Cheese is Back

Yes... I am now formally announcing my return to Gamespot. It has been a year since I declared my intent to leave, for school reasons. And now I'm back. Sort of. I won't be active in the forums or unions anymore, because all that intrests me on G-spot is now just the news. So I'll be surfing the net and gamespot for news, game related and otherwise, and I will write editorials and opinions on them every so often. I hope you enjoy them. I wonder how many of my friends are still active here...

SBXLI and my thoughts on the Console Wars

Bears Vs. Colts: Who will win? I personally hope the Colts win. If they do, it won't be by much. This will definately be a very close Superbowl. In my opinion, at least. I really wanted the Saints to win, but who really expected that anyway? I mean, c'mon, it's the Saints! Getting to the playoffs was commendable, though. Superbowl XLI better be a good game, because it'll be the last major sport I watch till the Baseball Preseason starts. Unless I decide to watch... soccer! Scary thought. Since Beckham is in America now, could that put him on Team USA? If so, we might actually win a game... one game. maybe. Now for the Opinions that will really cause a riot.... my console wars opinions! Review: Xbox 360- A good, stable console, with middle-of-the-isle price. Several good games, more coming, and with the 1 year headstart, it already has a big market advantage. Plus Xbox Live is certainly one of the best things to ever happen to gaming, and MS certainly does it right. In HighDef it is absolutely beautiful. However, weak launce titles, small HDD and other slight issues bring its score down. 4/5 from me. Nintendo Wii- Probably the most fun console. Really cheap (at least compared to its competitors). It has several great games within only months of launch... Zelda, WarioWare, Elebits, and only way more to come, like Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime: Corruption. Don't even get me started on the control scheme... absolutely ingenious idea, and in most games used really well. And it is really small and lightweight. the only problem is its online still has to go through its trials and the graphics aren't that great. But that won't change its score for me, because I don't buy a console because of how pretty the games look. I want gameplay value, dangit! 5/5! Playstation 3- It has potential. I can't deny that it is the most powerful system available, and that it does look awfully pretty. However, you can't get the most you want out of it unless you have an HDTV, which unfortunately... most people do not have. Also, I'm not really interested in any of the games it offers. Most of them are franchise games or ports from other systems. With one exception, the rest are... well, crap. The exception is Resistance. and the other good games like Lair that will come out. But that is the key, "will come out." Which could be awhile away. And Sony's online service suffers from a severe lack of originality... So for now, at least, I can't give the over-hyped PS3 a good score. sorry fanboys, but I was just too dissapointed. 2/5. And the winner is: WII!!!! Hooray, Nintendo, from last to first after only one console... at least in my heart. With its massive early sales figures and excellent launch titles, not to mention being the most fun toy I have ever owned, I believe that Wii is the winner. But I don't believe we can really decide on the winner of the console wars yet. Probably not for years, once the 7th generation of consoles cycles out and we have the PS4 and whatever else in our sights, then maybe we can decide a winner. Once we have actual sales figures. We'll just have to see. Maybe Sony will even come up with an orignal name for their next console... in 2011/2012 or whenever it comes... -The LoC himself, Pierce

Goodbye, Gamespot... I shall miss you

Yes, this is my farewell blog post... I just don't have time for Gamespot any more. I barely have enough time for games. High School has hit me hard, and my grades must take a higher priority than GS. This leave isn't completely pernament... i might come back once ina while to check out info on some games, or possibly come back during school holidays and summer break... but i'm afraid i will never be as active as i have been. Thank you, Gamespot, and all of my friends i've made... -The Lord of Cheese himself, Pierce

