Looking to buy a handheld console. Which is better the PSP or Nintendo DS?

Im leaning to the Nintendo DS, due to the larger community base it also has a larger number of games available & with the dual screen setup it has much more unique games too.

thoughts?

Feel free to add me on COD..

PSN ID : metal_basher

I have first prestige badge and around rank 42.. my tip would be not to panic when in a 1vs1 situation, sometimes it might be better to wait before attacking.. following someone before you strike can pay off.

Real Time Strategy

A prominent feature of the game is the MMO real time strategy feature. Players choose a faction and engage in combat with players from opposing sides in roughly 40 battlefields spanning North America, Russia, and Europe, contributing to their side's overall success and changing the front lines on the global map. In a game ractor interview, it was revealed that players will have a personal character, and each day the front lines of the overall war will be reset based on smaller battles that have taken place. A briefing before each match will inform the player of his or her previous actions and the current global situation, as well as the possible effects of the battle that they are about to fight. There can be hundreds of battles that last an indefinite amount of time in a single territory, with the victor being the side that was the most effective; there are plans to include game play recordings of the best players' battles. There will be multiple ways to initiate new combat on a continent that's already been captured by the enemy, some examples that were given were a "D-day" ****invasion of France, amphibious landings in southern or northern Europe, and a mass invasion of Siberia through Alaska. there will be several different types of gameplay like Attrition, Siege, and Sabotage. If one faction completely defeats the others, the developers can create a new scenario based on the previous outcome and start the war over again. Also, according to Erik Brudvig, "Ubisoft didn't rule out a little 'interference' on their part if one faction was getting a little overambitious."

De Plater hinted at the game being "streamlined" with regards to units, resource management, etc. He stated that "every time [they] cut features out, it just made the game better." For example, only 12 groups are allowed under control at once, creating a "Madden at war" ****of battle. Also, the resource system will be stripped down compared to other RTS games. Each unit costs the same amount of resources, which are gained by capturing strategic points on the battlefield. There will also be "no magic" in EndWar, meaning all new units must be transported onto the battlefield by a transport vehicle.

Voice

The game will feature optional voice commands so that the player may use a headset to give orders to his troops, although the troops will only react to valid and game-related orders in certain languages, but are able to understand many accents of those languages. Hearing enemy soldiers communicate gives the player a strategic advantage to counter their attack with one of his own.

anyone thinking of buying it

EGM have for some bizarre reason published their latest magazine with a rumour or typo that Ninja Gaiden 2 will be on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. This would be a small victory for the PS3 if it were true but it is not.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is being published by Microsoft Games Studios, this means that they will decide what happens. The last time I checked Microsoft do not want their competition to have access to their anticipated exclusives. So if the PS3 were to see another Ninja Gaiden game it would be in the vein of Ninja Gaiden Sigma, a long time after the original release. As a symbolic and graphic representation let this picture demonstrate the status of this rumour. The semi official word from Microsoft is past the break.

End of the road for PS2 support?

22 Jan 2008
Kz Hirai, president of SCE Kaz Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), has raised some interesting questions regarding his company's strategy regarding PS3 backward compatibility and the future of PS2 gaming.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Hirai said, "We want to promote games only available for PlayStation 3. The introduction of the 40-gigabyte model is in line with that strategy".

This stays very much on-message with statements made late last year by Sony Computer Entertainment (UK) managing director Ray Maguire who told SPOnG, "When we launched, we said we would focus on forward production than backwards-compatibility, but there was more of a need for backwards-compatibility six months ago. So, from here on in, there are no plans for backwards-compatibility in PlayStation products."

Before the crashing tedium of fanboy ranting begins elsewhere, let's analyse the statement:

Hirai did not say, "We only want to promote games available for PlayStation 3".

So, don't read this as "We won't promote non-exclusives". It would be insane for Sony not to co-promote non-exclusives such as Assassin's Creed or Smackdown vs Raw, which would help sell hardware.

What this re-statement of intent is more likely to mean is that days of the PlayStation 2 are well and truly numbered.

At this point, we'd like to remind you of Kaz's assertion that, "The introduction of the 40-gigabyte model is in line with that strategy.''

One of the most notable missing features of the 40GB PS3 is its lack of backwards compatibility. Doesn't it appear counter-intuitive to drop backwards compatibility and also pull support from PS2 itself?
Not if Sony plans to shift its focus with regard to PS2 games towards making them available over the PlayStation Network as legacy titles, or 'PlayStation Originals'?

That is, of course, a bit of a stretch - but it remains a possibility nonetheless. A possibility that could be supported by a recently spotted job vacancy for someone to work on PS3 backwards compatibility, in spite of the fact that Sony's most prevalent PS3 model has none.
