers 'demand' changes to the ending. I feel that an artist (or a company for that matter) is entitled to create their own vision and should not change it based on popular demand. Even if the changed version would be better.
In addition I think the amount and the nature of the ' negative feedback' is ridiculous. The game has a special place in my memory as well, but there are more important things in life than the ending of Mass Effect.
The fuss about the Mass Effect ending still surprises me, as does the feeling of entitlement from gamers regarding the ending. I don't think changing the ending of finished products is a good thing, but I'm not opposed to changing things in future games.
I do feel that you should not (always) listen to your customers, you should stick with your own ideas and take the risks. Innovators are often misunderstood in the beginning.
