Developed by the Digi-Guys, Wardevil is a new 3rd person action/sci-fi title exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Since its last showing, the team at Digi-Guys have been pretty quiet on the game's advancements. We know the game uses a new and sophisticated gaming engine called RTE1080 (real time engine) which allows for 1080p resolution at 60fps. Digi-Guys have stated that they hope to create a visual ****that surpasses the look and feel of pre-rendered FMV sequences.

Here is the first look at Wardevil Unleash the Beast Within

As you can see the team has revamped the graphical look of the game, recreating the character giving him a helmet rather than light grey hair. Also you can see that he carries a long spear-like weapon as well as his pistol seen from past tech demos.

This is all the information we have now, but stay tuned as PSU will keep you updated when more details are available.

Ubisoft pins down firm date for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Ubisoft has today revealed that its upcoming sequel, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, is to be released on March 21. The game had previously been confirmed for release during March, although no firm date had been announced.

Fans of RB6 Vegas should have a pretty good idea of what to expect, only now we're promised enhanced player customisation - your character can be used both on and offline - and improved enemy AI.

Check back on Friday for our hands-on impressions with the game.

Capcom US has responded to CVG's report yesterday that PS3 Devil May Cry 4 forces gamers to sit through a mandatory 21 minute install time - with little improvement to load times there after.

Just to be sure, we timed the 5GB install process (which you can't opt-out of) on our PS3 retail version and it clocked in at 21 minutes, 41 seconds.

After installation, we timed DMC4's load times to be only one or two seconds shy of those in the 360 counterpart. Hardly worth sitting through 21 minutes of concept art, then.

Advertisement:Capcom community man Chris Kramer disagrees: "It's true: the first time you drop your DMC4 Blu-ray disc into your PS3 tray, you're going to be treated to an exciting 22 - 25 minute load process as the disc spins a few gigs of data onto your hard drive," he admits.

"If you don't want to watch the 'Previously, on Devil May Cry...' portion of the install process, go make a sandwich and grab a soda, then come on back," Kramer joked. "You're going to be spending some serious time with this game, and we don't want you going hungry. Low blood sugar will make you dizzy and you'll need to be focused like an Alan Parsons Project to defeat the enemies in this game.

"Wah! Have you ever played a PC game? At least we aren't making you shuffle multiple discs into a ROM drive, or continuously click 'Yes!' on a series of endless Windows dialog boxes," the Capcom man continues, possibly shuffling the install-less yet basically identical 360 version out of view.

"Installing on a console may seem like a weird idea, but there's a real benefit," says Kramer.

"Once installed," he claims, "the PS3 version of the game has near-Super Nintendo speed load times. You'll be amazed how fast levels load, the virtually instantaneous transition from cut scenes to action and that you're continuously playing the game."

We're a good few hours into both versions and the load times on the PS3 version are a few seconds shorter than the 360 cousin at best. They're definitely no way near "Super Nintendo speed".

DMC4 is out on Friday. And it'll cost you an extra £10 on PS3. Check online stores for the best deal. Either way, it's still a great game - look out for the review tomorrow.

Trawling the CES show last month, we happened across a rather juicy piece of gadget gossip.

According to a particularly well-informed insider, it seems that the Big S is prepping an all new PlayStation 3. The new incarnation is supposedly slimmer, lighter weight, and sexy as hell.

It's not as if Sony haven't got a history of making things slimmer and, er, lighter: The PSP shed a lot of its weight last summer, the original PlayStation ended up as the minuscule PSOne, and the PlayStation 2 re-incarnated as the PSTwo, which was an all-round sexier piece of kit to boot. Roll on PSThree?

Specs-wise, we're probably looking at the same machine with stacks of space and the trusty Blu-Ray player on board. The new PS3 is a proper looker: if it's anything like the illustration our team of designers have come up with, then we're looking at one hell of a sexy piece of kit.

We wouldn't be at all shocked if the much-touted 160GB PS3 is in fact this slimmed down puppy.

Sony has peddled their usual line of 'not commenting on rumours and speculation', but that is exactly what they said before they dropped the size zero edition of the PSP.

For now, that's all we have. But rest assured we'll be pounding the phones and keeping our ears pricked for any news as soon as we get it.

Like the pictures we've got here? Then you'll love the ones we've got in T3 magazine. This little beastie looks a hell of a lot better in full, glorious, glossy high-definition print than on a pesky computer screen!

Saints Row 2

A few updates on GTAIV combatant Saints Row 2

News of GTAIV being delayed till, eventually, April 29 was music to the ears of Saints Row developer Volition. It decided to fill the gaping void of pimpery and larceny by hastily announcing the sequel to its gangster-based open-world game.

The real crime here is that many people still dismiss the original Saints Row as having no personality of its own. In fact, the game unfurled more and more original features the more you played it. We still revisit Stilwater from time to time for a few rounds of the body-flinging 'Insurance Fraud' mini-game. Also, you can't beat calling on the aid of finger-licking good 'Chicken Ned' to help you beat the crap out of the Vice Kings.