9/11: Five Years Later

9/11. The worst attack on America. Ever. The worst attack on America ever even concieved. A day that changed the world. That is not an opinion, that is a fact. The World is a very different world than the one that existed on September 10, 2001. Almost 3000 deaths almost simultaneously... not in an accident, but in a deliberate attack... how can that not be a terrible thing? What followed that terrible day is one of the most controversial subjects ever. Iraq: uneccesary or a vital part of the war on terror? Would America be better if the democrats were in charge? Would the world be better off? Everyone agrees on this though. It doesn't matter if you are Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, American or from another country, Christian or Muslim... 9/11 was still a terrible day. 9/11 was still a day that innocent people were killed. It was a day that people died, for no reason. On 9/11 every single American lost something. Some lost more than others. Some lost their lives. All victims are remembered as heroes. America will always remember those who gave their lives for their country. When something terrible like 9/11 happens, you can't move on. It's impossible. It won't go away. It won't be a problem that solves itself. It is something you have to live with. Because even if you could have prevented it before, you can't go back and change it now. It happened. You can't stop that. You can only remember, and respect. This is not my opinion. This is fact. The world has changed. No one is safe. What 9/11 proves is that the ocean that separates America from the troubles overseas, the ocean that kept us safe in almost all our previous wars, can't keep us safe anymore. we are not immune. We have been attacked. And we will likely be attacked again, if we don't learn from our previous mistakes. -Pierce (loc) 9/11/06

Hurricane Katrina: One Year Later

One year ago today, Hurricane Katrina made landfall a few miles to the North-East of New Orleans. What followed was the worst natural disaster in the Modern History of the United States. Leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, it was the worst disaster to ever hit the region. Even as far north from the coast where i live, in central Mississippi, the storm was certainly felt, taking out power for 5 days and as much as 2 weeks in some areas of where i live. It still had Catagory 2 wind speeds, even though it was hundreds of miles inland. But i cannot complain, because i still have a home. Some people lost everything, and they are still far from recovery. The entire coast was decimated, and there is still debris that needs to be cleaned up. The economies of coastal towns are failing, and entire towns have already fallen apart due to lack of money. I'm sure everyone saw the damage on TV, but it is nothing compared to the actual sight of the damage. If you are able, i urge you to go to either the Gulf Coast of Mississippi or to New Orleans, because it isn't much different than it was after the storm.

Texas Hold 'Em! and some News...

very good game. and i got it for free. I think it is still free until tommorow afternoon or something so if you have a 360 be sure to get it! Also my Xbox Live Gold ran out. i'm not sure if i'll renew it... i have a lot of school work recently and i might not have enough time to play online. I have also noticed blog posts can be tagged and i can put this post into a catagory. now what does this go under... i guess news. it is news. sort of. To make it news, this is what is happening in the world today, totally un-opinionated: Pluto is no longer a planet! a delegation of scientists decided that today. I'm just curious though, who gave these all-powerful scientists to decide which heavenly bodies are planets and which are not? they should take it up with the guy who created said heavenly bodies. I bet he'd like a say. that's all i can think of... Pierce (LOC) P.S.: if you didn't catch on, i was refering to God as the guy who created everything. i had to say this, because when i re-read this it sounded kind-of stupid without explanation. i bet someone would have caught on though...

Ker-Pow! Level 20! Metal Slime!

Owww! finally level 20. Took me forever since i can't be on gamespot as much anymore. mucked down in schoolwork. but i'm free on the weekend! and level 20 is an accomplishment if you ask me. it is one of those things i wanted to do before my first anniversiary (spl?) of joining gamespot (which was on October 21, 2005). Also on that list was: 1. 1000 posts (which is alot to me, since i don't use GS for the forums) which i have accomplished... 2. 50 friends... which i have also accomplished... 3. leading a good union. which i don't think i have accomplished. I have not yet even founded my own union (and there seems to be some glitch keeping me from doing that, i got the four charters and it still didn't establish...) The EaW union is doing alright, but i didn't found it... nor is it active at all anymore. i have maybe one active recruit and two active officers. i can't post there, because i'd mostly just be talking to myself! Oh well. back to the list of things to do... 4. having 5 emblems (other than the membership emblem) not accomplished... And, last but not least... 5. Owning a next-gen system. accomplished... and depending on the wii's release date (possibly as early as october) i could have 2... So i've done all but one. That might not get done anyways. cya later guys, Pierce (LOC)

First day of school, new emblem

Today was my first day of High School. it's great! especially since at my school there is almost no such thing as hazing... it rarely ever happens. or at least we don't hear about. I have also obtained the PC afficianado emblem (since i finally decided to update my collection yesterday) and lost my "Tagger Flirt" emblem. i wonder why... probably because i got bored of tagging every news thing i saw and just stopped all together. I also don't think i ever reported gaining the popular emblem...
