Merry Christmas to All

Yeah, I know I'm gonna get a little sappy but here's wishing all my friends at TV.com a Merry Christmas (or Hannukah as the case may be). I hope none of you get lumps of coal in your stockings and enjoy those fruitcakes your Aunt Mary sent you. Life is what you make of it and I hope you all make the best lives humanly possible for yourselves. Take care and I'll see you around sometime after the Yule. I hope.

Bourbon Street Beat

Picked up the editorship for Bourbon Street Beat, a 77 Sunset Strip clone that aired on ABC during the 1959-60 TV season and starred Andrew Duggan, Richard Long, and future Green Hornet himself, Van Williams. Despite the show lasting only one season, a couple of its characters would live on in other shows. Long's character (Rex Randolph) found his way to 77 Sunset Strip while Williams (Kenny Madison) ended up on Surfside 6 before donning the Green Hornet mask. I think episodes of the show aired recently on the American Life Network so this means that plenty of bootleggers will have it for sale. To be a great editor sometimes one has to depend on them for copies of episodes. That's all for now.

Nothing Wrong With My Memory

Tonight, I received my DVD of Banyon that I mentioned a few blogs ago. As stated previously, it contained the original pilot of the series plus one regular episode entitled The Murder Game. Anyway, I watched the regular episode tonight and about halfway through one scene brought everything back to me. I'd watched this episode when the show originally aired in 1972. Kinda spoiled the ending but it's good to know that my memory is as sharp as it ever was. :)

Never Trust a Man Who Wears Wing Tip Shoes

My brand new pair of Wing Tip shoes that I ordered from Amazon arrived this afternoon. Can't wait to show them to my Uncle George. One of his favorite sayings is that you should never trust a man who wears wing tip shoes. Anyone else ever hear that one?

Banyon

I finally found the pilot plus one episode for another one of my guides--Banyon, a private eye drama starring Robert Forster and Richard Jaeckel that aired on NBC in 1972. Unfortunately, the show lasted only 16 episodes as NBC was notorious in those days for giving quick hooks and not allowing new shows to develop an audience. (sound familiar?) But fortunately, I myself used to watch the show on regular basis on Friday nights at 10:00. I think I started watching the show because Richard Jaeckel was on it. The Dirty Dozen was one of my favorite movies as a young pi$$ant and Jaeckel and John Cassavetes were my two favorite actors from that movie. I wish I could find the entire series but so far no luck. It was produced by QM Productions and I think most of the shows produced by them are in a legal tangle. Even the bootleggers can't get copies.

Mac Ale Reaches Level 50

Just realized that my man, Mac Ale, has reached the hallowed Level 50. Go over to his blog and congratulate him or you will be sent a shrunken head--your own.

Boston Blackie

In my continuing quest to become a great editor at TV.com and provide service to the three people who actually care about the shows I edit, I just purchased 27 episodes of Boston Blackie off Ebay. How good was the show? I honestly can't say. I've never seen an episode of either the TV show or the series of 1940s B-movies on which the show was based. But I'll soon find out.

The Last of the Rat Pack

The final surviving member of the famed Rat Pack, Joey Bishop, has passed away at the age of 89. Bishop was residing in Newport Beach, CA and is survived by one son. Funny guy who didn't always get the credit or acclaim he deserved. RIP.

The Difference b/w Noo Yawk Yankee Fans and Bahstan Red Sawks Fans

I read something on a Cleveland Indians message board today about the difference between fans of the Noo Yawk Yankees and Bahstan Red Sawks. I'm gonna paraphrase a little (actually quite a bit) and add a few insults (oops, I meant observations) of my own.

First, the similarities. Yes, they are similar in some ways. You could say that the Yankee fan and the Red Sawks fan are brothers in that obnoxious and arrogant rich family that lives just down the road or up the hill in Anytown, USA. They each think the world revolves around their teams and none of the others. Neither of them think another team exists besides theirs and they can't understand why ESPN wastes 10 minutes of Baseball Tonight talking about the other teams in MLB when they could spend the entire hour talking about Noo Yawk and Bahstan.

Now the differences:

Yankee Fans-They're the older brother in that arrogant, obnoxious rich family. He drives a fancy car and flaunts his money all the time. Thus, he's able to attract a lot of hot chicks with dollar signs in their eyes. Sort of the way the Yanks always hit the free agent market. He's the center of the universe and the sun rises and shines on him. Won't give anyone the time of day and would poor water on a drowning man. Thinks he's entitled to everything because of past family successes.

Red Sawks Fans-They're the bratty younger brother in that arrogant, obnoxious rich family. Jealous as hell of big brother and his so-called success and scoring ability with the hot chicks. Determined to out do big brother but frequently makes a complete assclown of himself trying to do so. Stays drunk a lot and bad mouths big brother every chance he gets. But he's also a complete snob and also thinks the sun rises and shines on him. Always brags about the hot chicks he's going to score with and the successes (or championships) he's going to winbut never seems to get as many trophies as big brother.

There you have it, folks. The Noo Yawk and Bahstan fan.