Saints Row ended with a pretty bleak outcome for the central characters, so we're looking forward to finding out if any of them will make a return. We know for sure that it's a direct continuation of events but set a full decade and a half later. According to Volition: 'There's a much darker and more sinister story that leads your character down a path of betrayal, revenge and redemption against the city that has left him for dead.'

Fifteen years have passed and the city has seen some changes. The level of detail has been significantly improved and pop-up also consigned to Stilwater's distant past. From our first-look at the game, we can already see that Volition can cope with the challenge of creating brilliant-looking, open-world environments.

Addressing some complaints about the first title, you'll now be able to play as a female gangster and the customisation options will be much greater. Rather than play as one of the three gangs from the original, you'll be able to create an original syndicate from scratch, and create a unique look for your members.

We've been doing a bit of digging and from the cast list it appears as if the types of gangs you'll encounter are going to be a lot more varied, too. One actor is listed as a 'voodoo gang leader' and another as 'Ronin' which suggests there'll be a Japanese gang. At present, none of the main cast members have been revealed, but Volition has claimed it's going to be announcing some big-name stars closer to release. You can also expect to hear an even more impressive soundtrack than before, with music that might reach out further than the original's hip-hop roots.

While Volition has a tall order to win over GTAIV fans, Saints Row 2 isn't due out until many months after Rockstar's game. We're hoping this will give Volition plenty of time to make this one a significant rival to the kingpin of crime.

Speaking of GTAIV, if you are a fan of this series then definitely make sure you check out our huge exclusive feature on this monumental release.

Virtual Life Sony Nears Launch of Own 3D World

John Gaudiosi, Special to WRAL LTW

MONTE CARLO, Monaco - Tired of Second Life - or want a better online 3D world experience?

Sony may offer that alternative world later this spring with its "Home" destination for PlayStation 3.

"Home is a cross between private chat rooms, MySpace, YouTube and online gaming," explained Ron Festejo, creative director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, in an interview. "If you've ever tried Second Life, you can immediately see how much richer this world is and how accessible it is."

The Sony Europe group has been spearheading the software behind "Home." The free PlayStation 3 virtual community will launch as a download. The creators of this new 3D universe were on hand at the Imagina conference last week to give attendees a sneak peak at the brand new, modified hub running online with thousands of beta testers inhabiting the world.

Microsoft has accrued 10 million online subscribers for its Xbox Live service, which comes free as a basic service with every Xbox 360 but requires a $50 annual subscription to play online games. Sony, however, is going in a different direction with PS3. Anyone who has used Xbox Live knows that the service is a great way to jump into an online game, but the 2D interface is not built for stickiness in the generic lobbies.

In contrast, Sony has constructed a living, breathing world that gamers will enter before connecting with others online to play games. In addition to being able to play six-player bowling in the bowling alley and ****c games in the arcade, there will also be offerings like billiards, chess and checkers for gamers to socialize over.

A movie theater that features 10 screens to watch movie trailers and game previews also will be available at launch.

Soon after the rollout, Sony is expected to offer a video store where gamers will be able to rent full-length features that can be downloaded to their hard drives. Sony is also expected to offer music and TV programming through Home.

New Home Shows Evolution from Early Roots

The Home world that was shown in Monte Carlo is completely different than the one first shown at the Game Developer's Conference last year. Gone are the claustrophobic indoor spaces and the doors that lead to badly marked areas like the arcade. Now players are transported to a vibrant outdoor town square with huge buildings that clearly illustrate what there is to do.

The movie theater has two floors for further expansion beyond the initial 10 screens. The bowling alley offers the virtual bowling and arcade. Within the town square, underneath some trees, are the chess and checkers tables. The games will be a great way for players to break the ice when meeting new friends in Home, according to Festejo.

"When building this new town square, we were heavily influenced by cities like Las Vegas, the Sony Center in Berlin and New York City's Times Square," said Festejo. "This world is friendly and open and encourages players to mingle."

Upon entering Home, players will use a virtual PS3 avatar for everything inside the world. Customizing one's avatar and apartment will be as easy as clicking through the PS3 option menu.

While Sony is offering Home for free, it will have several business models built into it. Players will be able to decorate their own apartment with furniture and an assortment of technology, including Sony Bravia TVs. Many of these items will be purchased with real credit cards through micro-transactions. Players will be able to create their personalized avatar to the point where it will look just like them from face to body type, or what they wish they looked like, depending on the person. Avatars will be able to emote feelings, as well. Festejo said clothes will be available for purchase, and Sony is talking to real apparel lines about bringing their own virtual stores into the game for avatars to shop in.

In addition, players will be able to upgrade their apartment to one of nine homes at launch. The demo showed a rustic Norwegian Lodge that was decorated to the hilt with cool technology and themed furniture. More homes will follow, Festejo said, adding that the first version is Home 1.0 and will constantly be evolving.

More Businesses, Tools Are Coming

Another business model that will unfold as Home evolves is the aforementioned movies, music and TV show offerings, which are expected to offer rental and purchase models. Microsoft already has most of the Hollywood studios (sans Sony, of course) offering TV shows for purchase in HD or standard definition and HD or standard movies for rental. Sony is expected to follow suit, and Sony Online Entertainment has been building the technology to bring this aspect of Home to life.

