Accordinging to Gamespot's scoring system, these are the top 10 Gamecube games. I more or less agree with this list.

Metriod Prime 9.7
Resident Evil 4 9.6
Eternal Darkness 9.4
Rouge Squadron II 9.4
The Wind Waker 9.3
Paper Mario 9.2
Pikmin 2 9.2
Viewtiful Joe 9.2
Freedom Fighters 9.2
Tony Hawk 4 9.2

6 of these 10 games are exclusive to the Gamecube.

2 of the multiplatform titles were developed for Gamecube first.

Only 5 out of these 10 games were published by Nintendo.

Nintendo needs a serious slap in the face for their ignorance towards third party developers. The rumored hardware made GC hardware emulation through software unecessary as the hardware is just extensions or possibly just overclocks which in turn were made possible by chip manufacturing processes. There is potential in the Wii, not as much as I'd honestly like, but at least the system presents some new ideas that help it sell well. If want my honest opinion about how powerful I think the Wii should have been, I'd say roughly half as graphically powerful as the 360 (about an ATi Radeon X800), about 256 MB of RAM and the CPU about twice as powerful as the one in there now, maybe an actual PowerPC G4 or G5 processor with a G3 co-processor to run GC games as well, or just the G4 or G5 by itself, as I'd think they'd be fine running GC software without extensive software emulation. I'm pretty sure Nintendo could have created a console that's easily alot more powerful without any net loss on making and selling the system or I'm sure they could've also gone a less expensive route yet still maintained a smaller margin of profit, making it about $200 to produce the console, instead of the reported $140 per system. Sure it's less profit, but Nintendo still would be making money for selling a Wii and still making the loads of cash they already have with VC downloads and games they've sold and will sell in the future on the system.

I'm fine with what the Wii is now, as it's untapped on the hardware side, even if the "theoretical potential" isn't all that high compared to other new consoles, yet still a major step forward of the Gamecube's abilities, which are quite good and in some cases on par with the Xbox.TacticalElefant

I absolutely agree with you. Thank you for taking the time to post this. You've obviously done alot of reserch and know what your talking about. In the future, through software solutions and graphical art innovations I think the Wii will very much be able to hold its own graphically against the other two systems.

The fact that this game was released years after the Sega Dreamcasts early exit and sold but yet has failed to be published on the Gamecube speaks volumes. I guess it might come out on the Wii, who knows.sumo1973

Exactly. It's ridiculous. It all adds up to American retailers don't have any shelf space for Gamecube games anymore, yet I think with the launch of the Wii, the Gamecube market is now healthier than it's ever been since the end of 2005. Get rid of some shelf space for PS2 games and throw some Gamecube games up there.

Don't be friends with fanboys. C'mon, you can do better than that. Write 'em off like you would a PS3.

I'd say it will be the next handheld. It seems like every four years or so a new one is announced and I believe it has been about four years since the DS was first announced.

ThePlothole

'Could be I suppose. I wouldn't put money on it though.

Announcing development on a new handheld would make sense actually. After 2009, the DS will basically be finished.

As far as I understand, Nintendo owns the name "Eternal Darkness". They could get another developer to create a game in that series, I suppose. Considering how badly Eternal Darkness sold though, I doubt we'll see Nintendo sink anymore money into the franchise. I think Eternal Darkness has become the Gamecube's Kid Icarus.

Resident Evil 4

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Metroid Prime

and many more, but those are the top three for me.

ainge

Absolutely. There are more than three Gamecube games I'll still be playing in 10 years, but the three games listed above I'll be playing 30 years from now.

Metriod Prime is the series that shines on Gamecube. Zelda is great, but it's most innovative days as a series where on the N64. Same with Mario, but I would say Mario owned the NES era.

Metriod Prime is the greatest exclusive Gamecube game the system has to offer.
