I thought I would try a little experiment that hopefully would take off with people making a small decision and seeing what would be the final outcome. Every week I will add a blog post with 3 options and simply all people do is comment on which one they believe is the best in their opinion and why. I will reveal the winner of each week on the next blog so people can comment right up until the very last day.
As it is the first week of me trying this I thought I would keep it simple and topical.....
Which one of current motion sensor technology is the best?
Lets start off with the father of the three, the Nintendo Wii. The Nintendo Wii started the craze of using motion sensor technology for the current gen consoles. Motion sensor technology had been used before, such as the PlayStation Eye-toy, but the difference was the Wii used it as its main controls for the console, not as an add on. Nintendo wanted to bring in more family fun and add a third dimension(literally) on to the way people were playing games. Withboth classic Nintendo titles such as Zelda (you get to wield the sword yourself!) and Mario and newer titles such as Wii sports and the Call of Duty series, Nintendo really went all out to appeal to all audiences of gaming, from young to old and casual gamers to hardcore, the Wii does really offer every form of gaming for anybody. Recently the addition of the "Wii Plus" as an add onfor remotes gives the controllers movement an even more realistic than it had before by really tightening the X, Y and Z axis for the controller. Apart from the graphics, in most people's eyes the Wii offers the best motion technology by giving a full package of games and fun.
Next to look at is the PlayStation Move. Probably the only different between the PS Move and the Nintendo Wii is that the PS Move is an add on for the Ps3 and not the complete control system for the console. At first glance the PS Move controller is just a smooth Wii remote with extra buttons and an analog stick in place instead of a D-Pad. As the Wii remote has the additional controller, the Nunchuck, the PS Move controller has an additional controller, the Navigation Controller. The Navigation controller has less buttons and also an analog stick and a D-Pad. The PS Move works very similar to the Wii. It has motion sensor technology both through movement (using a similar sort of axis to the Wii remote) and the point and click way (using the Eye-toy). The content availablefor the PS Move is quick sparse at the moment as it has only recently come out. The biggest selling game for the Move is PlayStation Sport Champions (something very similar to Wii sports), which gets you to grips with using the Move controllers. There are other games such as FIGHT and Heavy Rain but nothing that stands out as being genius using motion technology. You've probably noticed a slight trend in that the PS Move is slightly similar to the Wii, but that's just my opinion no?
The most stand alone in touch technology today is the Microsoft Kinect. Kinect has gone one step further by using the motto "You are the controller". Kinect works in a very similar way to the Eye-toy but many times its superior. Kinect uses both sound and movement for you to use your body to move things around the screen and make things happen. Kinect is a sensor bar that sits on top (or below) your TV and lets you (literally) become the controller. Unfortunately I haven't had the first hand experience I would have liked playing Kinect to say whether or not I believe it is good. From what I have seen and the content that Kinect has, I believe it to be the most dominant on the market today.
In my opinion the PS Move is the loser in this battle. Copying from Nintendo isn't the greatest idea as Nintendo have both better games and better technology that put the PS Move face first into the ground. Kinect seems the most promising as it seems the most user friendly. Anybody can wave their arms about in front of a TV and move as they are told. As long as the Kinect has family fun games, it will keep the Xbox 360 the most enjoyable console out there. The only downfall to Kinect is the price. The price of Kinect is about the same price as the Nintendo Wii (doing my own research this is the case in most shops). Unless you already have an Xbox 360, the Wii would be the safest bet to come by.
My rant isnow over. As the title suggests, you decide who is the winner. Your opinion mattersmost in deciding who will prevail as champion of the motion technology!
