I will say one thing, that I am sure will be brushed over by eager posters to quick post "GeArZ is Teh awesoemzz" or "GearZ uz a tuurd".
Crysis has indeed, ruined one aspect of gaming for me, mainly the part where graphics impress me now. For instance, I have beat Crysis on both hard and Delta settings now, and just recently loaded up CoD4 to play. While the game is pretty, the graphics just don't impress me as I think they should have. The same can be said for Uncharted: Drakes fortune as well. Just getting back from christmas at home I watched my roomate beat the whole game, and yet again while it was pretty the graphics just didn't wow me. Sure he gets wet when he gets out of the water, and explosions look pretty, but I feel that nothing is going to compare to Crysis in sheer graphics for a while (but when that game comes, I hope I can play it).
Now don't get me wrong, CoD4 is fun as hell, and I can't wait to actually play Uncharted myself (I'm a sucker for anything that resembles a Indiana Jones / Romancing the Stone story). I just feel that now I grade games on a different scale. For now I feel that nothing will graphically be superior to Crysis, so I'm starting to grade games sheerly on fun factor.
Oh, and for the TC, Gears was great a year ago when it came out. It's an arcade-y style over the shoulder shooter, and is alot of fun in co-op mode on the hardest setting. Get a friend, and play through on hardcore. It's a blast.
And lastly (yeah, I lied about the one thing) Jumping is not useless in FPS's. It adds an entire new depth to the game. Just look at TF2 where Rocket / Grenade jumps, the Scout's double jump, and the Engineer's ability to jump on top of his own buildings to get to new heights change how entire stages are played out. Another degree of freedom is nice, especially in a multiplayer game.