Sony has also sent out Home Developer Kits for partners to build assets and lobbies, this means both traditional game developers and mainstream brands will become part of the Home world over time, Festijo added.

The newly renovated version shows that Sony seems to be taking the time to get the virtual world right. Currently more than 10,000 beta users are exploring Home and the floodgates will open up to everyone with a PS3 this spring.

"Home will offer the chance for gamers to get together with old friends and make new ones," said Festejo, who added that players will be able to text or talk to one another, as well as share assets. "It will offer endless entertainment, including gaming. We've certainly raised the bar with what people have seen in virtual worlds to date."

To get Vegas fans salivating, we've parsed out some of the juicier details from the print article. Stay tuned to GamePro.com for first Vegas 2 screens, video, and hands-on impressions! Then pick up the March issue for the full details, plus dozens of massive HD screenshots!

Oh, and one more detail: Vegas 2 is expected to ship this March on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC...all on the same day. Not bad, eh?

Vegas 2 gameplay additions

- A new Sprint button. Vegas 2 is a slower, more tactical game than its peers, but the new Sprint button (handily placed on the left bumper) makes the game feel slightly quicker than before. You can only sprint for several seconds...but that's often enough to escape a grenade's explosive radius.

- Bullet penetration. High-powered rounds can now penetrate walls and doors, meaning that where you take cover is a vital decision. Protip: don't hide behind wood!

- Destructible cover. Bullets and explosives can gouge chunks out of certain barriers and walls, rendering them unsafe or outright unusable.

- 11 new weapons. In addition to the weapons returning from Rainbow Six Vegas, Vegas 2 adds 11 new weapons. Highlights include the L96 Artic Warfare sniper rifle, the AKS-74U rifle, the AUG Para SMG, and the VZ83 Skorpion (last seen in Call of Duty 4), the Mossberg 500 assault shotgun, and the FN FNC assault rifle. Another standout is the infamous SR-25 SD sniper rifle, used to devastating effect in the SOCOM games.

- Faster firing rate for all handguns, which increases the stopping power of all handguns across the board. There's also a new handgun: the Walther P99 pistol, which features a hammerless design for reduced trigger strain.

- One persistent player for online and offline play. In Vegas 2, you have one customized character that applies to all play modes, both online and offline. This means that your accomplishments in the single-player story will impact your multiplayer character, and vice-versa.

- New way to unlock weapons and gear. Rather than unlocking guns and gear in a linear fashion, by hitting certain level requirements, you can choose which guns to unlock by tailoring your play **** There are three branches - Assault, Close Quarters, and Marksmanship -- and you can combine them all or focus on one or two at a time. The advantage with Vegas 2's new "ACES" system is flexibility: if you want to unlock sniper rifles, you could choose to focus on the Marksmanship branch by nailing plenty of headshots. If you're a submachine gun guy, then focus on using flashbangs and close-range tactics.

- But XP isn't going away, either. Vegas 2 doesn't tie weapon unlocks to generic experience points, rather to specialized ACES points. But XP is here to stay: it still decides your character's online rank, armor options, and other visual customizations.

Vegas 2 single-player enhancements

- New two-player, online cooperative play. Vegas 2's upgraded co-op mode follows the full single-player campaign, and also supports drop-in, drop-out play. This means that a player can enter or exit the game at any point without affecting his partner. The online co-op campaign is identical to the single-player counterpart, cinemas and all.

- A new lead character for the single-player campaign. Logan is MIA; Bishop takes his place. A talented rookie, Bishop has been thrust into a leadership role for the first time in his career. For online co-op play, the second player controls Knight, a new character.

- Enhanced AI and better-equipped enemies. Enemies can now wield ballistic shields and other specialized gear, making teamwork and pincer strategies more important. You'll also encounter "elite" terrorists who are as well-equipped as team Rainbow.

Vegas 2 multiplayer enhancements

- New multiplayer mode: Team Leader. The goal is simple: kill off the enemy leader and mop up his underlings, or safely escort your team's leader to an extraction point. The catch is that the team leader acts as a mobile respawn point for his team.

- New multiplayer mode: Total Conquest. Similar to the Domination modes found in Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. The winning team must successfully capture and hold all three satellite dishes for 30 straight seconds to win the round. The ticking time limit ensures plenty of action late in the match, as both teams scramble to lock up all three satellites.

- Much faster loading times and better graphics for online play. Ubisoft Montreal has listened to fan feedback, smoothing the presentation of Vegas 2's online mode. The results are dramatically speedier loading times, graphics that look nearly identical to those of the single-player mode, and the ability to swap teams even when the server is full.

Some tasty new rumors from the March issue of EGM.
By Sam Kennedy , 02/04/2008
The March issue of EGM should be hitting subscribers any day now, so here's a taste of the rumors Quarterman has lined up this month:

His biggest find is that Dead Rising 2 is apparently in development for multiple consoles -- but that Capcom isn't developing it. Apparently the actual coding is being handled by an LA-based developer (kind of like how developer The Collective is working on Silent Hill 5).
