Blog II-The Asphalt Jungle

My DVDs of the short-lived 1961 series, The Asphalt Jungle, arrived on Friday. Watched two episodes today. The first, The Sniper, was pretty ordinary but the second, The Professor, was very good. The latter episode was an abridged version of the classic 1950 film on which the series was based. I must say that I thought guest stars Phillip Carey and Milton Selzer were better than counterparts Sterling Hayden and Sam Jaffe in the original movie. JMHO, of course, for all you classic movie fans who are cringing at that remark. FWIW, Joan Staley played Marilyn Monroe's role in the movie on the television version.

All Tied Up

The Tribe opened the floodgates on the Bahstan Red Sawks last night in the top of the 11th inning, winning 13-6, to even the series at one game apiece. Having already sent on half of the traveling ESPN clown circus to the showers, they only have to hold serve at home to open the floodgates among ESPN personnel. Cleveland two aces, C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona, pitched like crap in the first two games but if there's any consolation it's that Curt Schilling and the Bahstan bullpen stunk up the joint last night as well. If their beloved heroes lose, I wonder who all these Red Sawks bandwagon fans (and they've got more than the Yankees and Braves combined) will pull for in the World Series. ESPN will pull for nuclear war.

Yahoo! The Tribe Comes Through

Cleveland sent Noo Yawk to the showers and perhaps Joe Torre to the unemployment line tonight. Now they take on the other half of the ESPN circus, the Bahstan Red Sawks. The Sawks were pretty impressive in their sweep of the Angels (if you're a Bahstan fan) but others would say that the Angels simply rolled over and died. None of the teams who lost in the first round played as poorly as the Halos did and that's saying something because the Cubs and Phils both stunk it up in their respective series. If anything, a Tribe win would put every employee of ESPN on suicide watch. Here's hoping.

A Plague of Locusts....

descended upon the Yankees tonight in Cleveland and helped the Tribe to an extra inning victory. Poor George Steinbrenner. I almost feel sorry for him. NOT!!!!!!

So Long Phillies

It looks like my boys are satisfied just to be the champions of the NL East. The Rockies bombed them today 10-5 to win the first two in Philly. They don't appear to have anything in the tank so I predict the series will end in Denver. On the bright side, Cubsy has fallen a game behind Arizona and my Tribetook care of business in game one against the Noo Yawk Yankees. Gotta hope the Angels can get the split in Bahstan tomorrow against the Red Sawks to pull even in that series. An ALCS between Bahstan and Noo Yawk would be like choosing between the electric chair or the gas chamber.

The Asphalt Jungle

Found a seller who has 12 out of the 13 episodes produced of The Asphalt Jungle. It's amazing what you can find out there. So I'll be able to give more in-depth detail on another one of my guides. Don't know for sure just how good or bad the series was but I'll soon find out.

The Phillies Win.....

and the Mets choke. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. It sure didn't take Tom Glavine long. Heck, I could take the mound and do better than he did today. Sure would be nice to see the Phils take on the Cleveland Indians in the World Series. Just thinking about that potential match-up must be causing the Bahstan/Noo Yawk gang at ESPN to shudder.

The Hoarder

Approximately two blogs ago, I mentioned a notorious Hoarder here at TV.com who has over 200 guides to his credit but has only done the bare minimum on most as far as his editing duties are concerned. It just so happens that I recently purchased all 30 episodes of a show whose guide is edited by The Hoarder. So, naturally, I have been watching the episodes and making submissions to the guide in hopes of giving The Hoarder a bit of a hand. All went well for a while. That is until I passed The Hoarder in CPs (though still nowhere near enough to take the editorship of the guide away from him). This morning I made four more submissions to the guide. One was that of an actress listed twice as a guest star in an episode. Approved no problem. The other three submssions were edits of episode summaries. Big problem, One of the submissions was correcting erroneous information in an episode synopsis. On the other two I added more info to the synopses because they were only one sentence in length. Now those of you who've been here for a while can smell this particular rat a mile away. The Hoarder rejects my three submissions so that he can add them to the guide as his own. Then he games things on the guide to get more points so that whereasyesterday I was two points ahead of him now I'm 43 points behind.

I would bring this to the attention of the staff except that I don't think they'd care about anything I bring up. I'm no idol of theirs. I'll just take a vow to never again submit anything to any of The Hoarder's guides. Let him keep his 200 or so guides with little to no information so he can feel like a big man. Most of his guides are abysmal and he knows it but if it makes him feel good to have them listed on his homepage then who am I to complain? All Hail the Hoarder!

Good News

I managed to find seven more episodes of one of the shows I edit, The Roaring 20's, on iOffer and they arrived this evening. That means I'll be able to give more in-depth details and analysis regarding that particular show. I'm sure that the two people who are now tracking it are sitting at the edge of their chairs in anticipation after reading this news.

Herbert Lom

Picked up a new person guide today. It's Peter Sellers' frequent Pink Panther foil, Herbert Lom. He turns 90 on September 11, of all days. Lom also turned up frequently in horror flicks such as Phantom of the Opera, Mark of the Devil, and Asylum as well as playing Napoleon in George Cukor's 1956 version of War and Peace. Other than picking up this guide I really haven't been very active at TV.com lately. It seems as though I've reached a plateau here. Most of my show guides are as complete as I can get them for now. Forget about trying to gain the editorship of more guides. It seems as though there are a couple of hoarders who have gone out and snatched editorships of numerous shows. What they do is get just enough points to takeover the guide (usually an old show with no editor or a retired editor). Then they do nothing with the guide but sit on their asses. In other words, they have a long list of shows that looks impressive on their homepage but little of substance in the guides themselves. I'm sorry, but I ain't gonna play that way.
