@Vaishakhk @BudoDan

but if my keyboard's keys were all over random places on the keyboard, then being able to change their function wouldn't fix the problem that they're still poorly laid out and in most cases unreachable when I need to press them.

@Buck_Swaggler Try playing a fighting game on a touchscreen and accurately "replicating" those motions using touch. It just doesn't work without moving parts. it's why mobile gaming is terrible and why this is a bad idea.

And I don't even play fighting games. But I sure as hell wouldn't want to try and use this to play a platformer (especially not Super Meat Boy.)

I recall a mouse that rumbled long ago... it didn't catch on though.

Unless this replaces the Xbox360 controller as the "standard" controller for PC and games don't properly support the Xbox 360 controller anymore.

At the very least, even if the controller still controlled the games, having the "generic PC pad" button prompts refer to "button 1" or "button 3" instead of the button's actual labelling is annoying as hell.

Actually I find those red/blue laptop nubs to be really precise... I much prefer them to trackpads, so long as the rubber doesn't catch on the laptop keyboard's keys and make it go all wonky.

I get the feeling I'd have preferred them to trackpads in this case as well.

Exactly why I reacted so adversely to this when I first saw it. There's no amount of haptic feedback (rumble) in the world that will make it as precise and comfortable as real, physical buttons/controls. And having to look at the controller to see/use the touchscreen buttons in the middle defeats the purpose of a controller.

It'll work on any computer that Steam runs on. Assumedly it could be used for non-Steam games as well.

@djwood84

At least the PS1 button layout, despite the shape-based button labels, copied the SNES and felt natural to anyone who was used to the SNES... This completely changes where the buttons are for the worse and in many cases is channging what your thumbs/fingers are doing from what they're used to doing to something else. (My pinky isn't used to pressing buttons, and neither is my left thumb!)

And I fear this 'huge leap' may be off a cliff, but we'll see.

@JediLegacy

My problem with it is the same problem I have with the 360 controller but in reverse. The 360 controller sucks at sim, 4x strategy, RTS, FPS, but this controller, while possibly doing those genres well, looks like it'll suck at everything else.

I don't see why they didn't make the trackpads a little smaller and add a D-pad + properly placed face buttons to it to give it a more well-rounded advantage.
